hello everyone first time poster here. I just wanted to say how much I am loving the new survivors series. I only recently stumbled across them and am on series 2 episode 1 but everything so far has been quite brilliant.
I've always had mixed feelings about the TV show as I felt that it began to run out of steam midway through the 2nd series. and of course writing Abby out was disastrous. I can't describe how I felt when I first heard the 3 main characters interact again after all this time.
truly excellent

Series 3 ran out of steam and felt a bit like they had the recommision with no story. The audios are the only time I've listened to BF on my MP3 and actually stopped dead when walking down to the sheer bleakness of what I was hearing. The only other time I've done that with anything was listenin to The Kid by Lou Reed from his Berlin album.

BF's Survivors is excellent. The comments on the early 'extras' that it was becoming a little like a 'framing show' on the television made me smile because it is so true. The audios concentrate much more on the human dilemma, how the virus has made people afraid, and what they are driven to do living with such fear. It is extremely bleak, of course, as it should be.
I also love the way each story, or set of stories, concentrates on a different group of people, giving the idea that those we knew on television and the new audio characters too, are spread over a wide area with equal measures of desolation to contend with.
I get the impression the initial success of 'Survivors' even caught Big Finish by surprise. I hope that success has continued, because the quality of the stories certainly has.

agree completely. but I have found myself wondering - and bear in mind I am only at the start of series 2 - whether it is possible for Abby or indeed the others to have a 'happy 'ending.
and yes I know how the book ended and what happened at the end of the episode the last laugh.

I have never watched the original TV series but I have making my way through the first box-set (have one story left)and I agree it's excellent. I really like the sense of urgency and the heightened drama. You feel you are right there with the characters.
Hope to get the 2nd box set soon.

Each to their own I guess but i found myself less enthralled towards the end of series 2 where as I was gripped throughout series 3

Been listening to the first box set and in every episode seems to have a omg I can't believe how dark and bleak it is moment. Very well made. Possibly 1 of my favourite things I've listened to of big finish. I honestly feel bad I only paid 12 quid for it. If I had known it was going to be this good I would have not complain paying full price for it. volume 2 and 3 have jumped to the top of my wish list for non new release wish list

Have to warn you tho', it gets bleaker, much bleaker!Cheers Tony

It gets bleaker for sure
I think series 3 is even better than Series 1. The main villain is a real nasty piece of work but is played brilliantly. A real love to hate character.
I think series 3 is one of the best things that BF have done.
I hope the Survivors range runs and runs if it keeps up this level of quality.

sounds fantastic. I'm trying to pace myself as June seems a long way off. I guess what I'm hoping for is some sort of closure particularly for Abby. just hope this series doesn't peter out (sorry ) and leave major plotlines unresolved.

I think the quality of BF Survivors has been consistently excellent, with no sign of running out of steam...of course, with such a bleak story, one does wonder just how long it can go! I would love to see it evolve and continue...one thing that was ever-present (at least I felt this way) in the original tv show (all three series) was a vague feeling of hope. The audios have been decidedly darker which has served them well--I mean, really, who wants to hear an entire audio about farming? Some of the tone of those "hopeful" tv episodes don't really work on audio...but I do feel that the hope is still there. Also, it's been so great getting more of the characters (both from the show and the audios) who we have become invested in. I really don't want to name names for fear of spoilers for first time listeners who may not have caught up yet.
Now I'm off to do some catch-up of my own--on the Dark Shadows and Dorian Gray group listens!

I bought the Complete Series box set a while back, just because Big Finish's range is so damn good and I wanted to see where it came from.
Since I bought it, I've probably listened through the whole BF series 3x, and I still haven't even taken the DVD set out of the plastic...LOL

I am almost done the last episode and I tried to hold off (because I now have a backlog of other things to listen to) but went ahead and bought series 2. I have no will power to resist Big Finish.

One thing because I don't know who the characters are from the original series I have no clue who will live or die. So far almost every death has been shocking to me.
Just when I think surely this character will play a large role in the series they die.
Well I certainly learned don't bother getting attached to anyone.

No matter how much I tell myself not to get attached, I'm always surprised and upset when a character dies. I bought and listened to Series 3 (which is my favorite so far, believe it or not) and I have now given up. I can't help myself. I will end up caring for these characters anyway.
