I won't be seeking out this PAL Blu-ray unless it has some significant new extras. If region 1 becomes an option...then that's a different ball game...
Not everything has to be in high definition for me, I'm okay with video being presented in its original transmitted (clean maintained) form. Although, the original series of Star Trek with its enhancements does look pretty damned good in high definition.

I already have the standard DVD - I have no plans to pick up the Blu-Ray. I'd rather the six titles I don't have on DVD get re-released. Yeah, I'd rather spend money on something I don't have.

I've posted in another thread that an Australian store is doing a Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale at the moment on SOME Doctor Who DVDs, and they've got a lot of the old releases on shelf ( The Dalek Invasion of Earth, The Tomb of the Cybermen, The Three Doctors, Robots of Death and The Two Doctors are good examples). I don't know where in the world you are or whether they sell where you are, but they may have some of the stories you're after so I thought I'd post this just in case www.jbhifi.com.au/Also, has anyone else seen the re-release of the K9 Tales box set in Australia? It's not a box set any more, but a single case with both discs from the box set in it. I don't know why they did it.

Wonders can be done, even for material shot on video with film elements. Star Trek: The Next Gen is the most obvious example but realistically this won't be given that level of care on bluray for purely budgetary reasons (which is why we've always assumed it won't happen)- it would take some real TLC to do anything more than upscale that Vancouver-set video quality that almost every North American genre show of the 90s had from Sliders to the X-Files. Also Twin Peaks looks pretty darn great in HD.

On a related matter, I was browsing Gallifreybase earlier and some of the forum members stated that Universal's (?) exclusive ownership of the rights to Grace etc are about to expire...does this have any basis in fact? or is it merely wishful thinking/guesswork? I can't see why Universal would still be interested in holding onto the rights 20 years later, but by all accounts the rights issues are very complicated. Though Daphne Ashbrook reportedly 'let slip' at a convention months ago that Phillip Segal was looking into sorting out the rights issues involved with the TV Movie... As for the Blu Ray, I've got the bog standard DVD edition, so I might be tempted to upgrade depending on how good the upscaling/extras are...

I hope the BBC do get the rights back to Grace. An eighth Doctor and Grace Holloway box set set after the TV Movie and Prisoners of Time would be great.

I always thought it was shame that outside of the DWM comics, Grace never had a recurring role in the Doctor's life like the Brigadier or Frobisher did.

it would still be a must have just for the two new documentaries about Jon and Carrie on it. You've just reminded me I've never got round to watching those.
(Carry spelled it like I did just then BTW. )

At least they've not had the audacity to put that on disc yet. I'd KILL for Buffy and Angel on blu but they'd need to be completely re-done. What is Firefly like on bluray BTW?
I've just started a rewatch on DVD...

So no new special features? Hmm, I don't know whether to get this or not. I'm quite tempted (Spearhead From Space looks so lonely on its own...) but also don't really see the point if there's nothing new - I don't really care for picture quality.

Given there doesn't seem to be anything new that would make getting this a necessity for those of us who already have the standard release one would have to think that this is geared towards those who haven't got the movie in their collection.

It does have Night Of The Doctor added to it. Sure, most of us have that already but some who don't buy New Series releases might not. Given people like Steve Roberts and Chris Chapman seemed surprised to learn this was coming out I didn't think there was a chance of new features anyway. That's already an insanely stacked release.
Also, remember that while this release copies over the special features, it does so for the Revisitations boxset version of the TVM - so a lot of fans will only have the first release of the movie with far less features.
However, at 20 notes, they're having a laugh. That's considerably more than blurays from Criterion by comparison.

It's a pass from me at full price. Might get it when it's under a tenner but 20 quid for just an upscale and nothing new... Just naw.

With the region 1 classic Doctor Who DVDs increasingly going out of print. I still hope a NTSC *option* of this Blu-ray will eventually become available for North Americans to enjoy.

NTSC classic Who is getting crazy expensive in the aftermarket. I'd be happy for this to be reissued even as just an upscale simply so that it stays in print in some form.

The most interesting thing will be to see if the documentary content produced by Pup Ltd is presented in HD (or if it was shot/produced in SD?) The Revisitations boxset can be bought on Amazon for £15 alongside a classic of the Tom Baker era and a classic of the Peter Davison era. The only possible improvement the release can offer is the possibility of it being released in its native NTSC as opposed to PAL speed-up (DVD and Blu-ray encoding is supposedly different although I don't really understand the technical specifics of it) - although I doubt they'll change around all of that But of course Lee Binding's artwork is absolutely amazing
