No your reply went ahead of mine, but I dson't like quoting people all the time as this forums quote handling is cumbersome and lacking basic features. Sorry. No, that's fine. I thought it was a timing thing actually but wanted to clarify it. I think we're kind of aligned on this anyway.

Exactly. In the real world any number of factors are at play in a work enviroment. Co-workers and upper & middle management are at the top of the list. Enjoying a job, or a role, which to an actor are generally one in the same, sometimes isn't enough. You are talking about a job, being the title character in a major production, that places huge demands on your time. Often before the sun comes up and well into the night. Unless it is night shoots where the stress factor is even larger. If you are not happy as a actor, and as the title character, with the people you work with and the circumstances that you find yourself in day in and day out, you almost have to walk away. CE was more than an actor playing The Doctor. CE was also the leader on the set and him being happy with where he was at goes a huge way to setting the tone on the set for everyone else around him. It is a big responsibility. So yeah, it is much more complicated than saying he just should have sucked it up and kept on going. That said, I'd be willing to bet Big Finish will wear him down eventually. Who nose? It may have already happened. And won't that be a melt the internet kind of day when/if that gets announced?

An observation I posted at another forum I'm on: A thought I had, and just checked... The announcement was on October 26 (10/26)? If you discount BF/unofficial/irregular companions (ie: Sara Kingdom, UNIT, Kamelion, Captain Jack, those sorts) and only count 'official' ones, Donna is the 26th regular television companion, appearing alongside the 10th Doctor. Could be I'm just reading into things too much--lord knows it wouldn't be the first time--but it does strike me as the sort of nerdy in-joke reference the BF folks would make. 1. Susan 2. Ian 3. Barbara 4. Vicki 5. Steven 6. Dodo 7. Polly 8. Ben 9. Jamie 10. Victoria 11. Zoe 12. Liz 13. Jo 14. Sarah Jane 15. Leela 16. Romana 17. Adric 18. Tegan 19. Nyssa 20. Turlough 21. Peri 22. Mel 23. Ace 24. Rose 25. Martha 26. Donna
Yes, I know I left off Grace. She had one adventure with him (without leaving Earth), and then they parted ways!

Digi, I think you look too hard I doubt anyone at BF were even aware of this coincidence. We should look for illuminati confirmation, I'm sure it's there.

Yes, I know I left off Grace. She had one adventure with him (without leaving Earth), and then they parted ways! I know he's a member of UNIT, but I think you really do need to count Harry. Unlike the other UNIT characters, Harry actually travelled in the TARDIS for a little while, and he was in every episode for a season. Plus, I don't see how you can leave out K9.

Excellent news about Tennant and Tate, my favourite Doctor/Companion pairing from New Who, this will be definite pre-order for me!
(I'm not ashamed to admit I was hoping against hope for Eccleston instead-not that I don't like Tennant, Eccleston's Doctor would just be a more exciting announcement for me...it took them a decade to persuade Tom Baker so you never know...)

While I understand that the news of the leak spread like wildfire across fandom, I'd still rather if such things weren't discussed here. They weren't discussed on the old forum and I think for many of us it's an expectation that we still have.
However, maybe we could have spoiler/rumours thread for those who do want to discuss such leaks?

If you enjoy something, you don't quit after doing so little of it. If he liked playing the Doctor, he would have continued despite any behind the scenes politics. Perhaps you would, he obviously differs from you. Example, I used to work for a major chain of stores years ago (I quit in 2003 for various reasons) and I LOVED my job, it was great. The actual doing and meeting and just experiencing of the job. And the company was bought by another company who changed upper management and pretty much made going to work hell. The job itself hadn't changed as far as my skills and enjoyment of dealing with the public but the background had and I had no way to change it (I wasn't the only one in that situation either) so I left. That job is still something I love and kinda still miss but...I see your point but it's still just YOUR point. We'll get him eventually. We'll have to agree to disagree because I really don't see Christopher Eccleston wanting to play the 9th Doctor again in any shape or form.

Can we stop talking so disparingly of fan girls? They already have a great deal of difficult in geekdom as it is and I didn't really expect such talk from here.
Doctor Who doesn't please everyone all the time, it's the nature of the beast. Some Doctors stick for people, some don't. For some people, Doctor Who is the revival (and remember: the original series is expensive to experience) Some people couldn't connect to Eleven and Twelve and that's fine, that's a place to be with a fictional TV show! (I know of plenty of fans of the original series who couldn't connect with Eleven) It doesn't invalidate their experience with the show or contributions to fandom or their enjoyment of it. Doctor Who is back for them and that's great! And it echoes the bizzare compliant in parts of fandom that the 'girls' are only watching for the pretty and somehow stayed for Calpadi.
We're trying to attract new members, guys and this is not the way to do it. I know some of this talk is just people picking up the patter of sections of fandom and there's no real malice intended, but it makes this community look VERY bad, as if we're the guy who sideyes the girl who enters a comic shop or quizzes them to prove their 'mantle' - and that's not us. Not by a long shot.

Looking forward to the audios but would've prefered the story's to be 2 hour format as the 60 minute format has hampered a few Fourth & Eighth Doctors stories in the past. I'd have thought one of the releases would've contained a classic monster but I'm glad DT & CT doing Big Finish as if there was any doubt our David wouldn't. I think it's inevitable that we're getting a two hour story for Ten at some point - the two-parters were a huge event in his era and in modern Who in general. But, I think individual stories (probably loosely connected somehow in the fashion of the era) is the best way to attract new customers who might be new to the format and for the price offered. We'll just have to wait

Its just silly to talk as if female fans are somehow different from male fans though.

I have nothing against fangirls, my posts were just pointing out that there's a lot of them out there. I certainly didn't intend any malice or general distaste. That's fair enough, but the terms fanboy and fangirl are normally used in a derogative manner, if you just want to demarcate female and male fans, probably best to say female fans and male fans.
