Where Gary maybe does have a point is that in creating a vacuum of news - which RTD and Moffat never did, they'd always throw some crumbs - it does open the way to things like set pic leaks and these headlines being given an importance they maybe don't deserve, with the BBC not controlling any of the narrative. Even saying something like Person X has been cast in a role in the upcoming series. It doesn't give anything away but keeps it in the public mind. We have a behind-the-scenes photo from South Africa when shooting started and a photo of the Judoon they released because of one of their increasingly rare pieces of public shooting, and that's it. Yeah, that's generally been the way we've had it over the years, we get some guest cast announced while filming goes on. But S11 had that bizarre "Coming soon" post-credits thing just listing all the guest stars for the year at the end of the first ep. I've literally never seen that before.

Not that I believed it for one second but given the lack of notice from any real media outlets, including the Tory-supporting, BBC-hating ones, I think we can safely put the latest "Everyone has quit! Production in Chaos!!" nonsense in the rubbish were it belongs.

In case anyone hears '10 and 13 together' rumbling around, it's for Children in Need.

I have to admit I'm baffled by how it takes them most of a year to shoot just 10 episodes (unless they take breaks between episodes for Bradley to go shoot episodes of 'The Chase') but to be shooting the same episode in August that they were in February is super impressive...

ADR is very common. You don't get everything in principal photography soundwise for a number of reasons: weather, time, equipment and tech malfunctions. Same with pickup shots.
Also, 10 episodes is nearly ten hours worth of content. Considering two hour movies take months to shoot, getting in a whole series is nothing to sniff at.

Except TV shoots a lot quicker. They can make 24 episodes of a CW superhero show in less time. Hell, they used to make 14 episodes of Doctor Who a year in less time.

And the CW has the backing of Warner Bros i.e. a whole lot more money and manpower than the BBC can throw on one show. I said it once, and I'll say it again: Quick test - watch the credits of a NuWho episode, then the credits of Discovery or LIS or Stranger Things or any American genre series. Notice any differences?
And TV drama in the UK at large, is moving towards shorter, more binge-friendly runs. It's not something you can blame on Chibbs.

Yes they can. & all those CW shows look the same, cheap & blandly directed.

I agree with stcoop though with regards to the cut down from 14 episodes. The show had steadily gained a cinematic look and feel over the years. Did any noticeable gains last year justify the significant drop in screen presence of the show?

As I said, TV drama in the UK is moving towards shorter, more binge-friendly runs. 6, 8 and at a stretch 10 is the new norm and what you're expected to pitch to companies. 13-14 hasn't been for a while now. It's not fair to pin it on Chibbs: this was likely out of his hands.

I would go so far as saying the look and feel - the music, the cinematography, the overall design - of the show was the highest point of Season 11.
