Seeds was the last one i ever listened to out of the Eminence saga story but the first to be released thank goodness its a time travel show Not a fan of the Eminence, therefore has been sitting on the shelf for a while. But saw some reviews which say that Colin is great in it, and it is dark and emotional. So I downloaded it onto the ipad to check it out.
Can't be too bad if Colin is in it. I liked it - that whole Sixie/Mel trilogy is really good (and I say that as someone who was not a fan of TV Mel, to put it mildly!) BF write her properly as the super-smart computer specialist she was always supposed to be, brave and energetic. I like audio Mel very much! (And yes CB is of course excellent; in 'The Wrong Doctors' so are both of him )

Omega
Another personal 'discovery' from the first 50, the style took me by surprise and I enjoyed it very much. Like 'The Three Doctors' it's tragedy wrapped in comedy and very funny. Great script by Nev Fountain (as always and I wish we had more stories from him) with a reveal I should have seen coming but didn't (as usual) and one or two lines I don't think they'd have got past 'Cardiff' today... Now there is a coincidence - I'm currently on a first run through Omega as well (loading up the final part after lunch - no spoilers please!). Certainly agree on the more 'scripts from Nev Fountain' front but I'm not sure we are on the same wavelength when it comes to the humour in this particular one (said it before and I'll say it again - the world would be a dull old place if we all liked the same thing!). I am curious though as to how you didn't see the reveal coming...😊 I was immersed in the reality of the audio world. And slow on the uptake.

I've recently finished a marathon of the entire run of BF's Survivors, and enjoyed it on many levels. Listening to a box-set a week (roughly speaking) gave me no time to forget characters and events that had a large part to play later on, and so I picked up on things I might have missed on the first listening. It's an exceptional series too, of course, which helps! So, inspired by the mini-feature in this month's Vortex, I'm going to attempt the same thing for The Avengers: The Lost Episodes, which I haven't heard for a while. The whole 7 box-sets! When I've finished, it'll be Christmas!

I'm listening to Pier Pressure again. Yes, it is fairly glacial in terms of action and excitement, but I think I like it in a far-too-much-talking-in-every-scene kind of way.
It does have a good atmosphere, and Colin Baker is very good in it.

Put on the first episode of Daughter of the Gods to help along the Friday workday and I liked it a lot. I know it's not an original statement, but Hines really does such a wonderful job capturing the magic of Troughton's performance. Very much looking forward to these new Early Adventure releases!

„Infinite Warriors do not fill out forms.“ Seeds of War. This is good! Dark, emotional and no-nonsense. And Mel and the Doctor are well characterized. Great acting! And the Eminence is truly creepy- somehow better presented than it is in Dark Eyes. It even send a chill down my spine a couple of times. I think it was just overdone in Dark Eyes.
IMHO, this story is quite underrated.

It does have a good atmosphere, and Colin Baker is very good in it. The main criticism this story seems to get is that it is too long and too slow. Perhaps there is something to that, but I've always really enjoyed it. The cast are great, the monster is great, and that little-known actor who appears early on is a terrific surprise. I really enjoy this every time I hear it, and beggar me, I'm going to listen to it again tomorrow.

Well, it's the day after Halloween and the Toronto area's been hit by a sudden wave of cold, so I went for a brisk two hour walk, drinking a coffee and finally(!) listening to Static. Don't know how I held off on this one for so long - I listened to the first three Flip-Connie stories ages ago - but it lived up to what I'd heard about it, especially the first two parts, the spookier chillier ones before it got very Alien Monster Doctor Who.
This also caps off an October of spookier stories:
- Talons of Weng-Chiang and Jago and Litefoot 11-14 (Crispy Master! Vampires! Gothic horror!), the last two sets being for the first time! - Relistening to the ever-chilling Master. - Finishing up the Mags trilogy with Vulpana and London. - Big Finish's Frankenstein! - Dorian: the two freebies & 4.1 - And checking out the TV Comics The Haunted Planet and Master of Spiders, as well as rereading Doctor Who and the Dogs of Doom.
'Twas an October to remember!

The Sword of Orion
Hm. Well, that's a bit of a speedbump. I had actually been looking forward to this, but having heard it again I don't rate it very highly. Big Finish's website claims this is one of their best sellers and frankly I'm not entirely sure why.
This is a bland, stereotypical tale which alludes to some intriguing things like this mysterious android war, but doesn't do anything with it and instead trades on famous monsters doing the same things we've seen before. Even the cast lacks the spark Storm Warning had, and that includes Eight and Charley.
It's atmospheric, though, I'll give it that. Cybermen in a darkened derelict evokes Earthshock imagery rather favorably. I just wish what happened out there in the dark was actually interesting in some way. This is a good example of the not-so-good Nick scripts: rehashed nostalgia.
Not terrible, just ehh.

Its funny you say not his best script but I do listen to it quite a bit as you say it atmospheric and a very Doctor Who script that doesn’t tax the brain too much.Following on from Storm Warning it puts us back in familiar territory for Charley and 8 which is no bad thing in itself.

Sword of Orion is an odd one, I don't have a single specific criticism about it but I just never got that excited about it. I've heard it probably five times now and still really don't know what some people see (hear) in it, but they can't all be my favorite.
Gave another listen to The Great White Hurricane. It must say something very good for the First Doctor Adventures that this is my third listen to this story already even for as relatively recent a release as it is. Quite enjoyed it and the best part might be that maybe I'm finally adjusting better to the recasting. I had no difficulties with Claudia Grant until the very end this time when I still thought she sounded slightly squeaky. Not that I think David Bradley is ever going to replace Peter Purves in my book (and I really do need to hear more of Frazer as well) but this cast really does do an excellent job and the stories have consistently been top-notch.
I also listened to the first story from the new Dark Shadows Tony & Cassandra. Jerry Lacy and Lara Parker sounded amazing as usual and kudos to Aaron Lamont for a great story as always, but adding Dan Starkey to the cast was truly a touch of genius. I'm amazed that hadn't already occurred to me what a great addition he'd make even after Carnacki.

This 3rd story is darker yet this is a great box set so far.

Tony and Cassandra Mysteries Series 3-
this is a really strong set of stories in my opinion and definite relisten material and fits very well with the previous sets. The two leads have certainly settled into their roles.Am enjoying the Jerry and Lara so much in this that the two leads could definitely continue in detective mode for a long time to come...even if this is proposed to be the last ,am on the final episode today so I don’t know if this IS the END but I hope not

I like it more than the next few stories that follow. For one, Charley is not drugged or tortured which became a common theme. Joke aside, yes, it is very atmospheric. I also kind of enjoyed the world building and learning about the aftermath of the Cyber war. Plus, I absolutely adore the scene on the alien market. I wish we had more scenes like that. I already like markets in real life, and alien markets in sci-fi just fascinate me. And yes, it is a totally standard story, but sometimes that is exactly what you crave. I can understand why this is so popular.

To think though, that this series comes from what were almost throwaway scenes aside from the poetry of Lara opposite Jerry after the 1795 arc. What a fantastic job the Big Finish Dark Shadows producers have done of picking up on that and making the most of it.

I became so comfortable listening to their vocals Jerry’s voice which I found quite rough in the first two sets given he is older seemed to smooth out becoming more youthful don’t know if it was my imagination. But I think I enjoyed these sets of stories more an interesting if a times dark mix but it’s what makes Dark Shadows such a great range.I think also these writers aren’t the usual BF writers there’s always something new to say .Joe Lidster and the team have succeeded again.I had a relisten to THE MASTER Cd Joe wrote and can see why Dark Shadows really is up his street...the dovetailing at the end into the main range was very beautiful just don’t fiddlesticks Dark Shadows up by linking it int WHO universe
