Well, they never used the Sixth Doctor in the novel adaptations. That raises a good point. Beyond the Seventh and Fourth Doctors, what other novels from other incarnations do people believe would have served as good adaptations? I reckon they could've gotten a lot of mileage out of an adaptation of Players or The Witch Hunters.

I know its a arc heavy plot with the War arc but its Lance Parkin's homage for the 8th Doctor. I heard one of the former podcast a year ago from Nick and Benji about adepting Ten Little Aliens from Steven Cole. Its the only novel featuring the 1st Doctor with Ben and Polly. It would be fun to hear that in a companion chronicle or early adventure style of storytelling. there are still good novels that could be adepted because of the great era the 90s an begin 00s have done even Doctor Who was off-air. And adepting Cold Fusion was their best work yet. So finishing the Novel Adaptation was a hasty decision.

The other issue I suspect is that there seems to be a lot of crossover between Doctor Who novel readers and Big Finish buyers, perhaps even higher than expected, and so if the choice is between buying a brand new story, or an adaptation of one which they are already familiar with, then most folks would probably choose the former, rather than the latter. Pretty much so... in my case anyway. I have read every Doctor Who novel that Big Finish have adapted, and some audio adaptations of those novels just didn't appeal to me as worthy purchases. New stories are always more preferable.

For me, it's simple. BF already puts out more than I can buy anyway. I already have and have read all the Virgin books. Why pay for an adaptation of a story that I've already read rather than get something new? If I ever caught up on all the Big Finish that I'm interested in, I can definitely see myself listening to these, but not until then.

I finally reached a point this year where I simply can't afford to buy everything DW related that BF put out anymore so even if they had continued I would have stoped buying them. I know it's not entirely their fault but the toning down of some of the stories, particularly 'Damaged Goods' didn't sit well with me, since I doubt there's very many children who'll ever hear them.

That's interesting to hear. I haven't read the book, but I thought the Audio was utterly brilliant. Such a tonal shift from the usual BF stuff and one of Sylvester's best performances.

That's interesting to hear. I haven't read the book, but I thought the Audio was utterly brilliant. Such a tonal shift from the usual BF stuff and one of Sylvester's best performances. Johnny Morris's adaptation is fascinating to listen to having read the original book. I've heard people say that Nightshade is a dark tale, but I don't think that's really accurate. Nightshade is a nostalgic story (rather fitting, given its subject matter) and one that feels right at home with those last couple stories on television. The same ethos of moodiness, just with the BBC production values stripped away. It also has a personal victory of sorts for the Seventh Doctor, it's the pendulum shift that really starts off the New Adventures. It's grim with real people who suffer real consequences, but not dark. Damaged Goods, on the other hand, is genuinely bleak. Morris is a great deal more merciful than Davies was when he wrote the novel. The Capper sets himself on fire rather than throws himself from the building, the drug in question isn't SMILE but cocaine, Gabriel is in a coma by the end and Roz inadvertently kills Bev when the floor gives way and she lands on top of her. It's good, but it's not fun and I think it's one of the darkest novels in the range. Its tone reminded me a lot of Edge of Darkness when I first read it, certainly a far cry from something like The Highest Science or Night of the Living Dad.

So Goth Opera & Blood Harvest audio adaptions not going to happen anytime soon then. Blood Harvest's a bit of a disappointing loss because Big Finish seemed perfect for it. The only problems there were the E-Space additions: change the clones to a different coterie of vampires, make it the descendants of the original villagers and the rest is golden.

I say Give it to Titan comics to adapt as there 7th Doctor series

Yeah it I were to pick 5 EDA's for adaptation (though I haven't read all of them) it would probably be The Scarlet Empress, City Of The Dead, Father Time, Alien Bodies and The Year Of Intelligent Tigers

I've done so much talking about this range it's probably time I actually got round to buying a few more, will probably get both sets and I always seem to miss the LATE special edition sale so I'll probably grab that as well...

LATE is a must Cheers Tony I've already got the download (I think it was like the third or fourth BF story I listened to, and it's one of my favourites, not a grounbreaking story by any means but a whole lot of fun, really want another 4th/8th Doctor team up at some point) but I've never got round to buying the special edition...

I've read most of the novels that were made into audio, except for the Fourth Doctor ones, but I still found it interesting to listen to the dramatizations and the changes that needed to be made to make the books work on audio. I don't think one precludes the other.

I hope it would be possible to put Chris and Roz in the main range Yes that could be fun (and should happen i.m.o) though, I'm still wondering why Raine hasn't made more appearances yet. (More Frobisher, Mary Shelley and Fitz Kriener stories would be most welcome as well hint hint )
