BTW, for those that wonder why The Mirror, Express and other UK nationals would report this, but so far the BBC have made no mention of it, well it's probably because the BBC always try to ensure that anything they report has a credible source, that the BBC have so far failed to report on this is a fairly strong hint that no credible source exists. If/when the BBC do report on this, check if they are reporting about what other people are reporting, or if they are reporting themselves, if it's the former it tends to be because despite the lack of credible source, the rumour has got to the point where they can't not report on it, but the fact they are reporting the reports rather than reporting the thing itself still screams "no credible source". There's also the possibility that the BBC don't want to report it until Barack Obama actually makes such an announcement, if he does. If there was a credible source why would the BBC or any of the majors suppress a story? If true this would be the story of our lifetime, what self respecting journalist is going to wait for an official nod on that? The only reason I can see for why the majors are failing to report this is because without a credible source no major outlet would want to.

I don't think the mere inkling of extra-terrestrial life would be enough to usher in civil collapse. Besides, journalism is hardly a field renowned for its scruples, is it? Anyhow, I should like to point out that Independence Day: Resurgence opens next month, and that promotional hoaxes are by no means unheard of.

I agree on both counts, looking through all the reports I could find on the matter I was struck on how many games, movies etc were promoting the same or similar lines, I was also struck by the number of conspiracy theorists who have predicted that year X is the year that aliens will be announced to us all (because of some kind of contract between the aliens and the US), year X of course is whatever year seems right at the time of the prediction, 2016 popped up a few times in my search, but then so did quite a few other years past and future... so... yeah.

dogs and cats living together It happens.... In fact, it happens in one of my good set of friends' houses. They get along well. Except, sometimes, the dog raids the litter box which is just as disgusting as you might have guessed before you got to the end of this sentence.

Would seem so, although, knowing how conspiracy theories normally go, it will be going to happen any day soon.

I think if Barack Obama or anyone in power were to reveal existence of alien life, it would undoubtedly cause a lot of problems. I'm not just talking as you were about if the aliens are more advanced/how they would view us but how we would react too. It would probably create mass paranoia and a lot of the world population acting irrationally towards the idea. There'd inevitably be a lot of racism towards the aliens and what would later become derogatory terms in years to come when we'd be more used to them. There'd be many questions raised in parliament too concerning immigration and how we react to alien life. Equally, though it would be a very exciting time to be alive and many of us would welcome the aliens with open arms. In my view, they would be innocent until proven guilty. I wouldn't see them as hostile unless they were hostile towards us. If they are of a decent sort they may even trade resources and knowledge with us. A major factor would probably be how we would treat them. My guess is that the Queen would be required to make a speech and greet the aliens along with Obama. Obviously they would be closely guarded with security. I imagine it would be a tense moment for many worldwide as nobody would know how the aliens would react towards the two most powerful people in the world... Hello again, I agree with many of the erudite points on this thread. Perhaps we are starting the siily season early? My only warning to protect humankind from harm. Don't let Prince Phillip, Donald Trump or Boris Johnson anywhere near. Any thoughts on who would make a good ambassador to the aliens? How about Peter Kay?

I'm more interested in why he thinks the Queen is one of the two most powerful people on Earth.

If the aliens are able to bring back the dead, and I mean as they were before they died, not rotting corpses, I'd nominate Gandhi or Nelson Mandela. Out of the living, Barack Obama is the only person I can really think of. He's risen above taking potshots at opponents even when they've blocked measures he's tried to introduce that would genuinely improve the lives of Americans. The birth certificate thing? Dealt with it and moved on.
