Annnnnnnd, there you go. I didn't say that. Moffat writes at least 4 stories a series. Why not let another writer write upto 4 stories a series? If Moffat only wrote 2 scripts a series, he could let Mark Gatiss write 4, Toby Whithouse could write another 4, Sarah Dollard 2,(for example) and so on. On the other hand, Moffat IS the showrunner... the one in charge of the show... assuming he has to write (as showrunner) the opening Ep, closing two parter, and say another story in the middle of the series (plus co-writes), I'd say (again, considering that he's showrunner) that that's a pretty reasonable number. That's about the number I'd be aiming for if I was showrunner. Because Moffat is the showrunner, someone in charge of - the show shouldn't entitle him to write the majority of the episodes. As a showrunner, he commissions the writers. He can delegate someone too write more episodes than himself. He chooses not to.

As show runner the buck stops with him, he's entitled to do as he pleases, within the constraints of the contract he has with the BBC.

icecreamdf , you give Caves of Androzani a 6/10? Are you insane? I always felt Caves of Amdrozani was very overrated. Its one of Davison's better episodes, but that isn't saying much. I always found it to be an average nd unremarkable episode, while a regeneration episode should be something special.

To be honest, Caves of Androzani is one of those stories where I get why it's a classic and I get that it's good television, but it's not really a Top 10 favourite of mine.

And why should he delegate 2 more episodes? It's not a bad thing. The man's a writer first. If it's what he loves to do, why shouldn't he do it? He worked damn hard to get to a place where he can write 4 episodes. Why begrudge him that?

I love Caves. I actually surprised myself with that. Davison's era is far from my favorite, but there's something about the writing, acting, directing of this story that seems to just all work. The relentlessness of it glues me to the story each and every time. And as someone who usually hates stories where The Doctor is seen to be a passive figure, it just works. Maybe that's why I love it so much. It has all the things that I usually don't like in Doctor Who and keeps me transfixed and engaged throughout. And the villains are just written to well.

David Tennant took 20 minutes to regenerate, and Matt Smith most of the episode. There are 2 things Mstt Smith can't do - dying and old. There was nothing special about Time of the Doctor. It was really dragged out.

Regenerated into a young Matt Smith, walked all the way down the tower, phoned Clara, got to the TARDIS, had an overlong ridiculous vision of Amy and THEN sneezed into Capaldi.

He could have done with a hankie.

And now we're back to arguing over a Moffat episode.

And now we're back to arguing over a Moffat episode. That's okay, that's normal... I'm still in shock that you rate The Curse of Fatal Death a 9/10 story but give Caves of Androzani only 6/10!

I don't know a single writer who will say that their writing improved when they wrote less. Writers write. It's what they do.

He wrote less then! Its certainly getting worse! I seriously don't think it was because he was writing less. (Plus he was writing a lot other things as well.) I think he writes better when there is someone else editing his work and keeping the arcs from becoming the unwieldy beasts that they sometimes become. But I don't think a writer should ever stop writing, or write less to please other people.
