Biggles: Adventures in Time (1986) Best known for being Peter Cushing’s last performance, this film is frankly ridiculous with the addition of a completely unnecessary science fiction element. Still ever so enjoyable though and the soundtrack is fantastic. Unlike some of his fictional contemporaries, I do think that you still could reinvent or introduce the character of Biggles to a modern audience. Its how i was introduced to the series, actually then got the books through my school book club in the 90s. Did not know it was Cushing's last Screen role. Regards mark687

'Ant-Man' - Whilst I do still enjoy it, I don't know if I did quite as much today as I did on the previous occasions I've seen it (though I did have a long day at work, starting at 7am...)
'Jail Bait' (Asylum, 2014) - Ok, that was ok... Could've done with a little bit less nudity (but then it's a 'woman in prison' exploitation film, what're we expecting?) and the warden was taken down pretty easily, but yeah, that was ok.
'Bride Of The Monster' - 'Mainly have this playing in the background before I (finally) crawl into bed, but it's at least enjoyable...

Throw Mamma Off the Train I'd only ever caught little snippets of this film before on TV. First time seeing it through. It honestly had me howling with laughter!

Natural Born Killers: Director's Cut - This is one of those movies that I find more fascinating than enjoyable in itself. I think the early parts of it are a disjointed mess, and not until the standoff at the drug store when the hyperactive editing settles down does the film build an atmosphere which allows its surrealism to actually work. I also think the satire on media violence gets muddled amongst so much other nonsense going on. Not the least of which is that many of the violent scenes are portrayed as exciting, which sort of undercuts its own point. A sharper contrast between the "real" events and the media glamour would be more effective.
And, of course, I will always pine for Tarantino's unmade version. He approved of Tony Scott's take on True Romance, but boy did he hate NBK. I should dig up the script book and find out what might have been.
All the hullabaloo surrounding this film, both upon release, and after its connection to Columbine and other alleged copycat crimes, has made it into quite a notorious piece of cinema. It seems like there's this idea that it was made with evil intent and anyone who likes it must be a sicko. I appreciate the irony that a movie that criticizes glorification of violence in the media has itself been criticized for glorifying or even inspiring violence. Whatever its flaws or its content, it is only a movie. Aren't they all?

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

This Island Earth. A perfect film for a rainy afternoon. Beautiful to look at and quite exciting despite the story itself building up some excellent tension to an anti-climactic ending.

Charlie’s Angels (2019)
An awful movie with an utterly dreadful script. Probably going to get raked over the coals for this, but I honestly think this was more a vanity project if anything.
As I saw someone once remark, I also don’t understand why Charlie’s Angels is the property you choose to reboot in the modern day. A Totally Spies movie I think would have fared much better and been far more enjoyable for one thing.

Drive (2011) Fantastic slow build drama, but when it kicks in, it kicks in. Refn set out his style early

Found the entire experience about as subtle as a gas explosion to be honest.

Doctor Strange - Definitely not a favourite but fine, it's fine...
A Wedding For Christmas - 'Only here for Cristine Prosperi
The Phantom Light - Couldn't really get into it at first, but by the end I certainly had fun with it! (The fact that it's 'only' 72min probably helped...)
Avengers Grimm - Afairytale and The Avengers mockbuster? Only 'The Asylum'... I'm about halfway through now & I'm enjoying it fine. I'm unlikely to reccomend it to anyone, but it's at least entertaining enough for me not to turn it off & not go to bed...?

Since last posting...
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - Ugh. It's not even the alien stuff--I can give that a pass, two of the previous movies were about fictional religious artifacts. But this movie just has no soul or life to it whatsoever. It's so flat, no heart, no chemistry between the actors, And god why is there so much LAZY CGI? Just awful, on every level. I felt like I needed a mental enema when it was over, just to get it out of my brain.
Monkey Business - Once again leaning on the Marx Brothers to cleanse the pallette after a truly awful movie. I enjoy how the original films featuring the four of them are so clearly an evolution from vaudeville stage antics into actual films, and I think at this point they've pretty well worked out how to do stories on film. The dialogue is snappy, the gags are great. Just good stuff.
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan - Was still feeling a bit scuzzy from Crystal Skull lol and had been in a hell of a Star Trek mood for a few days. So, why not throw on the best Trek movie?
Star Trek III: The Search for Spock - Felt like continuing with the trilogy. This movie gets some flak, but I don't think it's really deserved. Yes it's surrounded by two better movies, but there's a lot in this movie I really enjoy. The theft of the Enterprise alone is pretty much the ballsiest thing that Kirk and crew ever pulled off, and that whole sequence is spectacular to watch.
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home - Might as well round out the trilogy, right? Another one of the greats. There's a few weird plot holes, but nothing that really tarnishes the movie in any meaningful way. In this one the TOS cast is really firing on all cylinders again. The chemistry between them is wonderful, and that they all get a shot at some comedy is just so much fun.
Castle in the Sky - Since the Studio Ghibli films are now on Netflix here, thought I'd fire up another Miyazaki I'd never seen. Such VIVID imagination in this one, absolutely overflowing with it. I enjoyed this very much.

Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker (2000)
A good finale for both Batman: The Animated Series and Batman Beyond. Mark Hamill it rather goes without saying is on fine form throughout as well.
The flashback towards his ‘final joke’ is practically perfect as well.

'Spider-Man Homecoming' - Still liked it, though I think I checked the time a couple of times...
'Holly Slept Over' - Why am I not even remotely surprised that a guy wrote this?...

Frost/Nixon tonight. I know it takes some liberties with history, but boy was this ever an entertaining film. Frank Langella, in particular, was riveting as Nixon.

Beauty and the Beast 1991 Just rewatched this after getting Disney Plus😊 I loved this movie growing up! I probably watched it at least once a week at a certain point in my childhood! It still lives up to this day and it it still makes me cry 😢 The songs are timeless and Belle and the Beast’s chemistry is unmatched in any other direct adaptation of the fairytale😊 I also noticed a lot more direct parallels between Belle/Beast and Clara/12 which was interesting 🤔😊the only slight criticism I have is that the enchanted objects are portrayed a bit too over the top cartoonish compared to the rest of the fairly gothic castle, perhaps that was the point (for contrast) but I think they could be a little less cutesy. But even then I still love this movie!😃It’s still a true timeless classic that gets me even more emotional now than when I watched it as a child! 😢🥰😃Also it’s far superior to the live action remake 🤔😉I may have to watch it again at some point during the year if I need cheering up sometime 🥰
