Land Of The Dead, decent but the weak climax lacked dramatic impact after the promising build up.

Magic, Anthony Hopkins should have won a Oscar for this amazing performance as Corky, the make Fats shut up for 5 minutes scene with Burgess Meredith as Ben Green is tense, suspenseful, tragic & chilling.

Quantum of Solace Some great action set pieces, wrapped up in a stupidly convoluted plot. Was a lot shorter than i remember though

Quantum of Solace Some great action set pieces, wrapped up in a stupidly convoluted plot. Was a lot shorter than i remember though They were killed by the writer's strike. All the talents were signed up and without delaying for a year they couldn't postpone it - so they pushed on.... Daniel Craig and Marc Forster themselves wrote quite a bit of the dialogue. It just doesn't work, sadly, but at least there are extenuating reasons. And the MGM takeover thereafter allowed them to rejig things, assess what went wrong and intentionally take more time over the next one. So it's fair to say we needed that strumble for Skyfall to be so good. And I do like some things. David Arnold's score is fab. Picking up straight from the end of Casino is fun (though Bond is now in a Tom Ford suit for...reasons), Mr White is a better higher-power for Quantum than Waltz was as Blofeld for SPECTRE, we finally get an interesting Bill Tanner, Felix gets to be a lot more morally grey and the biggie - the ending. That downbeat, lowkey ending is the most Fleming ending since OHMSS.

Bird With The Crystal Plumage. What’s that like? One of the great giallo films ever made. When Argento was great, he was stunning.

Last night I did another Netflix party movie hosted by a Toronto radio station and with a band. Watched Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels. Not my first time, but always fun (even though I like Snatch better). Pan's Labyrinth I've been wanting to see this one for a while. What an amazing film, but so, so very sad. The fear of the unknown in the Labyrinth is nothing compared to the horror of the real world. The young girl who plays Ofelia was phenomenal. I just saw that for the first time not too long ago too, great movie! I'm not actually convinced that the fantastical other world was even real, I came away from the movie more of the feeling that it was Ofelia's way of coping with the horrific reality of her life. Alice in Wonderland, but instead of flighty, crushingly depressing.

I do love Pan's Labyrinth and it's probably Del Toro's best looking film (which is saying something) but I do think I prefer The Devil's Backbone, his earlier Spanish Civil War set horror fantasy with a child lead. I saw it in the cinema and to this day I've never seen an audience go through the ups and downs from terrified to contented so much.
Crimson Peak, to me, remains his most underrated of recent times. Watching it I can only think that's exactly what his Dark Shadows would be like.

Only things that work for me in Snatch better then Lock Stock are Mike Reid scenes (particularly with Dennis Franz) and Benico Del Torro who I'm sure is proper "Method" Acting! Regards mark687

Quantum of Solace Some great action set pieces, wrapped up in a stupidly convoluted plot. Was a lot shorter than i remember though One of my least favourite Bond's, went from the awesome Casino Royale to this. The fast cutting jarred the action for me, 97 minutes without credits poor run time for a Bond film & i thought the villains were poor. Thank godness Skyfall was a return to form. Oh & sticking the ruddy gunbarrel (one of the most iconic cinematic sequence) tagged on so quickly at the end is daft it should be at the beginning like it's always been. Rant over, back to the zero room for me.

Bird With The Crystal Plumage. What’s that like? It's an Italian Gallio film. A kind of stylised murder mystsr/horror film. The director Dario Argento is one of my favourite filmmakers. 😊

Darkman (1990)
Always thought that this was a rather underrated superhero film. Also a breath of fresh air to have a vigilante hero who is completely and utterly nuts and actually acknowledges it. Even though Liam Neeson does a great job (as to be expected) I still would have liked to have seen how Bruce Campbell would have played it.

Yesterday I watched the RIfftrax "version" of 'Solo' (I enjoyed it fine, though I don't think as much as I did when it first came out) and 'The Velocipastor' (which was better than I was expecting).
At the moment I'm currently watching Roger Corman's 'The Trip' (my 17th film since this time next week, not counting documentaries). Ok, I'm enjoying it ok... 'Not sure if I'm ever going to watch it again, but -

4 Kids and It
(Not as good as the BBC TV version back in the day but it does have Sir Michael Caine voicing "It")

Hellraiser, 33 years on this still gives me chills.
"No tears please it's a waste of good suffering"
"We have such sights to show you".
"We'll tear your soul apart".
I sweat that Pinhead has took on the form of some of my ex girlfriends over the years.

Lol Doug Bradleys voice alone gives me chills, Andy,Robinson wearing Larry's skin very creepy scenes. This is a true horror classic. "That line you mentioned awesome, direct & too the point, remember seeing this around 14 yrs old scared the hell out of me.
