Nightshade
Interesting example of not exactly faithful to source but a decent enough effort in its own right.

The Church and the Crown (Cavan Scott/Mark Wright)
So much fun. Easily one of Big Finish’s best historicals.

The Sontarans (Simon Guerrier)
Really shouldn’t work but it does. And the Sontarans are actually presented as a credible threat which makes a nice change compared to the comedic reputation the species have been unjustly labelled with over the last few years.

Oh, I think that story's fantastic. Guerrier does some excellent work highlighting the brutality of the Sontarans. It's a solid candidate for the fastest we've gone from landing to firing squad in the show's history. Slite and his hatch make for an impressive, almost Danger Man-esque collection of villains. It even has that great "Well, it was first imagined as [X], but intervening stories recontextualised that reference as [Y]" feeling you get from the classic debut stories.

I also think the scene as depicted on the cover of the piece is one of the coolest images Big Finish have ever conjured up. Best thing is, you know it would never have been possible in the Classic series.

I'm apparently on sort of an 8th Doctor kick at the moment even while wanting to get back to more 6th Doctor stories as well, so another listen for Deeptime Frontier and Companion Piece from Ravenous 3, and for Return of the Krotons. Really tempted to have a go at Dark Eyes and... I dunno maybe the Six and Jamie trilogy or a Six and Evelyn binge or something... and Trial of the Valeyard, which I nearly picked instead of the Krotons. I think it's been too long since I heard all of the above.

MR: The Defectors.
Good and bad all rolled in to one, there is a new thread for it if you want to share your thoughts. 6 out of 10.

First Action Bureau At times got a bit lost as to what was going on. But was enjoyable enough. Worth listening to for free but would have been disappointed if had paid for it.

The Havoc of Empires (Andy Lane)
Such a great story. Really hope Richard Franklin makes a return to Big Finish one of these days.

B7: Battleground.
A corker from Andrew Smith, which sees Blake and Avon teleport on to a Federation battle-training planet just as manouevres are underway. Dan Starkey plays the arrogant commander who gets more than he bargained for from the prisoners-come-cannon fodder, and the sound design is ace, especially the artillery as it reigns down.
Incoming!

I am the Master (Geoffrey Beevers)
You know, I’d honestly love to see a Fourth Doctor Adventure penned by Geoffrey Beevers.

Made another start on The Fellowship of Ink and got two hours worth in. Really enjoying it. Also Light the Flame from the War Doctor Begins, which I'm hugely impressed with.

The Poison Seas (David Bailey)
Thought I’d give this another go. Unfortunately, the voice modulation for the Sea Devils still makes them borderline incomprehensible.
