I doubt if the BBC will base a decision affecting a UK television show on how well it does in America. A TV programme would need some sort of core audience in the UK if it was to stay in business. Media sales in the US might be a nice plus for BBC Worldwide, but I doubt if channel programming in the UK would take that in to account. If a show is deemed (by the BBC) to have flopped, then it will be cancelled. Top Gear flopped last year, yet it wasn't cancelled. It still got millions of viewers and its brand is still strong. Class has neither.

The lowest rating was 2.64m so I'm not sure why you're quibbling with Sherlock's description. If you want to say the ratings are half of what they were under the previous mob, I think that's damning enough.

The ratings for Class were atrocious. The last episode was watched on BBC One by 320,000. Not good enough!

Especially, back to back episodes! Thats why they should have done it like Torchwood. 1 episode a week at 10pm on BBC2.

Also, if someone was impressed by Ep1 or 2 on BBC1 broadcast, they could go on the I-Player and watch the rest of the season without waiting a month and a half for the TV run. As said by another poster the show lives or (as seems certain now) dies on it's online performance, not its BBC1 ratings. It only got shown on channel 1 for charter obligations that BBC3 online content has to have a BBC1 broadcast - hence the lame duck timeslot. It's failure as a streaming show and on I-Player catchup will be used to write the obituary not BBC1 ratings.

Was it available to watch on iplayer in January and February, as a catch-up?

Also noticed that episodes vary in length. They vary from 40, 45, 50 minutes. Yet, no other show is allowed that leeway (except DW).

Not sure the exact reason why.

No. Nothing to do with Class specifically. This was all part of the agreement to take BBC3 off TV - any new shows made for BBC3 online would be shown on BBC1 within a year and available on the I-Player for a year.

I'm in no hurry for it
But an attempt could be made to reconcile it "in universe" especially after the Angels Cliff-hanger
