The Glass Prison for the Drive to and from work today.
Gallifrey: Insurgency at work, and with any luck the last bit of The Final Beginning and the whole of the wrath of the Ice Warriors.
If the stars align, I'd love to get a little bit of Helicon Prime in as well.

If the stars align, I'd love to get a little bit of Helicon Prime in as well. Well this was wildly optimistic. I got about 3 hours done of The Glass Prison done while driving, I've been really enjoying it so far. I was able to squeeze in the last 20 minutes or so of the Final Beginning as well. Solid stuff, but my listening of it was spread out since it was released, so I'll have to give it another go and do it in one sitting at some point. Next up is Gallifrey.

First Doctor- the Sontarans. I liked this. It was a non stop action adventure. I did not expect quite as many torture scenes, though. But the Sontarans were presented as a threat, they were not there for comedy. It also nicely presented the cultural differences between humans and Sontarans and has a spotlight on the Sontaran mind set. This reminded me a lot of how Star Trek handled the Klingons from TNG onwards. These are not mustache twirling villains but an enemy to be respected, with their own morality and code of honor.

I've got just shy of an hour and twenty minutes left of The Glass Prison, I'm going to try to get through the last of it today.
Great stuff, but I'm looking forward to the full cast stories again.

Crime of the Century
Ugh this was a slog. It’s got barest minimum of a plot and just never gets going. The scenes between the Doctor and Raine in Part 1 and the Doctor and the Minister in Part 4 were all that captured my attention.
Also why does this story take pains to set up Raine’s fencing skills, but then gives the big sword fighting set piece to Ace?! It’s Chekhov’s Gun but with the wrong character!

Today's listening is the last 15 minutes of the Wrath of the Ice Warriors, Helicon Prime, A stain of Red in the Sand and The Piltdown Men, which leaves me in a nice position to Watch Spearhead from Space this weekend.
I'll be saving the Plague Herds of Excelis for the drive home tonight.

Animal
Well at least this one had a coherent plot, even if Raine once again plays second fiddle to Ace, and Bambera livened things up a bit. Otherwise all very so-so again, as seems to norm for these Season 27 stories.

During my flight home, I finished Respond to all calls (9th Doctor) as well as a cruel and devilish War Master outing in Killing Time. Chilling. Both great releases. Now, for getting to sleep, something more relaxed and lighthearted is in order. Jago &Litefoot & Strax should do nicely. I like that one and it is one of my easy listening stables.

Earth Aid
Oh dear. These Season 27 stories weren’t half a let down. The ideas they’re starting with aren’t bad but just aren’t done very well.
This story has a great premise but neglects to explain why it exists. Oh and Raine is once again a sideshow in the season supposedly all about her.

The Tides of the Moon. I rather like this set, though at one hour a pop the first two don't have much space to fill out the explanation of the resolution... Phytoplankton so poisoned that in our time, drinking some desalinated water can drive you into a murderous psychosis? Eh?
Gravitational shifts in young Earth so rapid they cause a refugee species on the moon to revert to an earlier form? And I really didn't follow how Earth and the moon could be closer together than they should've been. Whatever a gravity shift is supposed to be, the total mass of the two objections cannot spontaneously change. WHERE the mass is might change the center of gravity, which I suppose you could expect in a more molten young Earth....though I'd think you'd have to go farther than two billion years back. And magma doesn't move all that quickly. It being science fiction, this is probably stupid griping.

Dipping into some Torchwood today. Listened to The Green Death and Sync.
The Green Death was okay, not a fan of that particular story line.
Really enjoyed Sync.
