According to the lastest podcast, as of the 1st of September the following releases' pre-order prices will be increased:
The Diary of River Song: Series 2 The Churchill Years: Volume 2 Classic Doctors, New Monsters: Volume 2 The Eighth Doctor: The Time War
Better get those pre-orders in soon!

I don't know how I feel about this but whatever, If they have to up the price, I trust they have a good reason.(and it's not like it's gonna stop me from buying them.

Is this the first time they have jacked the prices up prior to release? Especially for a release such as the second classic Doctors box set that is listed as TBA on release date.

Just what I was wondering. Can't really call them "Pre-Order Prices" anymore, can they? Seems like they want to get people coughing up as close to announcement for releases and not waiting till closer to release. While I see the business sense in wanting the money ASAP..I also think people who would normally order say weeks out from a release rather than over a year out may now be inclined to take advantage of Amazon's cheaper prices.

Exactly and right now, at this point, it feels like the tendency Big Finish has to make changes, both major & minor, to long established policies continues to be tone deaf in how they handle getting the news out to its subscribers. Getting it from a podcast where it all yucks & fun isn't the right way to let us know changes are happening. Anyway, between this and Omega Factor s.2 getting pushed back a year, well, things are not sitting real well for me. I, like so many of us, spend a lot of money on Big Finish productions...would it kill them to have this announced via email, notification on the web site & through social media?

And is this a change that effects all pre-orders or just those for new series releases? Are the UNIT and War Doctor ranges seeing the same increases? The 8th Doctor Time War release? How much of a price increase will we see on those titles designated? What is the criteria?

I'm glad I preordered River 2 now. I feel like I have to preorder Classic Doctors, New Monsters 2 now but it's tough to justify a preorder for something I'm not sure of about the release. I just don't want to spend however much more on the preorder. I'll wait for payday to do it.

Yeah, making this announcement on the podcast isn't the way to go. I certainly hope they'll be announcing it more officially on the website and in the email newsletter.
And I can't recall them ever upping the pre-order price months before the release is due out. May have to do with the fluctuation in the exchange rate.
For budgeting reasons, I usually wait till closer to the release date to pre-order. This is going to force me to pre-order sooner than I would have and will force me to wait on some things I was planning to buy before the end of the month.
Interesting that only those four box sets were mentioned, too. Some other items that could be pre-ordered aren't mentioned. It can't be that they need to ensure there is enough interest, can it? Or maybe they're having a cash flow problem?

They upped the pre-order price on The Wizard of Oz about 20% if I recall correctly (this is probably their way of reminding me I haven't bought that yet after being all for the idea at the time, although it might well end up in the basket with a Luther Arkwright dl soon I'm hoping. As always it's as if they know when I have unspent money and how much). :-)
I hope the prices don't go up too steeply though, I don't think I'm quite that far ahead with pre-orders yet that I should order these before getting the MR and EA subs falling due.

Yeah but they didn't up the price prior to release, did they? Unless I'm very much mistaken, which is always possible, standard operating procedure has been to hold the pre-order price through the end of the month in which the title was scheduled to be released. In the case of something as recent as the 2nd Doctor Companion Chronicles was held to the end of the following month since the the item came out so close to the end of its release month. Anyway, if you have been around BF long enough this should not come as a surprise. These kinds of changes to policies have often been done in a unorganized way and almost always raise more questions among the the subscriber community than they answer....which is the opposite of how companies should make these kinds of changes. I love BF to pieces but bit by bit they make it a little harder to support them. I'm pretty frustrated with them at the moment.

I'm still wondering why those four are the ones mentioned. Some are scheduled for release in over a year from now and don't even have many details on them. And it's got me wondering if they're going to be raising the pre-order price on other releases that are coming out sooner, but weren't mentioned.
Makes me think maybe I should get everything on my pre-order list before the end of the month. Means I will have to wait longer than planned to get my next Main Range sub.

Yeah but they didn't up the price prior to release, did they? With the Wizard of Oz I think they did, I think it went from $8.99 to $12.99 before it came out and I couldn't see it as taking up two discs unexpectedly to account for that. I haven't paid attention to what the price did after that. Just to say that such a thing might not be completely without precedent.

So I suspect you may be misremembering the timing, unless you are saying that the physical CDs were available on pre-order at $12.99. Otherwise, if it was an increase on the pre-order price, I would expect the full price to be even higher. Usually, a release stays at pre-order price for the duration of the month in which it is released, and then goes up to full price. I wasn't that interested in Wizard of Oz, so I didn't pay much attention to what the pre-order and full price would be.

The Churchill Years: Volume 2 Classic Doctors, New Monsters: Volume 2 The Eighth Doctor: The Time War This policy seems very severe!!Especially when you think that these 3 titles are a million miles away from being recorded and a year away(approx.)from release. My pre-orders include Doom coalition 4 and Unit 4(May 2017)plus many more before that.If I want these titles now im expected to pre-order by sept 1st??.Also no official announcement!!Just a "Bye the Way" tagged on the end of a podcast? hopefully this will only apply to the said items ( omega factor put back a year?) this does not encourage early pre-orders. 2

I do intend to buy CDNM2 and Diary V2 but as I have a very limited BF budget I'll have to wait to see how big will the increase be before I make a decision on future purchases £22, £25, £30? (this is already an expensive month for me...)If the increase is too big I'm not sure I could justify pre-ordering as much anymore...
The boxsets currently work out as much cheaper than the monthly release ranges, so I've been half expecting a price increase for a while, especially with the uncertain economic fallout from Brexit (which I've read might now be delayed until 2019...) and a possible recession looming in the future for the UK.
I'm often tempted to say lowering the prices dramatically would bring in more listeners, but sadly it seems too many Who fans write of BF as just 'boring audio'...

I have long planned to buy a couple of these, and not having listened to the podcast yet, appreciate this thread - thanks Whovitt.
As someone who usually buys on the last day of the pre-release price, just for cash-flow reasons, it seems a bit unfair to me that I don't pay anything more than those who commit 6 months in advance. So I can understand the logic in giving those who order much further in advance a bigger discount. Having said that, contradicting previously announced pricing for these sets with only a couple of weeks notice - and only in a podcast and while everyone is on holiday - is perhaps not the ideal way to handle the change. Not a problem for me, but I can see it could easily cause people difficulties that could have been avoided with a more transparent pricing policy.

Diary of River Song 2, Churchill Years 2, Classic Doctors New Monsters 2, and 8th Doctor Time War will go up to £23 each (originally £20) starting September 1st (they were originally announced and made available for pre-order on February 29). It has now been announced in more than just a podcast, as a news item. www.bigfinish.com/news/v/2017-pre-order-prices

I'm quite sure there was no intention to ONLY announce it in a podcast.

Yes I believe this is a first (at least since I've discovered Big Finish in 2013)
I have ordered all of these already (well except Churchhill which is s range I decided to skip). I usually do preorder at announcement if it's something I know I definitely want but sometimes I do wait for more details.
