Liked it quite a bit.
Tired of the Missy stuff. Season would have been just fine without it.

Empress, with the +7 numbers now added, was the most watched thing on telly - on any channel - from last Saturday. #WhatCrisis?

Empress, with the +7 numbers now added, was the most watched thing on telly - on any channel - from last Saturday. #WhatCrisis? Very good news. I haven't watched a single episode of this series at the time of broadcast, it's a different world now from when the family all sat down to watch '70s 'Who' together. We HAD to - be there or miss an episode and miss it forever (as we thought pre-VHS). An especially good episode like 'Empress of Mars' probably gains significant audience share over time from friends' recommendations sending people to iPlayer if they missed it. When I was young, next Monday at school would have been 'Oh didn't you see it? It was brilliant...' (followed by lurid descriptions of just how brilliant and monster-filled the episode you had missed had been...) Friends!

I am in awe of this episode - not only an excellent Ice Warriors story, but between Gatiss and Gomez both being so brilliant here, they managed to redeem the whole idea of Missy for me. I could hardly be happier or more impressed.

Did we ever find out why the TARDIS left Mars?

Did we ever find out why the TARDIS left Mars? Nope, could be it was a crucial point in time so it removed itself or maybe the Doctor forgot to put the handbrake on.

Poor man and his voodoo sharks. Or untranslatable popes Infortunatus, sed verum. Still, at least these problems aren't as large a hurdle to reconcile as something like Asylum of the Daleks or The Name of the Doctor ( Asylum is particularly hard given what later occurs in The Magician's Apprentice). Actually, going a little off-topic, it's a shame that (really poor designs aside) the New Dalek Paradigm was basically discarded as an idea after Victory of the Daleks. It would've been interesting to see the five pop up occasionally in the manner of Servalan and Travis from Blake's 7 and be given their own story arc revolving around the development of a new Skaro. *sigh* Such a waste...
