Great news that Titan are adding another classic Doctor. Hopefully this means we'll eventually see them do every Doctor.

I know he hasn't hated "Doc Traitor" since about 2004, but still, it's weird to see Paul Cornell heading a Third Doctor series.
Anyhow, this is exciting news. Pertwee's era doesn't seem to get enough love, and feels like a natural fit for comics.

The 3rd Doctor now?
Blimey, Titan certainly aren't showing any signs of slowing down! At this rate, they will have produced comics for every Doctor by 2023.

Great news, Pertwee isn't one of my favourite doctors, but his action packed era seems a perfect match for comic stories, fingers crossed they do a War Doctor miniseries at some point... I'm feeling more and more sorry for the bloke who runs: www.eyespider.freeserve.co.uk/drwho/compleat.html

Really sad that someone who hated the Third Doctor, is writing for the Third Doctor.

Really sad that someone who hated the Third Doctor, is writing for the Third Doctor. Paul Cornell is a great writer so he'll probably look at the Jon Pertwee era critically and fix the flaws those of us who like his era can't see.

Really sad that someone who hated the Third Doctor, is writing for the Third Doctor. Huh? I thought Paul Cornell was a fan of the Third Doctor! Ever read any of the Twelve Doctors of Christmas blogs? Paul chose to wrote lovingly of Jon Pertwee's Doctor, which I'm sure he wouldn't have done if he "hated" the Third Doctor. Paul's 3rd Doctor Blog

Didn't he give the Pertwee stories 0 out of 10, for the DWM poll?

What the what now? What's this about Cornell about hating the third Doctor? Exhibit A. He eventually changed his mind, hence Exhibit B.

Exhibit A in particular seems like a "I don't like Bob Holmes" rant rather than "the thrid Doctor's a prat" rant (although he touches on that briefly). "But no, they exiled the Doctor to Earth and made him a Tory."-Coming from a Lefty like Cornell, that's rather damning, don't you think? Anyhow, there were other, rather more hyperbolic examples, such as his wishing that the entire Pertwee era could be burned, or, perhaps most infamously, giving the entire era a 0/10. There's also an interview from the mid-90's, in which, talking about the nascent Devil Goblins From Neptune (which he was, at that point, collaborating on,) he refers to the Third Doctor as "Doc Traitor."

Didn't he give the Pertwee stories 0 out of 10, for the DWM poll? Are people not allowed to change their minds over time?

Well, I'll forgive Paul his past excesses and just hope that he delivers a strong Third Doctor story for Titan Comics that will do the era justice.

Are people not allowed to change their minds over time? Its not as if he gave a 5 or 6 and changed to an 8. Zero is quite a strong statement. A rating of zero is tantamount to saying: "May your festering carcass burn in the deepest slave pits of Hell and your hands never sully the printed page ever again." Interestingly enough, Millennium!Cornell's opinion of the Third Doctor appeared to change dramatically over a period of just three years (from 2000 to 2003, respectively). I'm more than willing to believe it was just high spirits and a membrane of overenthusiasm, there are a lot of controversial opinions floating around from people who are fans or have written for the series. Dave Stone's loathing for the McGann telemovie leaked over into Burning Heart (i.e. the Sixth Doctor angrily derides the idea of becoming half-human and the description of the TARDIS's chameleon circuit as a "cloaking device") and Russell T. Davies found both Richard E. Grant and Scream of the Shalka both rather unimpressive in their attempts to bring back the series (ironically, it is the only webcast to receive the DVD treatment). I personally am not a fan of the televised Fifth Doctor because he comes across as rather ineffectual and weak, even in a story where he plots to use his execution to his own advantage in order to get close to the villain. I much prefer the proactive Androzani-inspired interpretation that Big Finish went for. Cornell's labelling Pyramids of Mars a "car crash" and The Myth Makers a "highlight" is a bit bemusing to me as well. I'd honestly flip those two opinions around, there are a lot of problems with The Myth Makers just from the outset. Still, I rather liked Love and War, Seasons of Fear is a treat and Human Nature can be considered his magnum opus, so it'll be interesting to see him bring that lyricism and airiness of prose to the Third Doctor.
