Yes, you're right - the ratings absolutely matter, but nowhere near as much as people go on about on *ahem* other places where there are 20 page threads just on the ratings for each ep. It's binary, really, are they good enough to stay on air or not? If the show is 6-7mill or up after 7 days, an easy yes. The show was renewed for two years even while getting final ratings under 5mill in Series 10 so, really, people do worry over them too much. They look at the "But Jodie's premiere got 11million and the finale only got 6.7million" and see that as a failure when actually that's a curve of "stunning - good" rather than "good - bad". That's what I found exasperating about some of the reactions to Series 11. It was almost pilloried by its own initial success. Strangely, if it hadn't achieved such extraordinary ratings for its first episode, then no-one would have been able to gloat - yes, gloat! - about how it lost a quarter of its viewers (or whatever it was), compounding for them how the show was 'dying.'
Anyway, for all the *other places*, it's such a relief to stay here in *this place!*
Oh trust me, they would've - the outrage squad would've twisted anything in a desperate bid to prove Jodie was a failure, because it wasn't about getting a good show - it was about misguided ownership because bluray collections.
Just for reference though - both His Dark Materials and War of the Worlds also suffered week to week downturns. In fact, HDM ended on a lower note than S11 - only 5.8 for the finale (less than a million more for Spyfall), and fell into the 6s by the fourth ep (with 28 days incl). Comparatively, S11 held for longer and higher, and if S12 does even a fraction less as well - it's still fine. As I said many moons ago, 5 and 6s are not the problem - it's only when they're your high points that they are, and Spyfall will clear 7 without much difficulty.

If you want to talk about genuinely bad ratings give Moffat and Gatiss a call...

It is a bit of a bugbear of mine. When I see a film with an exterior of the Eiffel Tower panning to the Champs Elyssee....I really don't need a caption with "PARIS, FRANCE". Similiarly, London. You've shown me a double decker red bus...don't need the caption. But people liked last year's Dalek special and that used the captions so...

Oh dear, this confirms that Simm regenerates into Missy. Not happy with that! That was pretty much confirmed by the “canon until it’s not” BBC novel “The Missy Chronicles” (also that Missy was responsible for Rassilon’s regeneration). I wonder if the “who is that?” name in “Masterful” is going to magically change soon to read “Sacha Dawan”? Given that the "who is that" name is a real (and fairly accomplished) young actor, I highly doubt it.

They were used quite obnoxiously in one of the Craig Bonds, I think Quantum Of Solace where they do that thing of not just having the caption but have it in massive letters that take up the whole screen.

Damn! Beat me to it - was just about to post it myself. Apparently the most viewed video he (Pip) has uploaded to date. To be fair, when they really are globetrotting these days, its worth bigging up about it. Some trivia confirmed by Clayton Hickman via twitter - they used the titles font from the classic series 11-13 fact fans. Enough to trigger flashbacks of Basil Brush and The Generation Game for older viewers.

Very funny, but it makes the same mistake as the original by not recognising the difference between the sea and the sky.

I don’t want Dawan to be Simm or whoever in a rubber mask. Iis be happy if it turned out he wasn’t the Master. I’d like it if he stopped giggling and I’d really like it if Yaz decides to go with him as his companion - if only to give Yaz something to do!

He's a lovely bloke, and really kind in his words there for everyone on the cast and crew. Really sweet what he says about Jodie. Reminds me of all the people who said Colin always made sure every extra or guest felt like they were one of the family in minutes and he went out his way to welcome them. I'm intrued by this line from Sacha "I started to uncover a much more darker, more melancholic side to The Master, which I felt hadn’t been explored before." That gets me quite excited for where he could be taking the character. I would love his boyish glee at getting to reveal his plan be contrasted with a melancholy in other moments, maybe in private. It's really exciting not knowing where things are going. Interesting too he said he really dug into researching the part wheras Jodie said she'd seen some of Tennant's stuff as they're mates (and honestly circa 2008-09 you couldn't avoid Who) but didn't want to go back and look at other Doctors in case it pulled against her instincts in how to play what was written for her on the page. With the characters often mirror versions, I like their approaches to the part are also reversed. I wonder what part he was offered in S11?

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

Can’t believe nobody has gone with a “Story Of O” headline.

I know this sort of thing rubs certain sections of fandom the wrong way, but I'd like to offer it all the same. As an American of Indian descent that grew up loving Doctor Who in the 80s, I'm genuinely sharing in that feeling with Sacha. My jaw hit the ground with the surprise revelation, but after the credits rolled, I sat back and reflected on the cultural significance of it. Seeing him as the character (and instantly credible!!) really meant a lot to me.
It's amazing to see the leaps and bounds that Doctor Who has made over the last several years. Sure, we can rightfully express opinions on scripts, performances, etc., but I truly appreciate the sentiment behind these creative choices and the willingness to consider and explore them.
He won me over right away. I've already rewatched it twice, and it's great to see new things in his performance as "O" - what seemed like it could be a little crush on the Doctor turned out to be just that, but in a way that reflected their long and strange history together. I can't wait to see what he does next and have high hopes that the series can continue this incredible momentum.

I'm shocked he didn't mention that the Doctor's bow tie was very 11 and the coat was very 12. Maybe that's just me. But my god the costume design for the tuxedos was brilliant. The very Doctor take on the tux, the very traditional tux on Ryan and Graham, and the extremely clever and in character suit for Yaz. I loved it.
