I'm a great believer in leaving certain things as they are. 'Just because we can doesn't necessarily mean we should,' and all that. But - and I don't think he's been mentioned or featured yet - a small part of my brain would love another appearance from our mate Meglos. Impossible, you say? Yes ... the ultimate impossibility.

- The Terileptils could be anything. The group the Fifth Doctor met were dangerous criminals on the run, so we don't know what they are really like as a people except they love art and beauty. And glittery androids. Maybe a Terileptil vs Slitheen gang war sort of story where both factions are after the same artpiece to sell it in the galactic black market?

I can't imagine there's a lack of ambition or desire to use old monsters, but Big Finish's take over the years has always been about finding a new angle and doing something fresh and original with an existing monsters, rather then just doing another sequel. I imagine there have been a lot of meetings/retreats/ about it. Also, you don't want overuse every toy in the box, either. With the Foamasi there's mobster stories. The Chameleons could be used to explore identity. Some of these races have interesting biology and/or backgrounds that I think are worth exploring. The Terileptils are unexpectedly fleshed out for monsters of the week in The Visitation. I'm really surprised that the Tereleptils haven't been used in all these years. We've had other reptilian races over the years and one wonders why they just weren't made into Tereleptils. Does Saward need to grant permission for their use? Initially I was surprised that the Usurians haven't been used, but I guess Sil already fills that role and he has appeared. I'd love to see something interesting done with the Sensorites. Maybe take the idea of the sashes of office to a higher level by creating a situation where none of the Sensorites have their identifying marks and have one voice actor do all the Sensorite voices, so the listener is in the same boat as the TARDIS team trying to solve some mystery, but not sure which Sensorite is which.

To myself many classic monsters were more of a visual attraction of the old show as a young viewer (though the Terileptils were the first old monster that i was too aware of at the time were clearly just men in a loose costume). What backstory they and many others had was more of an establishing point setting up a particular story, but not central to events. They owed more of their presence to the designers than the writers at times where they were underwritten and sometimes were well written but poorly realised.
Furthermore, Big Finish writers potentially have less freedom in constructing a new, original storyline, without upsetting the continuity buffs who are often quick to spot a discrepancy or contradiction from a few lines of exposition dialogue from decades ago. For what it's worth, newer monsters devised for the audio adventures have less chance of being accused of not fitting in or of being forced into a story. A frequent observation i have from reviewers is that good stories do not need the novelty factor of a returning (barely remembered by many?) old foe.
Established key monsters i accept are a different matter, as they are potentially as much part of the continuing narrative as the doctor and this a big selling point.
In terms of returning characters, it would be nice to see the David Banks/Earthshock era Cybermen/Cyberleader return, to give an authentic 80's vibe to a rematch between that decades Cybermen and contemporaneous doctors.
Is there any appetite for an exploration of the events on Zeta Minor/Major prior to Caves of Androzani and a pre 'Phantom of the Opera' era Sharaz Jek and chums?

The Bandrils seem to come up all the time in EU as a joke but never appear, if they do it should be like in Timelash where they are second fiddle to some kind of superior threat.

Primords from Inferno wouldn't work again, they were a great one off monster. It would be a bridge too far for me for the world not to have learned its lesson from Stahlmann.

Mandragora Helix has been done to death outside BF, also its really obvious they were meant to be the enemy for SJS S3, so sad times.

Mandragora Helix has been done to death outside BF, also its really obvious they were meant to be the enemy for SJS S3, so sad times. There’s the Mark of Mandragora comic strip storyline (1991) and the Tenth Doctor novel Beautiful Chaos (2008). Hardly done to death at all, even considering the 2004 novel The Eleventh Tiger where it isn’t stated outright to be the Mandragora Helix (its left to the reader to pick up on the clues).

Big Finish would still have to talk about the Vervoids in news announcements and the like and think of the potential social media response. I don't think the BBC would ever approve, regardless, they weren't even allowed on the cover of Doctor Who Magazine. For the record, until it was pointed out to me, I never really thought of them as anything other then a Doctor Who monster

For the record, until it was pointed out to me, I never really thought of them as anything other then a Doctor Who monster Kandyman was the subject of legal complications, yet was just in Ravenous. Being in an audio medium would help the case for the Vervoids, as long as they can hold a strong presence on audio.
