Aren't the boxsets usually up for sale in the UK more or less after the series has finished? Odd move.

I wonder why they put the new Christmas Special in this year's set.

I wonder why they put the new Christmas Special in this year's set. I'd say it's probably to tide people over until the season ten premiere.

I wonder why they put the new Christmas Special in this year's set. Probably because it comes out after the Christmas special was aired. If you look at previous season box sets it always came out just before a Christmas special aired. This is the first season set that came out after a Xmas special having aired with the exception of the tennant specials and the 50th sets which weren't full season sets. Series 1: just before Christmas invasion Series 2: just before runaway bride Series 3: just before voyage of the dammed Series 4: just before next doctor Series 5: just before Christmas Carol Series 6: just before widow Series 7: just before time of the doctor Series 8: just before last christmas

I've just pre-ordered this and am looking forward to it already! It certainly seems to have more extras than the last few boxsets, and while it is a shame Peter Capaldi isn't doing any commentaries (and somewhat surprising, given his love for the show), I'm looking forward to hearing the ones we do have.

I wonder why they put the new Christmas Special in this year's set. If I were feeling pessimistic, I'd speculate the next 'complete season' won't finish airing until 2017, so the next season box could be the best part of 2 years away. Luckily, I'm an optimist, so that won't happen. I'll say it's because there's only 20 days between the airing of Hell Bent and Husbands.

You can currently use the discount code 10OFF30 to get 10% discount when spending £30 or more at the BBC shop and this can be used on the boxset . Cheers Tony

Glad to see there's actually a good selection of special features this time round, but there's no chance I'll order it.

They don't start filming till May this year - 4 months later than last year. We'll be lucky if Series 10 even starts in 2016 much less ends there.

Aren't the boxsets usually up for sale in the UK more or less after the series has finished? Odd move. Not really. It was too late for a Complete Series to hit the Christmas Market - December 14th was the earliest S09 could have come out. By that time you've missed a HUGE part of the Christmas revenue. So the return of the half-season releases - with Part 1 being the one the BBC promoted for Christmas gifts, makes sense. If they'd released Series 9 in early January, say, then no-ones going to be buying the half series releases. This way they can sell both.

Having ordered the standard edition bluray from the BBC Shop, I've now cancelled since they're making 2,000 steelbooks with this gorgeous artwork picked by Peter Capaldi: Attachment Deleted

Also, is that available in US?

Yes, it is Alice's - very like her best comic covers for Titan.
I don't see any US links so far. I don't think the States gets anywhere near as many steelbooks as the UK does in general.

I'm still going to find it odd listening to Derek Ritchie on a commentary. I've known him since he was at Uni and we used to go to the Glasgow Doctor Who group in the mid-90s.

Now I need to remember if UK and US share a region for blu-ray.
