I hate to say it but that was awful.
Hope nobody from Nintendo sees it or the BBC might get a copyright infringement lawsuit.

Of the five, it's my least favourite thus far and I feel like a lot of people's criticisms of Ghost Monument are mine with Tsuranga. It's not bad, but it's a very Steve Thompson-type story: good concept, some good moments but very safe, predictable and vanilla. In fact, if my theory of Arachnids being a replacement could be right, it wouldn't shock me if Tsuranga was a direct casualty of Chris being spread thin.
Didn't bore me like 'Pyramid' or anger me like 'Lie' did last year, when it comes to lesser stories though. It's fine. It's fine. It's just fine. Just fine. Fine.

Hello again.
What the? Umm...P'ting! P'ting! I found that was very odd. I didn't really enjoy this one. Apart from the pregnant male lifeform which was hilarious, it really left me cold.
The P'ting was an interesting creation but not really scary. There's yet to be a decent monster. Regular cast good as always. Music atmospheric. Direction made feel a bit giddy fast and frenetic as the emergency situation dictated.
Looking forward to next week.

That said, I still like the character stuff, and I did dig the theme of belief and personal maturity in the story: the general's fears about her conditions, her brother living in her shadow, the nurse's newfound responsibilities, the pregnant man not being ready for fatherhood and the nods to Ryan's dad. I like that they're not going down the standard 'deadbeat' dad route with him and, while Ryan is hurt, he's also not going overboard in caricaturing his dad's mistakes.
Even Ryan's mum dying by something as ordinary as a heart attack I did like: there's no grand mystery or secret there, just a painful memory and sense of being powerless.

Give John Dorney- a scrap yard planet-a medical facility space craft and an addict and see what he can come up with and throw in an alien

Apparently I’m in the minority because I liked it. It’s not my favourite of this series, but it was enjoyable IMO. Though, I have to admit, this is the first episode where I’ve understood people’s complaints about exposition - there was a little too many info dumps in this episode.
Also the Pting is probably the most adorable alien on the show since the Adipose.

Back in May I said this regarding Chibnall’s first Whoniverse credit, Torchwood: Day One-
That is basically how I feel about this episode. It wasn’t dark enough to be scary, it wasn’t enough of a comedy to be funny, it wasn’t dramatic enough to be thrilling. I am genuinely nonplussed-which is possibly one of the worst reactions a piece of entertainment can provoke if I’m honest.
Whittaker acquitted herself well at least, she got some nice speeches.

Having three Companions, or whatever we're supposed to call them now, is becoming increasingly problematic as well. No one's really getting any character development and I'd include the Doctor in there as well.

An alright space adventure, I guess? (Shrugs). The death/birth juxtaposition was fairly predictable, aaaaaand the Pting looked like a CGI baby Foamasi..

Odd
Lovely scene between Ryan and Yaz and the dynamic between the siblings.
But
The pacing was all over the place.
First 10 minutes the Doctor is lectured by a Male Doctor who promptly dies, the 1st threat too cute to be taken seriously as a threat. Expectant Parent subplot couldn't decide between humorous and message, it really seemed clunky, I'm not sure the android was needed, even Bradley was barley just comic relief this week.
A disappointing drop in form.
Regards
mark687
EDIT
Score 3 because of the Ryan and Yaz scene and Jodie trying her best to carry the rest of the EP.

I Think and it was the same for Moffat you cannot run the show and write all the episodes it just doesn’t work.

THAT’S MORE LIKE IT!! Fun monster, well-defined supporting cast, dazzling score, genuine emotion, character development, wahey!!
Still a few Chibnallisms in the script and Jodie is still unconvincing, but overall I really enjoyed- the best since episode 1.

We've gotten a lot of focus on Ryan and Graham dealing with their own demons, and Yaz has been steadily getting more material. Even this episode, vanilla as it was, did more stuff with Ryan and his bond with Graham.

Surely when they are holed up travelling between episodes they could do all that revealing ....and then get on with the story.

Started quite well, but ended up being overlong and drawn out; the Doctor needs to gain some self-confidence (and is the first time he/she has identified him/herself as a scientist since... what, Pertwee? Hartnell?); and, seriously, it took them THAT LONG to decide to boot the creature out the airlock?! I didn’t even feel any humour at the pregnant HUMAN and he was human as he was quoting history when naming the child I'm pretty sure they gave the name of his species, didn't they? Not human; he was honouring Ryan and Grahame by proposing to name the child after a great hero of their culture.

Why would you do character development offscreen, and why would it be exclusive from plot? Maybe you meant something else and worded it wrong, but otherwise, that's storytelling 101 anywhere.

I just find it odd that we get these character reveals for no real reason in a corridor like it’s just inserted, here is a spot let’s add in something. It seems forced reveal ,I don’t even feel the reveal is a reaction to what’s going on ,I mean these guys do travel together in a time machine don’t they talk, they must do...it may be storytelling 101 but am not getting it.Even the episode felt like a bad technobabble Star Trek episode at times.Anyways am no wordsmith or very articulate .
