OMG. I am amazed. David Tennant gets to do a "Resistance is useless!" in Cyberman voice (for the Necrons) and gives the Space Marine captain JOHN HURT's War Doctor voice. For a Whovian, this is absolutely amazing. I bet David had a blast doing this. Of course, he is also doing the kid's voices as well as the Jokaero (alien Orangutan). I absolutely adore audio talent with such a wide range.

Zero (Steve Lyons)
You know, it’s stories like this that make me feel sad this series never continued. I’d have loved to have seen some of the other Operatives explored such as Jet and the “permanently dour” Copper. The latter of which I’ve already cast in my head as either Tom Goodman-Hill or Michael Jayston.

Wall of Darkness (Nigel Fairs)
Dodgy American accents aside, this is a lot better than its reputation might suggest.
And at least unlike the sadly missed Tomorrow People range there’s a hint of finality to this story.
Still curious to know what the plans would have been for a potential fourth series.

The Scorchies (James Goss)
Probably my most listened to Big Finish audio next to Fever Island. It’s just so much fun and a real pick me up.

I love The Scorchies, but it's possibly the only Big Finish audio that left me wishing they'd spent more money on the production. Obviously the songs were a heap of work to produce and I'd assume the Companion Chronicles had constrained budgets, but I was left wanting more.

The Star Beast (Alan Barnes)
With news of the potential re appearance of a certain Meep, I thought I’d revisit this particular entry.
And for an adaptation I have to say it’s extremely well done. There’s only one element from the original comic strip which doesn’t translate as well to the medium of audio but aside from that it’s top notch.
And it rather goes without saying that Beep the Meep is one of the best characters the EU ever produced.

Dead Plates (David Llewellyn)
Another winner for the Torchwood Monthly Range. Personally I’m still astounded that we have yet to get a bad monthly story featuring Bilis Manger.

Just finished series 4 of The Diary of River Song, which I've been making my way through this week. It's not my favourite, but it's perhaps the perfect / quintessential of her range. Alex owns the role, they give River a crew, it's epic in scope but intimately told, got a timey wimey slant and showcases the different aspects to River; leader, archaeologist, detective and her relationship with the Doctor. I think what stops it being my favourite is Someone I Once Knew, which veers into big chunks of exposition at a few points, and the speeches by River are pastiches from what she did on screen, albeit not as good. Still, Alex & Tom absolutely sell it and it's a cracking set and been a great relisten.

Currently making my way through the first volume of ‘Master!’
And wow, I’m absolutely staggered at how good this is.

To get into the mood for Brave New World, figured I’d work through Season 27 for that late 80s Who vibe-
Thin Ice It’s nice to have a proper conclusion for the Doctor testing Ace and their relationship moving forward as a result, even if it does devolve into annoying ‘I’ll never trust him again’ melodrama. The Ice Warriors are eccentrically reinvented here, but that feels very late 80s Who

Right! About to head off for my tropical island holiday. Not sure how the internet connection will be at my destination (I booked a hotel WITHOUT free internet) so I uploaded some BF in preparation to my iPad and iPod. I am bringing along: - the last 2 War Master releases - the 9th Doctor releases which I still have not listened to - Peladon (which I also have not listen to yet) - 6th Doctor Unbound - and last but not least, the Jago and Litefoot audiobook. This should take care of some of my pile of shame backlog. And hopefully will keep me entertained for the time I am not diving in the ocean. I will report on my thoughts either when I am able to hook up to the internet, or when I am back.
