Fluff... but lovely fluff.
Very well executed and a nice pilot.
Ideal to bring these characters back to face modern torchwood

Did you do a Benji Clifford? Sorry? What do you mean? You called it The Dollshouse. It's just The Dollhouse. Last week's podcast had Benji make the same mistake, and in this week's podcast he said Nick gave him no end of grief about it.

Those accents sound so fake. I can assure you my pen pal from L.A. does not talk like that!

Those accents sound so fake. I can assure you my pen pal from L.A. does not talk like that! What part of L.A. does your pen pal come from? Do they have a Boyle Heights accent or maybe an East L.A. accent? A Lincoln Heights one perhaps or El Sereno and City Terrace? I take it you haven't picked up the many L.A. accents such as Chicano English we hear in the link above?

Given the few L.A. accent examples I mentioned, I gather you'll now reverse your claim of 'fake' statement. Please make sure you know what you're talking about DB.

Please make sure you know what you're talking about DB. It still doesn't sound real to me, but if they are the actors' actual accents then I apologise to them should they be reading this and reverse my claims. Something about it just doesn't sound right. It doesn't sound like any accents I've heard in US dramas and movies.

Two of the three ladies are indeed American actresses. However they're acting in a very heightened way to accentuate elements of the Charlie's Angels parody. It seems most of the people getting hung up on this are British posters, oddly.

Definitely a weird release and I was also surprised by no trailer or interviews. I really wanted the interviews to see what was in their minds.
Regarding what some people felt was a change in tone during the piece - Valerie's encounter at the beginning sounded worse than it turned out to be later, but we didn't know that. It then changed tone to Charley's Angels and then got back to Torchwood dark later. I was surprised that they killed Charley, but that's Torchwood for you. I would also be interested in hearing about some of their earlier and later cases.

I rather enjoyed that. Torchwood is a breath of fresh air, and this release is a breath of fresh within that. I can understand why fans of the TV show would want something with more obvious ties to it, but as someone whose interest in television Torchood remains limited, I found these three characters to be as fresh as people like Tosh, Ianto and Suzie Costello. Very entertaining, occasionally very silly (I have no problem with that). Good fun.

I hate to be 'that guy', but this was absolutely, without a shadow of a doubt, the worst Big Finish release I have ever listened to, and I have over 90% of everything they have ever released in the past eighteen or so years. Even in something like Exile or The Dark Husband I can find some little sliver to make it worthwhile having listened to at least once, I can find something positive to take away from the experience, but not here. Not a single redeeming factor, just an interminably bland paint-by-numbers pastiche full of unconvincing performances of uninteresting clichéd characters sprouting anachronistic dialogue in a dull, unevenly paced and leaden story. And if that wasn't bad enough, its connection to Torchwood is so spurious and (literally) disposable that it all seems completely pointless, to boot. So bad that I won't be subscribing to Torchwood again because of it, as I don't want to risk ever buying another release connected to this one. Just truly, mind numbingly awful.
Sorry for the rant, but yeah, safe to say I wasn't a fan.

I don't know if it's the worst thing ever (nekromanteia springs to mind) but it wasn't very good and definitely the weakest Torchwood story. If it didn't have Torchwood in the title then it wouldn't have made any difference.
I have liked every single Torchwood story but this wasn't Torchwood in my opinion. I suppose when the quality is so high, any story that doesn't compare in terms of quality is going to look bad.
Hopefully there won't be anymore from this trio.

Yeah, couldn't agree more, other than the fact that I'd seriously rather listen to Nekromanteia. I'm glad that some people enjoyed this, but I was rather taken aback with just how bad I personally found this to be. Even more so considering how high the bar has generally been, as far as the Torchwood releases go. Still, another month, another Torchwood. Hopefully this next one brings everything back on track. Oh, and I should have clarified that I won't be subscribing on faith any longer, I may well eventually subscribe again next series, but not until I know the full line-up of stories being offered. Really dented my faith in a pretty significant way, this one. Still, live and learn.
