Since we do plenty on stories we like or even love, let's flip it: pick a story you're not fond of, and find something positive about it.

Delta and the BannermenIt ended On a serious note, I think Ray was a good character and could have made a great companion. About the only thing good about this story to be honest

New Series: Sleep No More. The final scene is brilliant.
Classic Series: Resurrection of the Daleks. The Doctor and Davros' scene together is well written and Tegan's departure is nicely done.

Meglos
A villain manipulating The Doctor's built up reputation is a nice idea - and uh uh, *stammers* , that's it. CAN'T DO IT. I'M SORRY, NUCLEUS.

New Series: Sleep No More. The final scene is brilliant. Agreed it was about time the Found Altered Footage concept was used in Who on TV, but it was so boring except for the last scene.

Delta and the BannermenIt ended On a serious note, I think Ray was a good character and could have made a great companion. About the only thing good about this story to be honest Eh, I'd argue that the Delta/Bill relationship was actually really kind of sweet and the slaughter of the space tourists of is a geniually chilling off-kilter moment. The American jokes are so incredibly ill-conceived, though. (Wisemiller? Really?)

They see each other at the dance and the next scene they're together Delta's saying: "If I'm going to trust you..." There's no natural progression there at all, making it a bit difficult to take the situation seriously. As for the tourists, they get blown up... Mel screams... and they're forgotten, then and there. No one mentions them again or cares. It's more of a detriment to the story really, as the complete lack of empathy about all the deaths on that bus are just dropped in favour of moving the story forward. In terms of the reasons for killing them I think it was more for shock value than any real story need. The bus was about to leave anyway, so there really was no actual need to kill them other than to prove what we already knew, 'the bad guys are nasty'. And those are just two problems with the story

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

Delta and the BannermenIt ended On a serious note, I think Ray was a good character and could have made a great companion. About the only thing good about this story to be honest Delta was filmed around the time that Bonnie Langford was leaving and there was some thought that Ray would make a good companion - I seem to remember from a DWM at the time that it actually came down to the wire between Ray and Ace with the production team. I'd love to see (or hear?) Ray come back.

I suppose in the long-term, it'd be intresting to see her journey, though.

Sleep No More is a good example - I like the idea of a found-footage Who episode, and the fact that the Doctor doesn't win for once and the threat is still out there. I think get rid of the Sandmen and come up with a more interesting monster - or a different spin on the lack of sleep thing, and it could have been a decent episode.

I'd love to see (or hear?) Ray come back. That explains a lot, thanks. Watching the first (and probably the last as far as i can remember) time round (1987) Ray seemed to be shouting out "new companion intro story" and i was genuinely disappointed that wasn't the case as the story wrapped up (she was pretty, engaging and not in the slightest shrill and 'its time for a song and dance' routine out of place). I wiped the off air VHS a year later and only bought the DVD reduced a couple of years back to complete the set. Might as well have left it in the wrapper for what its worth. Caught part of the last episode at a friends house on UK Gold 10 years ago and hurriedly switched channels before he came back in the room, it seemed so 'camp' (pun intended) as Don Henderson and crew were defeated by low fx honey bees.... But i appreciate it has its fans.

The Smugglers
William Hartnell gives a good performance and is genuinely having fun with Michael Craze and Anneke Wills, but the rest of the story is just so damn dull.

I'd say the Monk trilogy - it was super ambitious to try three very distinct stories as three parts of an alien invasion - recon, invasion and occupation - even if I don't think parts 2 & 3 were much good (for various reasons). I'd like to see something like that done again in a different context.

42--- The cuts back to Martha's family and foreshadowing are well-integrated.
Planet of the Dead--- The Flying Bus is cool.
Time of the Angels/Flesh and Stone--- It breaks the rules of Blink and makes it hard to be engaged, but it is actually pretty cool that aside.
The Rebel Flesh/The Almost People--- The twist ending and lead-in to A Good Man Goes to War is really effective.
Let's Kill Hitler--- The way the title is a total red herring and its actually about River was clever, even if the story itself is bad.
The Wedding of River Song--- The concept is pretty cool, and seeing all the mish-mashed timelines was fun. It just failed make me care about what was happening, and the resolution to the death of the Doctor was even more underwhelming than it was doomed to be.
The Doctor the Widow and the Wardrobe--- It actually starts pretty strong. Gets bad when they go through the portal.
Asylum of the Daleks--- The Dalek puppets were a neat addition.
Listen--- The execution lacked tension, and it pulled some wangy continuity stunts, but conceptually it could have been good. The Doctor's speech on fear was nice.
The Caretaker--- There's some wacky fun to be had.
Kill the Moon--- The idea that the moon is a giant egg is actually pretty cool as far as I'm concerned.
In the Forest of the Night--- Twelve having to deal with kids was funny, and the callback to Clara's outburst in Kill the Moon was good.
Dark Water/Death in Heaven--- The new Master is fun, and the breakup between the Doctor and Clara was a unique and compelling exit. Like a warped Gift of the Magi.
Last Christmas--- The Black Board scene was kinda cool.
The Magician's Apprentice/The Witch's Familiar--- I liked the slow burn early on with all the New Series reference and Clony Sarf is a really cool design. Rebuilt Skaro looks really nice.
The Girl Who Died--- The way they beat the villains is actually really funny and clever.
The Zygon Invasion/The Zygon Inversion--- The dream sequences were cool, the resolution was good, and we can all agree Capaldi killed it with that war monologue.
Sleep No More--- Cool conceptually, and even has a couple creepy parts.
Hellbent--- ... I got nothing. Every time I try to compliment it, it just turns into a complaint.
The Lie of the Land--- The introductory scenes were good, and the glib way humanity forgets the event was funny.
Twice Upon a Time--- It's half and half for me, but just stumbles too much. Seeing the new Doctor was cool.

Planet of the Dead--- The Flying Bus is cool. Flying busses are always cool... Delta and the Bannermen: didn't care much for this one overall but loved hearing the 7th doctor sing.

Plus the world building, where like Firefly it was an Anglo-Chinese culture. Exploring that future has loads of potential.
A good angle on the lack of sleep could be the long term effects. Dulling of senses, the brain overworking etc.

A few more.
Planet of Fire. The location filming looks nice I suppose.
Attack of the Cybermen. The first half with the Cybermen plotting in the sewers of London is alright, and I like Lytton's little recurring music theme.
In the Forest of the Night. Capaldi's interactions with the kids is nice.
