So I've been listening to The Burning Prince by: John Dorney which apparently nobody talks about. Like this was the first story in a 2012 trilogy that I don't even think has a thread here. I've been enjoying it, very political mixed with a bunch of stock Doctor Who story types making each episode interesting. I have I liked it a lot not the best trilogy but I loved the House Building Dune reminders

Today's BF: The Harvest (yes, a bit early for the cyber listen-thru) 3DA 2.1. The Transcendence of Ephros Land of the Dead (again! I think isolation is taking effect) land of the Dead is definitely relistenable lol stop knocking it🤪

Pathfinder Legends- The Skinsaw Murders. And what did you think of it? I wish Big Finish still made these Pathfinder Legends audios - it was a great range. I love them. This a relisten to all 3 series. It was so different to BFs normal output. So much fun and 4 great lead roles/actors. I miss them.

It was such a shame they didn’t find a big enough audience. All four of the leads were simply perfect. Nice to know that others enjoyed them as much as I do.

Vanguard (Steve Jordan)
An overly cluttered mess which consists of nothing but shouting and guns firing ultimately culminating in a rushed and underwhelming conclusion.

That’s a good boxset! 😊What did you think?🤔 Let's put it this way : I didn't need to add another range to the backlog of titles I already have...but just two stories in and I'm adding another range to the backlog of titles I already have..😊

A first run through The Diary Of River Song, with (1.1) : The Boundless Sea & (1.2) : I Went To A Marvellous Party. So I might have pushed on after a brief intermission with (1.3) : Signs & (1.4) : Rulers Of The Universe. Currently on the Behind The Scenes. All in all a really fun set of stories. 😊

The Creed of the Kromon
That was much better than I expected (and given some of the comments I've read about it that wasn't difficult! ) It's not at all what I was imagining for the divergent universe stories, more like a traditional slice of 80s TV Who (and second story running I correctly guessed the writer's name partway through! There were a few deliberate call-backs and thematic similarities to an 80s classic so it was easy to guess.)
I hadn't expected the Kromon to be satirical and humorous, but they were and I especially enjoyed that part. A good, traditional Who which for some reason left me with a craving for marshminnows...

I've never known why Kromon attracts the harsh comments it has. I've always found it great fun, and the alien world and characters are well written and very well played. The backlash starts here!

Listened to Daughter of the Gods last night for the first time. I think the highest compliment I can give this story is that it’s now absolutely required listening whenever I go back to watch Season 6. They absolutely nailed it.

Yesterday: - Relistened to Classic/New 4, The Sontaran Ordeal - Relistened to Legacy of Time P1, Lies in Ruins
{Spoiler} And it annoyed me more than last time. Very talky. I'd forgotten that his companion was just an android he built, so I yet again wondered "why the hell did he build such an obnoxious twit?" I also found (and often find) River Song's lines to be a little too fan-jodrelly, if that's the right word. Oh, the Doctor is awesome in this way, and oh, he's awesome in that way. Ok, fine, I get it already.
I'd have expected he'd want a companion with at least two neurons to rub together...

Flip Flop
This is one of those releases that is more famous for the gimmick than the actual content of the story, so I had very little preconceptions going in. I started with the Black disc first, since that's what the app listed first. Alphabetical sorting, probably. It's probably a testament to how well said gimmick works that after listening, I thought, "Gee, I'm glad I listened to it in this order. That seems like the right way." I bet you if I'd gone the other way round, I'd be saying the same thing.
I thought it had a lot of very interesting ideas and it was fun puzzling out the little details of how it all fits together. One wonders how many times this flip-flop loop has repeated, as the planet swaps one bad future for another over and over and over....I also wonder if there's now a second Seven and Mel running around since they seemed insulated from the time disturbances, and the versions from both discs left at the end. Or are they in parallel worlds? I don't know.
As for the story itself, the Slithergees are an effectively loathsome bunch, and I like that the dialogue has a certain amount of humor and wit. I wonder if the Christmas setting means this was supposed to come out in December and not July, or if it was just because. Or maybe it was Christmas in July. Who knows.
Anyway, I think it's a little overshadowed by the mobius strip storytelling for a reason. It doesn't seem like the fractured narrative was an essential part of the plot the way it was in Creatures of Beauty. It's more like the flip-flop was built on top of it and not a part of it, if that makes sense. It's perfectly good, don't get me wrong, it just lacks the same elegance of construction because I get the feeling you could have told another story in this same manner with similar results. Or you could have told this same story in a different way and it would still be a solid bit of Who.
tl;dr - Good, but the interest is more the window dressing than the plot.
