Is it...
The same river twice Or Same bath twice?
Because a river is always moving

Probably just related to his reluctance to do B.F, he signed for 13 episodes and did them, as far as Eccleston is concerned he may simply feel he's already done everything with the part he wanted to do and wants to move onto other projects. Straight Audiobook readings probably don't pay that well either. I hate the job attitude Christopher Eccleston seems to have on everything. You would think it would be dull ruling out returns to everything because 'you shouldn't bathe in the same river twice'. He returned for season 2 of leftovers and he has said he would be open to return to heroes if required. So I don't think he's totally against returning to everything

Heroes and Leftovers are different, in Who he tells a character's story from beginning to end, all in the space of a season. Obviously he thinks/thought there was more to do with his character in those other shows.
but it's important to remember, he was ameniable to doing "Day of the Doctor".
