Goosebump episode, Dawson as Ahsoka is perfect casting & made it her own, good story & finally some answers to questions about who or what is baby Yoda.

I am not that familiar with Ashoka, & there may have been a lot of other elements/characters I am not fully getting but it didn't matter, that was a fantastic episode. I hope we get an Ashoka spin-off, I'd prefer that to an Obi Wan show tbh.

I actually loved all of it except Rosario Dawson. Don't get me wrong, I like her as an actress in general, I just didn't much like what she brought to the character. I found her (vocal) tones weirdly muted and non-expressive for the vast majority of her dialogue (not at all how Ahsoka speaks in the other shows, where she's voiced by Ashley Eckstein), and where she might've made up for that with good expression/emoting with her face, it seemed kind of like Dawson just didn't really know how to do that with her face underneath all the Togruta makeup.
I don't even really feel like "she's older" holds any water here. We've already seen the version of her that was post-the biggest trauma of her life, the Rebels version of her that was years after the destruction of the Order and betrayal of Anakin Skywalker. And her final appearance in Rebels was just nine years before her appearance here in The Mandalorian.
Everything else about the episode was wonderful though. Filoni's live-action apprenticing under Favreau is going very, very well.

That was phenomenal. I loved how they just gave you what you wanted to see right in the opening moments and not only made her phenomenal, but *terrifying*. I thought Dawson did an outstanding job of realizing an older version of a familiar character. Moody setting plus exciting fight scenes made for pure visual joy and my jaw hit the ground at the reference to a character from yet another series. I'd said it earlier in the thread, but this kind of storytelling is really made for us as fans of Big Finish Doctor Who.
I don't have a problem with it (at this point), but hopefully this doesn't lead to fatigue:
"I need to [FIND THING OR PERSON]." "I can help you, but first you're going to help me with this dangerous task." "Okay, someone needs to watch this adorable kid while I risk everything for whatever your cause happens to be." "Thanks for your help. You'll need to go to [LOCATION] to [FIND THING OR PERSON]." [REPEAT]
I'm still loving every second of it, though! Yeah, it is very video game / RPG like, isn’t it? It works in the shows favour, but there’s a fine line before it does get weary. It’s not set in for me yet, but I think when you as a viewer begin to notice how many times the Razor Crest is battered or Mando ends up doing side missions to get to where he needs to be, it’s probably the right time to shake things up a bit. I’ve no doubt we’ll get that as we grow towards the finale and probably back to events involving Gideon and co. I’m loving every second too. I have my quibbles and I mention them in the spirit of fairness, but the show is a complete and utter joy. I just bloody love Star Wars!

Personally I don't notice the video game/RPG elements, not being familiar with playing them. Rather than side quests to me it feels like old school tv where you'd have an adventure of the week rather than one long arc which feels perfectly in keeping with Star Wars roots in the b & w serials like Flash Gordon.

I did think that she was kind of non-expressive, until she was communing with the Child, then she got better. But yeah, Eckstein fills Ahsoka's voice with so much depth and character and I felt that was missing from Dawson's portrayal.

Oh my.......what a truly fantastic episode........the opening shots of ashoka, in the forest were awesome
And “hick’s” being in it are like crossing the two sci-fi streams.......lol
Only quibble is it’s called the Jedi.......no one is a Jedi........unless they keeping ashoka’ s return to the order a secret, but doubt it as she doesn’t refer to herself as being part of the Jedi order, when mentioning the temple
As to the name......well let’s hope it grows on me..........but he’s been baby yoda for a year, doubt I will change calling him that

He thinks she is, and was told by Bo-Katan that that's what she is. Seems reasonable enough to me.

Goosebumps throughout. 6/5 Truthfully, I think you're underselling it a bit! My jaw is still on the ground because WOW. A certain character kicks more ass in this episode than the two films he starred in, this is the version of the character who should been in those movie's. OMG jaw droppingly awesome, This is definitely the way.

Absolutely loved this episode. Hell of a lot happened in 30 minutes but it was just so well done and makes for a nice contrast for the much slower, yet equally fan pleasing previous chapter. I think The Volume is an incredible creation, but the location filming really enhanced this episode and gave it a distinct look. Again, makes for a great contrast to the last chapter.
The story has really kicked in now; can’t wait to see where it goes next. Mando’s storm to get Grogu from Gideon will feel truly earned, thanks to the build up of his crew and armoury.
Of course, the real tragedy is the loss of the Razor Crest; that cockpit is the heart of the show.

Wow, I rewatched chapter 13 before watching this, & seeing them as a double bill confirms to me that this show feels more like a natural successor to the OT. It is telling a different story about different characters within the Star Wars universe but still has that authentic Star Wars feel. Instead of a cinematic Star Wars universe I think its natural home now feels like in episodic tv where longer stories can be told. So hopefully we'll get an Ashoka spin-off.

Funny thing is, Mr Rodriguez, the Director, stepped in literally at the last minute for Favreau. Knocked it out the park. See what happens when you get someone who knows how to play well in the SW Universe. It felt so natural and organic.
So much happened in 1 of the shortest episodes, yet plot points were succintly advanced.
