There will definitely be stories after these three. I'm sure of it. David Tennant will be desperate for a volume 2, even if Catherine Tate was unable to do a second one. Big Finish just haven't confirmed anything yet. Also: the fact that 10 is in their license-expanded-to-2025 picture suggests they are fairly confident he'll stick around. Oh yeah I wasn't doubting that Tennant will do more, he's just very very busy! He'll no doubt find time in his schedule though.

Where and when did he say that? Not that I don't believe you (if anything that's fantastic news) I'm just curious is all. I think Eccleston did a interview shortly after it was announced he was leaving, in which he talked briefly about how some of the old doctors had reprised the role for radio serials, from memory (someone posted the interview on GB ages ago but I can't remember the precise details) he didn't really confirm interest per se, but just commented in an offhand sort of way on how much easier/freeing the format was without the long hours etc. That was a decade ago though, his viewpoint would have naturally changed to some degree. Interesting. So he's at least aware of Big Finish and how less stressful the work would be. That's promising.

Hm. I think a good impersonator would be good for something like a Subscriber Short Trip where it's not even meant to be an actor from the show's history. But more than anything I'd rather have Companion Chronicles: The Ninth Doctor or other stories that show the Doctor from another perspective. And I really hope they are actually reaching out to Eccleston and not just assuming he won't do it. They should treat it the way they treated Tom Baker - he might never come back but imagine if he did! - and let's hope the outcome is the same. Also I'd agree that I don't think he'd find it offensive buuut I think he could use it as an excuse in the future, in the "well you've already got the other guy doing a good job, you don't need me" sense. ''another perspective'' that would i.m.o be one of the deciding factors for whether Eccleston returns or not, he wasn't an existing fan of the show and series 1 wasn't an overly smooth production so Eccleston might not have as much nostalgia for the series as the other Doctors and could be harder to persuade if he feels he has already done everything he could do with the character, the 9th Doctor has one of the tightest, strongly written character arcs of all the Doctors... It's funny cause I meant perspective as in point of view like Rose or Mickey narrating etc. but I agree with every point you make. Carry on.

I was thinking about this earlier on today. What about if the recasting was written into the storyline? Rose returns to the Powell Estate with someone who's like but not the same as Eccelstone. "We've just been to the land of fiction and he got some puzzle wrong. He says it'll wear off at some point..." So a genuine In universe reason for a temporary recasting. It doesn't have to be that one of course. Could be something more interesting, but it happened to Jamie so why not? I'd do it in something low key though. Tales from the Powell Estate box set or something? BF has done that kind of thing before. Ghost in the Machine springs to mind. Still, that seems like it can work for one story, but not as a way to do a regular Ninth Doctor series.

Just had a random thought, how would you feel if BF did announce 9th Doctor stories...with Rowan Atkinson's Curse Of Fatal Death Doctor, maybe for charity?

This has probably been said, but, BF has used an actor on a number of occasions who made me think "wait a minute. This isn't Eccleston in a non-Doctor role, is it? No, can't be."
Whomever that is, he would work.

I would love a multi-Doctor Unbound with Rowan Atkinson and Joanna Lumley facing off against the Jonathan Pryce Master.

No, just no, not ever, not ever, not ever, NO. Look, there's a very good reason why they should make audios with Atkinson's Doctor. If you want to know why, I'll explain later.

Well, I can think of very many reasons why they shouldn't make any audios with Rowan Atkinson's 'Doctor', but I don't want to swear and curse on a family friendly forum!

It should be noted that Ecclestone has expressed intrest in reviving the role on audio, as well. Personally, I think it would be more damaging to the audience Big Finish are trying to cultivate with the revival releases, particularly with the medium of audio drama. Hello again. If that is the case then we should definitely wait for the man who brought our beloved Doctor back to life. Once he has done one audio adventure, he will hopefully see what fun it is; no line-learning, a very fast production method and some excellent guest actors, perhaps he will weaken one day and fall under the spell of Big Finish. Stephen Beckett could be used in Companion Chronicles with Billie Piper, Camille Coduri, Noel Sullivan and John Barrowman. One day the speakers will ring with the fantastic tones of Mr. Eccleston our noble ninth Doctor, I'm sure of it.
