Honestly I did.
Isn't there supposed to be an "Urban Legend" where he screen tested for the TV Movie having spent a month solid watching Classic Who on PBS as Prep only for the BBC to say the performance was "Too American"?

I've never heard it if there was! And I've never seen you mention him - I think you're telling porkies Mark. Attention seeking of the highest order! I Didn't say it was true but with Chibnail's Wolfe connections its hardly a surprise he's in it now!

I am a little curious if anyone think general arachnophobia will affect the ratings or not. Will the Halloween spirit overcome?

How common is arachnophobia? I know one person who has it. I'm sure he would not watch an episode with spiders in it, as he pretty much avoids spider images if at all possible. Don't know how common that level of arachnophobia is, though.

As I said in the other thread, having a Sex Pistols pun in a Who TV title makes me very, very happy. We've had Bowie/Roeg in The Woman Who Fell To Earth now Rotten, Jones, Vicious et al. I hope we get some more pop culture pun titles. Also on spiders, does anyone else think one of the scariest films to ever be a PG is Arachnophobia with Jeff Daniels from 1990 or so? That film used to terrify me...and because there's no actual violence, just nature it's a PG. I'm also a bit scared to revisit it in case it doesn't hold up to my memories of being terrified. I saw this in the cinemas, I was 15/16. OMG did the audience jump a few times.. I rewatched it this year.. Definitely a few scenes don't hold up- the fake spiders really look fake now

Don't know how common that level of arachnophobia is, though. I remember being told in school it was the second most common phobia people admit to after heights (or falling more aptly) and it was around 1 in 20 people who have it. Though I suspect the percentage who can't even look at one on screen would be much, much smaller than that.

I’m going to call it - Noth is a spider monster in a sharp suit.

I suspect you’re correct about the number whose arachnophobia is so severe that they wouldn’t even be able to look at one on screen.

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

I wouldn't say I was terribly arachnophobic at the moment but my wife still tells the story of how I got her to remove a spider from the roof of our bedroom nearly 25 years ago because I couldn't bring myself to get rid of it. She got up onto a wobbly stool and slid the spider into a glass and took it outside and released it... pretty impressive when you're 8 months pregnant. I really don't mind spiders all that much any more, courtesy of three years living in the Pilbara desert which has terrors much more worrisome than spiders to take your mind off them.

That reminds me of the time I found a dead snake on our back patio when my parents weren't home, when I was a kid. I went next door to ask the neighbor if he could help me dispose of it. He wasn't home, but his wife was, and she took care of it for me, saying, "Don't tell my husband. He's deathly afraid of snakes."

How do I feel about realistic spiders on Doctor Who? I'm not sure, I think that may be a totally new experience.

My flatmate at the time nudged me at one point to tell me I had taken the sleeve of my jacket wrapped it round and round my arm and was gripping the cuff for dear life. I only knew it was a PG afterwards.

The spiders were much more convincing. Sands, as Mark Kermode always points out when his name comes up, has been in some good stuff but is never, ever the reason anything is good. Imagine how good The Killing Fields or Room With A View would have been if they'd cast the spider in his roles!

I personally know two people who've already said they're not sure they can watch this episode.

I personally know two people who've already said they're not sure they can watch this episode. Cause they have a phobia of Spiders?

According to the BBC website, Arachnids airs at 7 instead of 6:55.
