www.comicbookmovie.com/this is my main comicbook movie site.. up to 20 different tv shows and movies for the SW universe 10 SW, 10 Marvel But before anyone panics, I believe the Cassian Andor and Obi-Wan ones are supposed to be limited series / 1 season apiece. Safe bet they're not the only two, so it's not like it'll be ten ongoing series, it'll be a mix of series and miniseries.

Yeah lots of news from the Disney thing today... The Mandalorian - Season 3 coming Xmas 2021 Ahsoka - Live action series starring Rosario Dawson, set in same timeframe as Mando Rangers of the New Republic - Live action series, set in same timeframe as Mando Andor - Live action series starring Diego Luna, 12 episodes Obi-Wan Kenobi - Live-action series, set 10 years after ROTS, starring Ewan McGregor and with Hayden Christensen returning as Darth Vader Bad Batch - CGI continuation/spin-off series of The Clone Wars Visions - Anime "short film" series, 12 episodes Lando - Still in early development The Acolyte - Still in development, will be tied into the High Republic publishing initiative that kicks off next month A Droid Story - Kids series AND a Rogue Squadron movie coming Xmas 2023, directed by Patty Jenkins. Disney really are going for it with all this new Star Wars content. Another season of Mando is of course no surprise nor is an Ashoka series which I guess will focus on her hunt for Thrawn. Of the others, Lando & The Acolyte interest me in fact I'd like to see more stuff like The Acolyte set centuries before the movies & with no links or baggage to the classic trilogy. An epic Game of Thrones style series set during the Knights of the Old Republic era would be awesome. The prospect of Hayden Christensen returning as Darth Vader doesn't interest me tbh, he's not a good actor & not sure what more the show itself can add to their relationship without feeling like a retcon which Star Wars isn't afraid of doing. I wonder if the Kenobi show has had to be rethought after Mando, I think it may have been too similar with a wandering samurai/gunslinger format.

There's some great stuff here. Given Ahsoka has been explicitly said to be set in the same timframe as Mando, and some are reporting those two and Rangers crossover to make an epic, I think it's set after the events of her Mando episode. I think the hunt for Thrawn will lead her series, but I don't expect it to be anything like the Rebels sequel we're expecting. I suspect that will very much be animated, though is still unannounced, which is surprising. Rangers of the New Republic seems to have been set up during season two of Mando, with Cara and the two X-Wing pilots. I'm sure it'll give us a nice insight into the galaxy under the New Republic and edging us closer to the First Order / Resistance conflict, as Mando is subtly doing this season. Really looking forward to Andor and enjoyed the sizzle real. There's a lot of potential for some Star Wars espionage thriller and I loved the concept art. I think we'll get some nice underworld stuff here. Obi-Wan Kenobi has been anticipated for a while now. I am very interested in Hayden's role and how it'll be incorporated. I suspect it's not a direct confrontation, but something akin to the flash duels from The Last Jedi / The Rise of Skywalker, or something more psychological. In the nicest possible way, there would be no logic to getting Hayden just to play Vader - it could be done better by a costumed actor and it'll presumably be James Earl Jones' voice - so I suspect the main involvement will be Clone Wars flashbacks. Bad Batch sizzle reel looked brilliant. Love the animation style and it seems that they're working for the Empire, when I initially assumed they'd be flitting on both sides. Loved the cameo of Commander Cody and also what appears to be Fennec Shand from Mando. I don't expect this to be a long running show, perhaps a season or two, but I hope they incorporate the unfinished Kashyyyk arc as a flashback, and perhaps rework the Boba Fett vs Cad Bane arc as that seems a logical inclusion and tick off that list nicely. We know Lucasfilm don't like wasting ideas and work and they have a tendency to be fan pleasing. Visions sounds like it has a lot of potential. I think I'd need more information before I can fully judge, as it could easily be Galaxy of Adventures-esque retellings, or some really interesting snippets featuring characters that probably don't have much scope for their own shows and films and some nice tidbits of information. Absolutely up for Lando. No cast confirmations yet, but I thought Donald Glover was good but underused in Solo, with the obvious potential for more from him. And it would be criminal not to get Billy Dee Williams on board. Lots of potential to use both of them and structure the stories to be the past influencing the present, older Lando telling stories and then it flashing back, etc. The Acolyte probably had the least focused, yet is also the one that will be truly standalone and therefore could be the most "out there". Glad to see The High Republic will have some television content and it's also distanced enough to not take away from the potential of that era. Not a lot of information about Droids, but I'm sure it'll be fun. I'd be all over the post-TROS adventures of R2, 3PO, BB8 & D0! Providing Rogue Squadron can nail those fighter sequences, a la Rogue One, albeit with a lot more character, then it's onto a winner. I'm hoping it'll be post-TROS and involve taking Coruscant back or something like that, potentially with Denis Lawson reprising Wedge (given his stepson Snap died in TROS he certainly has motive), but not enough information to know either way at present. There's also Taika Waititi's 2025 film, of which only the Star Wars logo was revealed. It reminded me of Monty Python's Life of Brian, which is no bad thing and hopefully indication of something fun. Sorry, a lot of waffling there, and this probably isn't the right thread for all the above, but coupled with the other Marvel, Pixar & Disney announcements I woke up to this morning I am one very happy fan and Disney+ subscriber. On the subject of The Mandalorian, I'm looking forward to watching Chapter 15 tonight!

Since this thread is being used to discuss the new Star Wars announcements, I'll throw in my thoughts.
I have never been a big fan of Star Wars movies. I enjoy most of them, but only really like two, maybe three. I am one of the fans that thinks Last Jedi is top of the list for best Star Wars movies, and that is definitely controversial. The reason is simple. I was blown away by how different it was, but I also understand this is what turned many off. Also Star Trek is just much better!
So when I say that I have never been more excited for Star Wars content in my life, I am not exaggerating in saying it. The Mandalorian is fantastic, and even though I am only a couple episodes into Season 1, I can't wait for next Christmas already. And then we have the other announced shows and movies. It's easiest for me to list each and explain my thoughts on each.
- Ahsoka. Rosario Dawson is brilliant, and giving her own show makes me want to watch The Clone Wars, which I had never really wanted to do before yesterday. - Rangers of the New Republic. Most of the importance in regards to the Star Wars universe is lost on me, but this sounds fun and if it's the same quality as The Mandalorian, sign me up. - Andor. This looks fantastic and I know nothing other than what the trailer shows. - Patty Jenkins and Taika Watiti both making a Star Wars film. Yes Please! - Obi Wan Kenobi featuring Ewan McGreggor and Hayden Christensen, sign me up. - Lando is something I really hope is lead by Donald Glover as he is one of my favourite actors right now. - Bad Batch, Visions and A Droid Story all sound like fun, but I'll need to know more/be more in the know of lore to really get excited. - The Acolyte is my most anticipated, and I don't know a reason why, I just am lol.
Star Wars might have found its home on TV.

First time I've been disappointed by an episode, not terrible but quite a way below the usual high standard. It just didn't grab me.

Loved today's episode. Not as out of this world brilliant as last week, but it was still excellent and another reminder of just how good Star Wars can be when it's allowed time to breathe both in terms of storytelling and in pace of production. For instance: a little while ago it was either Phil Szostak of the Lucas art department or Hal Hickel of the ILM VFX team (I forget which) said that they started development on concepts and effects for Mando season three before season one had aired a single episode. The lead time on development is really very long compared with the crunch of the films, and I think it really shows in the final product.

Another great episode. Really liked the action sequence on board the transport. Reminded me a lot of the train sequence from Solo, but with more combat as it’s grounded.
Chapter 6 had more of a mixed reaction compared to the other episodes, but I really liked it and I’m glad to see Bill Burr’s character return. He was a bit cartoon-y in that chapter, alongside the rest of the crew, but he’s more rounded here and his past coupled with the reception he and Mando got in the Imperial facility are rare glimpses into the Empire.
I liked the mention of Operation Cinder too, which is just one part of the Emperor’s contingency that’s been well seeded throughout canon over the past few years.
Oh, and that threat at the end; Gideon looked almost intimidated! Very interested to see where it goes actually, given that this time last season we were watching one half of a two part finale.

And with all those shows I really hope we get to see some of the characters from Rebels. Ezra is one of the few Jedi out there, lets see him!

Mandolorian season finale, MIND BLOWN, Goosebumps, my jaw has dropped.
3 yrs ago Kennedy & Johnson broke my heart with Last Jedi, today Feloni & Favreau restored both my love & passion.
This episode is truly outstanding.

That finale was very good! Made me feel like a kid again just watching the original trilogy on VHS at my aunt’s - what a great feeling to have after the year we’ve all been through. The boarding scene reminded me very much of the Vader scene at the end of Rogue One and besides the pure fan service, I really love these sorts of scenes in series where the Jedi and Sith are kept to a bare minimum - it makes them more mystical and beyond the understanding of the normal folk.
I was a bit disappointed with the technology they used to bring Luke back, though. I feel like Luke would have been more expressive in that scene and I guess the technology isn’t quite there yet to provide much of a performance. It’s a short scene and it works, but... ah, I got my Luke in The Last Jedi - I’ll let everyone else have this one!
The after credit scene was just icing on the cake for me. Jabba’s Palace is my favorite location in all of Star Wars besides Degobah and Mos Eisley, so it was beyond fun to go back to it and see just a little of what happened after RotJ. It looks like we might be seeing a lot more of it too around this time next year, so I’m definitely curious to see where that goes! As a whole, I really enjoyed this season of the Mandalorian. After The Rise of Skywalker, it’s nice to have something that can balance its fan service with a little more substance again.

Overall this was fantastic & of course as many of us who didn't like the new trilogy have said this feels more like the Star Wars we fell in love with, but also it's telling its own story. Part of me thinks it would be great if small screen Star Wars just decided to branch off into its own timeline ignoring the films, but I am sure there are many fans who enjoy both. As for the ending & the post-credits sequence, has some potentially interesting ramifications for the future of the show. Now to get deep into spoiler territory - {Spoiler} A major issue for me was the CGI used for Luke, it just looked pretty awful & pulled me out of the scene a bit. It would also have been nice if when Mando asked if he was a jedi Luke responded by saying, "yes, like my father before me". Initially I wasn't sold on the idea from some people I know of Luke turning up, as I'd like the tv shows to stay away from the Skywalker saga but it makes perfect sense, who better to train one of Yoda's kind than one who was taught by Yoda. Although will we see either Luke or Grogu again? I'd prefer not to but this may mean the end of Mando's journey? Especially given the post-credits scene. Disney confirmed a 3rd season of The Mandalorian but will it be called The Mandalorian: The Book of Boba Fett? It makes sense really, can we have 2 Mandalorian bounty hunter shows running at the same time? Mando's story seems to now have been told, apart from of course issue with the Darksaber which may be picked up in another of the numerous spin-off shows. I know that originally a Boba Fett show was planned but Disney said no so a new character was created but now its so successful it seems Boba is properly back!

{Spoiler} ...promise Grogu that they'd see each other again. Plus Disney is printing money with Baby Yoda merch, so he's not going anywhere. I hadn't considered that Season 3 and Book of Boba Fett could be one and the same (I thought it might be a miniseries while the main show focuses on the darksaber stuff and builds links to the Ahsoka series). Either way, that was a seriously badass return to Tatooine. Poor Bib!

Fantastic finale. Did a hell of a lot in what’s a long episode for the show, but not extended length in the grand scheme of things, and it didn’t feel rushed or anything like that.
I was surprised that pretty much everything from this past couple of seasons was wrapped up, but it seems like we’re pushing on with the next half of the show, which is taking back Mandalore and the events of the linked spin-offs. And it seems like we have another on the way too; I was a bit surprised about the Christmas 2021 date for Mando, as it seemed they’d get everything filmed and finished in time for a October / November release still, but presumably this Boba miniseries (a Disney+ film or 4 or so episodes do we reckon?) will lead us into Mando S3, Rangers & Ahsoka in some way.
I enjoyed the Luke stuff more than I probably would’ve if someone had written it on paper. I thought it went on a bit too long; as soon as the one X-Wing landed it seemed inevitable, but as soon as he turned up in his black cloak and green lightsaber it was certain. I am a fan of the sequel trilogy, however, so I’m happy that this scratches that itch with a portrayal that’s probably more akin to those who were disappointed, so I’m not complaining. I thought it was a nice touch to have Mark Hamill do the voice with the Rogue One tech and not, say, Sebastian Stan, as that suggests to me that they might go down an animated route for Luke, which is nice. Although, let’s be honest, we all know it was merely an extended buildup for R2’s appearance!
I got a bit teary eyed at Grogu’s departure! Whilst I’m sure he’ll make an appearance or two down the line, I think it’s a good move to get him out of the picture now. Another season and I think it’d be hard to escape his shadow. A bit like those shows that have a drastic change in their last season or two (The X-Files, The Office, etc.) and not halfway through or earlier.
I think it’s nice to have confirmation that it was cloning that Gideon and the scientist was working on. Definitely pushing us towards the First Order and Snoke / Palpatine.
In a nutshell; great stuff.
