I'm STILL confused as to whether Rev. Isaiah Trask is the same person as 1897's Rev. Gregory Trask. The Carrion Queen, The Poisoned Soul and Fall of the House of Trask bring Rev. Gregory Trask back into the storyline in 1941....and due to circumstances, he is un-aged at that time. Fast forward 42 years to Eagle Hill Cemetery's caretaker Rev. Hartswood. I don't know about anyone else, but my first thought when hearing him was, "It's Gregory Trask, now aged to an old man"....then when Seraph reveals him as Rev. Isaiah Trask, I was scratching my head going, "WHO???" He makes a cameo appearance in Beyond the Grave, but in terms of the internal timeline that takes place ten years before Kingdom of the Dead. Isaiah Trask is one mystery Big Finish need to clear up. The bit where he doesn't remember his parents is consistent with previous Trasks, a result of an indiscretion who was left at an orphanage to be picked up at a later point when they are impressionable (explained in The Wicked and the Dead), and thus perfect to mold to represent the Lord while indulging their worst character traits. Maybe Tony Peterson and Isaiah are actually twins who weren't reunited with their biological father, and permanently separated at birth. the only flaw in that is that the Trask line we're familiar with ended with Charity, who died without having any children, biological or adopted. Unless there's another branch of the family that was spared the Dark Lord's attentions, and where Tony and Isaiah came from. As for how he lived in the empty chapel for years without anyone knowing who he was (he has no problem convincing Ed and Susan he's from out of town), that's another mystery. Mrs. Haggerty took pity on him and didn't tell anyone?

Isaiah can't be a long-lost twin to Tony, because (I'm quite sure) Isaiah is a very old man! Tony is not. And as for Gregory not living past 1950, how would you know that? If he was brought back to 1941 by the Dark Lord at the age he was when he died (Approx 40-ish), then by 1950 he would only be about 49. By 1983, the time of Kingdom of the Dead, he would be the right age for Rev. Hartswood--about 82. I got the impression Hartswood/Isaiah was elderly. Didn't you?

Hartswood, eventually Isaiah, is far too nice to ever be Gregory Trask (who locked kids in the closet for kicks and was willing to resort to murder while being too cowardly to do it himself). Could still be a branch of the Trask family that split off at some point.

Even in the original series, I think it's Angelique who wonders if Tony Peterson is a descendant of Trask. With Elias Trask's ways, perhaps both Hartswood and Peterson are descendants of a bastard line. Ellias might not have even known about them. I mean Quentin had his own secret off-spring in 1897.
In my relistening to KotD, and the latest bite-sized audios, I am curious where Sebastian Shaw was during this time. Patient D seems to make clear he was the last patient until Maggie shows up. Did killing Rankin bring him back, or was he hidden in some cob-webbed corner and forgotten about?

I mean if Gregory Trask had been at least 40 years old in 1897 (he looked much older), he would have been at least 93 in 1950. I do see what you mean about the Dark Lord bringing him back in 1941, but I had the feeling all through that that Trask was a fragile relic if not mostly spirit. I definitely thought of Hartswood as being elderly, but not the same Trask. Though maybe he could have been reincarnated -- his last chance at a do-over.

Did killing Rankin bring him back, or was he hidden in some cob-webbed corner and forgotten about? I've often wondered this myself, and the recent Cobwebs does nothing to address this, unless we're to assume he was buried so far in his own mind that he was just left alone, a vegetable in a side room, while the creature feasted on the minds of everyone else...

Perhaps Angelique had him cloaked too. She did that on Maggie so Barnabas wouldn't find her, and it sounded like she opted not to do the same for Rankin on Maggie. Maybe because he was so trapped in his head that Rankin couldn't summon any illusions to cause him fear to feed off.

Yes, if Angelique was depending on Sebastian helping her, that could have shielded him. Or Sebastian could have been protected by natural causes -- maybe he was transferred away to another facility for a while. I keep thinking apparently Windcliff merged with several area hospitals to have a branch closer to Collinsport. Originally on the show it was about 90 miles away. More recently in the audios it has seemed like Windcliff is only a few miles away.

Yeah--90 miles, a bit much for Maggie to walk when she escaped with Sarah's help, but there's never any indication that she took a cab or hitched a ride. It's left vague--and I always thought she did it on foot!

She was a young kid, so there's no way she could have afforded a cab and anyone who picked her up would insist on taking her to the front door. Pretty impressive considering she'd never been to Collinwood before. Amy wasn't even tired out like Maggie was when she walked into the Blue Whale (an entrance one of the first scene in glorious color if I remember correctly).

Don't forget when Hallie and David escape Windcliffe or Crazy Quentin in 1995.

Now that we've wrapped up the listening series of "full-cast" Seasons I and II, do people have suggestions for what we should try to do a group listen to next and when?

Trace has a post on the first page of this thread with some additional items. If memory serves (probably doesn't) those were items that might not have been included in previous listen-throughs? I'm up for anything you like, although there are some extra distractions with the arrival of spring and I've got some catching up to do again not only with Dark Shadows but with a number of other ranges also.
I'm happy to see Return to Collinwood on Tracy's list since I am way overdue to hear it again, and would love to have the auspice provided by the listen through - it might just mean I will end up actually hearing it instead of just wishing. Might go last on the list chronologically, though, which might also provide more time for people who don't have it to get a copy? It's one I think is very worthwhile personally, and it's not only pretty much the audio that started them all, but it features Donna Wandry too, yay!
At least I got half-way through Kingdom of the Dead, I do enjoy the second full-cast season even more than the first. So much to like about it including that I just adore the way Rev. Hartswood walks on in the caretaker's role, and that the scene with Lizzie Hopley is just amazing.
Ever since I heard it again, I've been reflecting on why that scene is so striking to me - I think maybe it dramatically underscores the complexity of being a vampire, when Barnabas' incredibly creepy stealth almost seems to have humanitarian origins, and being deprived of it is enough to make him lose his appetite? I dunno, something like that, anyway?

I liked Kingdom of the Dead a lot and was in the habit of listening to it every year until recently (when the growing number of DS audios made me feel like there were so many other choices that I couldn't justify hearing this one so often). The standoff between Barnabas and Willie, Willie trying to protect Maggie, Barnabas threatening them at cockcrow -- all that is so deliciously dramatic and a long time coming. The grand party near the end is appropriately big and fun. There's just a lot to like about it.

This quietened down a bit towards the end - is there still an appetite for doing another listenthru?
I'd suggest the 1897 audios this time. For the selfish reason that I recently saw that storyline. (I'm approaching the end of the Leviathans now - I think. The Pennock has landed.)

I'm on to the Leviathan clean up, where the story is stopped and the new characters ushered out before jumping Time Bands and most of the cast go film House of Dark Shadows.
