The 2016 Doctor Who Christmas special is called The Return of Doctor Mysterio. Starring: Peter Capaldi and Matt Lucas. Written by Steven Moffat. With a running time of 60 minutes. What does the "G" stand for within its promotional image given? Doctor of the GALAXY...? Your predictions and analyses concerning the 2016 Doctor Who Xmas special?

Wait, is this a joke? I genuinely can't tell.
EDIT: Okay, turns out it's real. Well, all I'll say is that any interest I potentially could have had in this episode has been squashed and I will definitely be giving this one a miss... I will shut up and let people who actually care discuss it, I just... wow.

Seriously? All this negativity before the episode has even aired? Or even a proper trailer?

At least it wasn't "The Return of Doctor Disco"
The only thing that made me gag more severely was the line, "Davros, Dark Lord of Skaro".....

And directed by the guy who did the Girl who Died and the Woman who Lived; two of my least favourite stories in terms of direction.

I'm really optimistic about this and I'm glad we finally get a superhero episode. It looks like a really fun romp which is what a Christmas special should be. I just hope they leave it open so we can get a couple recurring characters out of the superhero and the journalist.

Having been Doctor Who TV new series starved for the 2016 year. I'm also looking forward to seeing this perhaps offbeat Christmas special. And, I'm okay with differing point of view objectivity from other fans.

Sounds like Camp, Daft fun which is generally what I'd expect to see in a Christmas Special made for the masses, I've only liked a few of the Xmas specials (including both of Capaldi's) personally I'll take a superhero episode which at the least sounds like a change of pace and bonkers enough to at least get annoyed by, over the godawful and boring mess that was the Titanic in Space episode.

I think the formula of Christmas + New York + Doctor + Superheroes is going to be absolutely wonderful and I think Moffat is going to be firing on all cylinder's for his final series on the show after a year break so I have great hope for a bit of a Renaissance for the show before the showrunner change.

So Doctor Who has been off-TV for a year and when it returns, how does Steven Moffat decide to mark the Christmas Special?
Not with a returning character or a big name or a major enemy returning such as Missy. No: he goes for superheroes.
I mean, I like superheroes but in the Christmas Special? Seriously? Why not leave it for a normal episode of the show and use the only episode this year to do something big for maximum publicity such as bringing back a fan-favourite character or casting Dame Maggie Smith as a guest companion?

And how do you know Moffat will soon be unemployed? I imagine he has a future gig of some sort lined up. But even if he doesn't, it's really none of our business.
