This is the first week we didn't get two next time trailers consecutively.

I’m really hoping this one will be good. I loved The Woman Who Fell to Earth, hated the other two eps, and am praying Chibnall doesn’t screw this up. This has the potential to be a good, scary episode if he doesn’t.

Well that was another winner
Spider expert was a cross between Tosh and Osgood
Chris Noth was very good as Robinson and Jodie was finally able to go full on Doctor in their interactions
Loved Bradley and Tosin in this from the quite reflections on their grief to the Action Comedy stylings of the Spider Hunt perfect.
Always like Mandip's performance, minor criticism of Yas's mum her default approach seemed to be criticism for the sake for it. The line about the Husband being right seemed more jarring then Robertson's arrogant put downs.
And possibly one of the best examples of CGI ever

Cracking stuff, that would've given me nightmares if I was a kid.

Really enjoyed that. Probably my favourite so far I think. I know it's a brand new slate but a sly mention of a blue crystal wouldn't have gone a miss

A creepy-enough [hotel]-under-siege story, buuuuuuut two things, Mr Chibnall, if I may?
1 - You have a writing team; Use them, delegate the episodes out a little, you don't need to write [or co-write in last week's case] every.single.one!
2 - It would be nice if you could actually 'deal' with your human[oid] antagonists, rather than letting them just walk into the sunset... Closure's nice.
Aside from that, 'Arachnids In The UK' was a decent enough episode... Not a favourite episode, but 'decent enough'. 'Roll on next week!

We're going to have a month straight of episodes not written by Chibnall after Tsuranga. In fairness, RTD and Moffat's first series' did frontload with their stories too. Plus, with Blackman, he may have had to help her out since she hadnt written hour long drama before this.

Hello again.
Dear Mr Chibnall, We are writing to express our disappointment that once again spiders have been portrayed as scary and menacing. Yours sincerely, The Arachnid Appreciation Society.
Oh who am I kidding? This was hilarious. The Green Death with spiders. I liked the even more dangerous potential president of the United States and Shobna Gulati as Yaz's mum.
The Doctor was less dependent on her sonic screwdriver and more using her wits. I loved her confrontations with the nasty businessman, Robinson.
Okay, this is not a deep and meaningful story but the Pertwee-esque references continue in a coal mine with nasty sludge not dealt with properly. Where's Jo Grant?
I really like the dynamic of team TARDIS. The ending where they all choose to stay with the Doctor for more adventures was ace.
The spiders were really realistic and that they were not a traditional evil monster made a welcome change.

That was alright. Graham going home was the standout scene. Oddly despite seeing her family here I still don’t feel that we know Yaz all that well.

The Robertson character aside (Mum recognised him as Mr Big off of Sex and the City, plus she knew Yaz's mum as Sunita from Coronation Street), being an unsubtle character in the vein of the unhelpful American who I was fully convince would be killed off it's a solid enough episode. Appropriately timed for Halloween given the intense arachnid vibes. Yaz got a bit more development as we saw her family, a bit like Martha's family in that no one really liked being around each other and drove the companion to go in the TARDIS. Unlike the Noble family and Sylvia towards Donna there's no concern under the snark, just being snarky because it's the only way they communicate. Exploring the Khan family dynamic a bit more has potential, like Yaz and her sister (that's a real sibling relationship there). It's a classic appears regular to others but very dysfunctional.

It was all going so well, then ten minutes in visitors arrived and that was the end of that... fortunately it's Bank Holiday here tomorrow so I should be able to slot in the Sky+ recording of Arachnids in the UK at some stage.

Another solid four-star Halloween romp. Plenty of atmosphere and tension thanks to Sallie's directing, the VFX on the spiders is unsettlingly real yet still has a sort of B-movie quality to them, and Chibnall's exposition seems down by maybe 25%.
Points for not just having the billionth 'mad scientist' or 'secret weapon' plot when it comes to the spiders: I like, ala Legendary's Monsterverse, that they are still animals, neither good or bad. They're understandably confused and trying to reconcile it with their own nature: food and home. I even like that the toxin-carcass muck doesn't create perfect super spiders: they're all diffierent sizes and strengths, and clearly it's hit a dead end with the 'Mother' being too large for her organs to support.

I enjoyed it, not as much as Rosa, but it was still some good fun. It was nice to explore Yaz a little more, and the spiders were excellently creepy (I’m an arachnophobe so there was plenty of skin-crawling!). I feel like some of the jokes/one-liners worked a little better this week, but I’m still not entirely convinced by Chibnall’s writing.
All-in-all, it was a fun romp, and IMO, it’s the first episode this series that felt like a typical Doctor Who episode - not that the other’s were bad by any means, but they just had a different feel about them.
