Why would you do character development offscreen, and why would it be exclusive from plot? Maybe you meant something else and worded it wrong, but otherwise, that's storytelling 101 anywhere. I just find it odd that we get these character reveals for no real reason in a corridor like it’s just inserted, here is a spot let’s add in something. It seems forced reveal ,I don’t even feel the reveal is a reaction to what’s going on ,I mean these guys do travel together in a time machine don’t they talk, they must do...it may be storytelling 101 but am not getting it.Even the episode felt like a bad technobabble Star Trek episode at times.Anyways am no wordsmith or very articulate . Thats what you get if you want to involve family and relationships.

Also the Pting is probably the most adorable alien on the show since the Adipose. Evil-Stitch.

I thought it was good. A lot better than last week's (which I found to be meh).
I don't think the exposition dumps were as bad as they have been. At the very least, they made sense in this episode and were used in the right context.

My 2nd favourite episode so far, Rosa being my favourite. Had a fast pace. Great characters. Fun monster, reminded me of something out of Gremlins or Critters.

Hello again.
I did think the P'ting was cute and reminiscent of the Adipose. However, I am not getting one for Christmas. Can you imagine, yeah I bought this really adorable alien from Pets at Home, (UK pet store chain). I got it home and it ate my house. Can I claim on my insurance?

Another good episode. The TARDIS team continue to be a joy, the guest cast were good and some interesting world building and nice character interactions. I keep saying similar things each week, but I’m finding it such a consistently good series. Not groundbreaking, but nothing bad, just good and consistent.
The Pting was a distant relative of Stitch, I think!

Found the start confusing with them looking for something and then getting blown up. Before ending up right as rain on the medical ship. Was just starting to get into it when male medic stupidly gets himself killed.
Gremlin monster looked ok but despite making it impossible to kill it didn't really feel like much of a threat. Episode seemed to be full of tropes and felt safe. Though there were some good character moments and it did make me smile a feel times. For most of the episode the Doctor appeared injured but that didn't seem to effect her in anyway. Then at one point she was worried about the Tardis been nicked but there was no follow up and guess it was there when they got teleported back.
Overall was just an average episode which feels worse as few weeks ago had Rosa which was something new and different. 4/10

Rarely do we see such a flat-line statistic for an episode rating. Right now, the ratings from 2-star to 5-star are all the same.
I wonder if there's a word for episodes that generate that sort of response. It's not "polarizing", because that would create a peak at the top and another at the bottom.

I think it's likely a summation of the rather varied reactions to Chibnall's era thus far comes to an apex: the midpoint basically confirmed, improved or lowered your view of the series thus far and how much you can take.
I imagine when more of our American and Aussie members join in, that metric may shift.

Been out today so i have only just watched it but from the brief snippets of what i saw rewiwa wise, i was expevting it to be really bad...
Not for it to be my favorite episode this season! So fun, an excellent opening ten minutes very much like the ghost monumemt, thought Jodie was much back on form after last week. The P’ting was soooo cute i loved it, loved all the side characters, even the android who was quite superfolous still was fine enough. Honestly im in a bit of a shit place right now so some propper fun doctor who without racists or trumps is *ahem* exactly what the doctor ordered.

I came away thinking that if this is an average episode of Doctor Who, the show is in pretty good shape. I take David's point from the discussion of last week's episode discussion thread that we still don't know what sets the 13th Doctor apart, and after this episode, we still don't but the episode itself, as well as the guest actors & the regular cast, are all pretty engaging. I do think there is an overarching theme of this series of looking for hope as well as people taking responsibility for their actions. Anyway, at the halfway point and I'm enjoying this series. Liking it more than loving it but still coming back next week.

Oh dear. Quite a stumble this week I thought. I try not to dwell on the negative too much so I did like the set design, Bradley continuing to be the heart of the show and Mandip really proving she's perfect companion material - bit fiesty but eager to learn and never afraid of trouble. I also like the idea of the monster being cutsey and deadly at the same time. Yeah, bit adipose but as I said in another thread, the casual audiences don't remember or care about random monsters from eps over a decade ago.
However...the CGI wasn't good, the premise was flat and again Jodie got nothing fresh to do. I liked her getting excited about anti-matter and CERN. Make her the Carl Sagain Doctor, the Brian Cox Doctor - just give her something resembling a character that isn't just a reflection of the way the public imagine The Doctor is from 10 years ago We've now had 5 Chib-eps to see what his own vision for the show is and honestly....I'm not sure what it is.
Next week though - wow. It has the potential to be something special.

I'm sorry to hear you're in a bit of a bad place just now - you'll get there in the end. I'm glad this ep got you even a little respite. If that's all it did, make one person feel better, I'm glad it exists despite my own reservations.

For me this one was perfectly average. Not a bad story, but not really a good one either. For negatives, the pacing felt off and the TARDIS team felt a little bit crowded into this particular adventure, but for positives there are quite a few good ideas here, the acting is great (Whittaker gives perhaps her best performance in the series so far and Tosin Cole is slowly warming to me). The direction wasn't bad, but it wasn't standout either, though I liked a lot of the set designs

I hate to say it but that was awful. Hope nobody from Nintendo sees it or the BBC might get a copyright infringement lawsuit. After watching that episode, I think sueing would be too good for them...
Dreadful, simply dreadful. Boring attempted 'suspense' story full of talking, rubbish squit of a (forgive my misuse of the word) "monster", truly dire 'male pregnancy' strand made survivable only because Ryan and Graham are so good.
I gave it two stars only because I loved the Doctor's scene with Yas teaching us about anti-matter, one gem of a moment in a heap of junk.
Thank goodness that was the fifth episode so we already know this season can be so much better. What a horrible waste of time, money and (acting) talent. Wake me up when we get to the Punjab.
