Hey everyone,
At some point, it will happen. What stories do we think Big Finish will tell?

Well, it's Big Finish, it's unusual for them not to be bloody good. A prospective Twelfth Doctor audio is difficult to gauge because of how fundamentally indefinable his incarnation has been. He's been reinvented at least three times over, going from aloof to quirky to charming in a move that rivals Sylvester's Doctor for the snap changes in characterisations between Season 24 and 25. I'd enjoy seeing them incorporate all three of these interpretations together and smooth out his character, they got very close in The Return of Dr. Mysterio.

I think it'll be 3 Years down the line at least
Hopefully have the courage to create their own companion for him.
Work with him and his agents to get the time to record at least 6 stories a year.

What stories do we think Big Finish will tell? Excellent ones, like they normally do . I'd be mainly interested in A) exploring the gap between S9 and the 2015 Xmas special, there's lots of room for new arcs and companions there B) The 24 years with River on Darillium C) Exploring the gradual 'thaw' in the 12th Doctor's character in more detail and D) The 12th Doctor on his own, Capaldi absolutely carried Heaven Sent. And we could finally get that 8th/12th Dr multi Dr story all the fans have been begging for.

Regards mark687 Well, BF's current license goes up to 2025, so I'd assume they'd only start to negotiate an extension a couple of years before it runs out. Several people on the Big Finish facebook discussion group claimed they asked Capaldi directly at a convention whether he'd be interested in doing Big Finish audios, the answer was no (it might be worth noting, that unlike Tennant and Smith Capaldi hasn't done any of the BBC Audiobooks) though it is unclear if that was a permanent no (opinions can change of course) or simply a desire to distance himself from the role for the forseeable future, he's in his late 50's so probably wants to do other work whilst he's still in high demand from his Who exposure.

They'll be bloody good then. The Capaldi era is my favourite of New Who and I will purchase any and all BF audios featuring the 12th Doctor should they get the rights to Capaldi's Dr and the man himself (I'd probably consider Short trips or CC'S, but he's such a great actor and Doctor something would be lost without his presence), can't wait for the announcement if/when they get the rights to his era. ...But as much as I've enjoyed the Capaldi era it really does feel so far like he's barely got started, S8/9 felt like a first act...and S10 is going to be the end, like they did with Colin and Paul's Doctors BF can have lots of fun exploring the middle, I'm really hoping that should it happen, BF push the 12th (and 11th for that matter) Doctors in new directions, Moffat includes a lot of off screen gaps for a good reason Missy popping up in the UNIT boxsets could be fun as well I suppose.

Well I can the surmise at the moment, Capaldi loves playing the part, someone at the BBC is saying "We lost an average of 2 million viewers cause the plots are too complex and the leads too old". Capaldi's being told by his agents he's still bankable, so I'm sure he'll do several films and 1 off dramas before he accepts a BF approach.

Tennant's super busy (and rumours on GB suggested he largely did the first set as a favour to Nick Briggs, apparently he was much more reluctant to return to the role than he let on), Smith likewise (and he seems keen to break into Hollywood) and Eccleston isn't interested at this point in time.
It would be very ironic if the Doctor they don't have the rights to turns out to be the most likely to do audios...

Part of me wants a Thick Of It special on Brexit... The longer we wait for 12th Dr audios, the more enjoyable the announcement will be...

Well I'm very glad myself it was Donna and 10, perhaps my favourite New Who paring. Though if it was 10 and Rose it would also be good news, as I'd never be tempted to buy those stories and I could put the money towards a different release.

I don't think Peter Capaldi will do them. I've heard before that he has a stance on how fans are milked when it comes to merchandise, presumably the reason why he hasn't done any audiobooks or commentaries. It's a well reasoned and understandable point of view, I think.
I think what appeals to me the most about the Twelfth Doctor's era on Big Finish isn't Peter Capaldi himself - as much as I love him - but various things that make up his era. I'd love to hear the Sandmen, Mire and Boneless explored further, as well as the UNIT sets being advanced further in regards to the timeline. The opportunity to use two Osgood's is irresistible. I imagine it would also pave the way for Paternoster Gang adventures and I'd also love to hear more from Missy.
There's so much to do without Peter Capaldi even needing to record anything at Big Finish.

Yeah that's one of the things I've heard, the BBC is largely publicly funded but people pay a set license fee, the audios is an extra the fans who to shell out for, Capaldi seems happy enough to move on and he might feel uncomfortable about returning to 'fill in the gaps' for purely commercial reasons, on the other hand some of the Titan comics writers and artists have posted on twitter letters they've received from Capaldi complemented them in their work in capturing his likeness. Wouldn't surprise me if Eccleston holds similar views.

Whether or not he does any audios, I think he should listen to some Big Finish. As a long time Doctor Who fan, I think he'd really like them. And it might get him to change his mind down the road.

I bet they'll probably do a 'Legends of Ashildr' spinoff set with Maisie Williams. As for sets featuring the 12th Doctor, there's many gaps in Series 8 they could use inbetween Clara's classes. They could even in theory introduce a new companion for 12. I expect we'll get a follow-up to Sleep No More with the Sandmen (maybe even written by Mark Gatiss himself) and possibly a 'Steven Moffat Presents' set.

Given that he is an avid Big Finish listener, you'd think David Tennant would know that they tend to introduce their own companions and be more open to it.
