This is one of the big ones I've been waiting for. Rather bizarre to see that if you want the whole set you can also get the Philip Hinchcliffe box for an extra 15 quid. I already have a scattering of titles, including the 4th doctor box set, so I still don't have an offer that works for me on that set.

Let me have a moment of silence for my dear departed wallet...
Definitely been waiting for this sale for some time!

Oh, they got me. I thought I might get off easy on this sale, but I forgot I still need much of the Lost Stories range. x.x
I have all the Five stories but nothing else from this range. Perhaps I'll grab all the Six stories. I'm always up for Six/Peri adventures.

What are everyone's thoughts on the 1st and 2nd single releases and The First Sontarans?

What are everyone's thoughts on the 1st and 2nd single releases and The First Sontarans? Masters of Luxor: Nice "what could have been". It is a slower paced story and quite sci-fi, so if you prefer faster paced stories this may not be for you. The Dark Planet: Again, slower paced than most stories. Some nice stuff for Vicki and an interesting moral dilemma. The Rosemariners: It's an average story but excellent performances with David Warner in the guest cast. The Queen of Time: Largely a rehash of Celestial Toymaker, only with time instead of toys. Lords of the Red Planet: Definitely check this out, a well-paced six parter that does interesting things. The casting is more like the Early Adventures than the Companion Chronicles, but that makes it more interesting. The cast includes Michael Troughton (guess who he father is) and Charlies Hayes (Wendy Padbury's daughter). The First Sontarans: Nicely subverts your expectations for a monster genesis story. Each episode builds up the scope and stakes and if you haven't been spoiled, there are some excellent surprises for you to find. The Sontarans are well written, highly competent and not played for comedy. A cool thing about the Lost Stories if you get the CDs is that the booklet contains a retro cover (with the right logo, and in monochrome for First and Second Doctors) and the booklet artwork is a still of what the story would have looked like on TV. Not all releases have the artwork though, I was highly disjointedness when Lords of the Red Planet had an advert for Light at the End in place of that. Others include The First Doctor Box Set and Fourth Doctor Box Set (I can't speak for the Second Doctor Box Set). The retro covers actually began with the Lost Stories, and were later incorporated into the booklets for the other Doctor Who ranges.

The 1st Doctor boxed set if amazing, and worth every penny if only for Farewell Great Macedon. The Fourth Doctor one is excellent as well. I haven't heard very good things about the Second Doctor boxset. I haven't heard it and have no desire to because of the word of mouth on that one.

It's a great piece of drama excellently performed with a phenomenal guest star in John Dorney (he's both a great writer and actor) as Alexander the Great. The Fragile Yellow Arc of Fragrance is an interesting half hour story, that paints a picture of an alien society better than many other stories, which often end up having people use decidedly Earth-based terminology and phrases as well as having remarkably similar social structure.

I've heard second doctor boxset described as being like a story from a UK comedy from the period called The Two Ronnies, only set in space. I've bought it anyway and will try to listen to it with those sociological earpieces on that I've talked about before. I'm not necessarily expecting it to be good, but it could still be interesting.

It's very much a product of its time. As a story it's ok, but listening with today's values it's as uncomfortable as (say) watching Benny Hill or Fawlty Towers (or any 1970's politically incorrect programme). I still like them, but they are stereotypical and cringe-worthy in places. Cheers Tony

I love the first Doctor Boxset. Farewell Great Macedon is a masterpiece.
As for 2nd Doctor I recommend Lords of the Red Planet over the 2nd Doctor Box Set. It's an excellent origin story for the Ice Warriors.
Recommended both in the general board but repeating it here just in case.

I've never seen Benny Hill but the 2nd Doctor Boxset was way more cringe-worthy for me than anything in Fawlty Towers.

Brings back fond memories as I bought the whole bundle on sale probably about this same time last year.
Some stories that probably won't make my favorites list (and one that my head-canon cannot embrace without revision) but nothing I regret buying.
At sale price, the 2nd Doctor box set seemed worth it to me for the Jean Marsh story if nothing else.

I have a fairly limited budget at the moment for B.F audios (and I'm also waiting for the Wednesday sale), I'm probably going to get the 1st Doctor box set as I've heard great things and it's a bargain at that price, I'm considering getting the first series bundle as well...I've yet to see more than a few clips of Colin's Doctor on TV, but I've heard around a dozen of his audios (mostly early Evelyn ones)...would I enjoy/be able to follow Series 1 of the Lost Stories? Are they all 4X25 minute format like the Main Range?
Any particularly recommended stand alone stories in the 2nd-4th series? (I haven't seen much of the 5th or 7th Doctors either, I've mostly just follow the 8th and War Doctors on audio so far (for budgetary reasons, but I've dipped in and out of the other doctors on the frequent sales, and I'll probably be following River and 10 in the future)

Thin Ice-Earth Aid (mixed reviews on those in general but I'm a 7th Doc Ace fan)
The Rosemariners ( a near full-cast sounding 2nd Doctor)
Series 1 and the 6th Doc ones in Season3 were meant for Season 23 in the 80s there 2 50 minutes EPs per story (more hits then misses IMO)

Lord of The Red Planet The Masters Of Luxor The First Sontaran The First Sontaran is pretty good at that price I recommend but Lords of the Red Planet is one of the best lost stories. Definitely get that one. I personally found Luxor forgettable.
