They have said they're not planning any more sets, which is a shame. That's disappointing. I liked both volumes. They could easily do more sets. Krillitanes being an obvious candidate for a volume three. There's still the Reapers, the Dream Lord and Pyroviles who would be feasible too.

Hm. I'm in two minds about this potentially being the last set (for now). I'm fine with it if BF start including these creatures into "normal" releases (i.e. the Main Range, 4DAs, etc.), but if that's not the case and this is the only way we'll get to see some monsters at BF, then I'd rather them continue with CDNM sets.

If I remember right, there was some buzz that because the MR is booked up years in advance, doing CDNM was the only way to get the new monsters in without upheaval of already comissioned pieces or waiting 2 years after the licence announcement for releases which wouldn't have been striking while the iron was hot. So CDNM was the easiest solution. Couple with that David Richardson's explanation that they'd rather not scrape the barrel when it comes to new monsters...it adds up. I think, honestly, having two Vashta Nerada stories in Vol 2 already suggested the well was running a bit dry as was the use of "new Sontarans" in a story that could just as easily have been the old ones.

There are now plenty of opportunities for New Series monsters to appear in other ranges. The newly announced Jenny boxset have the Ood in it.
So I can understand putting this range on hold, however I do hope that Big Finish can come up with a reason to give us multi-Doctor box sets.

I thought the two Vashta Nerada stories were the best ones in the set.

I'm not talking about the quality of any of the stories - I'm talking about the concepts themselves. If they couldn't go two sets without re-using monsters, it backs up the reasons why David R thinks they should stop at two - because there isn't much depth in that particular well. I'd rather stop while the quality is high than end up with "Tom Baker vs The Shakri" and "Peter Davison takes on the Tivoli".

I'd love to see the often-suggested Classic Doctors, New Companions happen. Or maybe open it up a bit wider by calling it 'Classic Doctors, New Allies'.

Sounds a bit like the Locum Doctors trilogy...and that was pretty poor.

I see what you mean, but I think if stretched to allies you could you get cool combinations like the Jackie Tyler meeting a classic series Doctor one mentioned on here before.

If there's a story behind the gimmick - and not just a "wouldn't it be cool..." - I'm on board.

'Jackie Tyler meets the Fourth Doctor' would practically write itself though.

Or how about "Classic Doctors: The Time War" or something like that? Obviously they can't be entirely aware of a Time War, but maybe we could have it affecting their timelines in some way or the other.

I liked how the Time War seeped into the recent First Doctor Companion Chronicles set. And I liked how the potential for a Time War was portrayed in Empire of the Racnoss. I’d be up for hearing more adventures where it’s subtly cropping up in the Doctor’s past.
On the flip side, I think the clunky dialogue about it in Cold Fusion is exactly how not to do it.
