That was some of my favourite stuff! Missy deciding once and for all to become good then dying before she gets the chance, Nardole leaving to save a community knowing they're only postponing their deaths not stopping them, Bill's lovely ending with Heather, Capaldi's speeches just knocking it out the park, Murray Gold's cues.....10/10 does't cover how much I loved that. I do worry how we'll get closure for Nardole. The Cybermen are still coming. Unless Missy does take them all away in her TARDIS to kickstart Dark Water. Actually yes, I like that. Nardole can live for ever in peace. Cough *Big Finish spinoff series* Cough

Not saying it was bad...it just kinda felt like the script took a turn in a completely different tonal direction with no build up, this was not the part II I had been expecting, will have to take some time to clear my thoughts more fully on this I did think Bill's ending was an appropriate one (if slightly lessened by the absence of puddle girl since the first episode and far too reminiscent of Hell Bent), slightly dissapointed we didn't see Simm regenerate... Yes, if Puddle Girl had turned up a couple times during the season it would have worked better. Maybe with her calling out to Bill trying to lure her away from Doctor Who.

Notice how Missy was very vague about whether she followed directly on from Simm. Moffat is leaving Big Finish gaps again.

Though it does raise the question of whether Bill's foster mum will ever find out what happened to her...

Moffat must go stay!
Dammit, why can't he write like that normally?!
(Not sure that David Bradley looks enough like William Hartnell. I hope that Phil Morris has found the last episode of "The Tenth Planet" so we can work out when the Christmas Special takes place!)

Nardole can live for ever in peace. And Missy got to do her good deed by mopping up after regenerating. Speaking of which, despite whatever the Master said, I hope a new incarnation of the Master will be back in a few years. That's one of the coolest things - Nardole and the kids are still in mortal danger. No hint of a big reset for that. I guess we can revisit that....I'd kind of like not to. It's lovely to have a true no-win scenario where even The Doctor realises sometimes winning just means postponing losing.

Maybe I am being a thicko, but was the 12th Doctor's attitude to regeneration implying he wanted to die at last, or simply was comfortable in his body and refusing to regenerate out of arrogance?
Or a bit of both?

Poor Nardole stuck looking after a load of smelly humans for all eternity, there isn't even anything decent for him to steal.

Mind you, that trailer for Wimbledon that followed the episode looked at bit familiar, as well, and I don't just mean because the TARDIS was in it. Anyone remember this? youtu.be/qe3e5kmtduc?t=114

I thought he sounded better than in AAISAT. But now he's playing The Doctor, not Hartnell so I guess he had to do different homework. Hurndall looked naff all like Bill H either but had a bit of the spirit - that's all that's needed.

Oh, and a World Shapers reference - who the hell saw THAT coming? To reference Sixth Doctor comics explicitly and ensure Spare Parts isn't overridden in one paragraph...thanks Moff.

ok what did I really think, I am trying to process it all and how I feel.
firstly I went from loving it to hating it about 10 times during the hour.
Bill's (Pearl's) performance was outstanding and the change perspective of her being a cyberman worked a treat.
Nardole was just a joy to watch but I hated all the computer and weapons upgrade stuff that felt, one step too far for me.
John Sim was just wasted apart from the one scene where he taunted Bill....Heart-breaking and cruel. I am not sure what to make of the double cross stuff, is that really the end? If it is great a proper send off but if not, the redemption stuff will feel wrong and hollow, I think this a something only time will tell.
capaldi's performance was the biggest issue for me, he was touching and brilliant when talking to Bill, but icky delivering the stand with me speech. His goodbye to Nardole was great but the dying and awakening stuff ...narh not buying it.
do I like "The Pilot" undecided, while I am glad the reset button was used, & am glad bill could return, it was a tiny bit of a stretch to fully go with it.
so on the whole it was a great episode, better than I thought it would be and that final scene.....the Fanboy in me is so excited now. looks like marco polo to me.......now I have only struggled through the audio and remember little about it but anyone know if there is a gap where it could be set?

And a new Master? I'm hoping that the rumours of Chris Marshall being a new Master and not a new Doctor are true.

I don't think we'll be getting a new Master right away.

Oh, and a World Shapers reference - who the hell saw THAT coming? To reference Sixth Doctor comics explicitly and ensure Spare Parts isn't overridden in one paragraph...thanks Moff. Eh? That past me by... The Doctor reveals that the reason the Cybermen have so many home worlds - Mondas, Telos, Planet 14, Marinus - is because they spontaneously evolve there from foolish humanoids as part of a regular pattern of behaviour. I have to say, I rather like this as an explanation - tricky things, big continuity things in a single throwaway line, normally it would be irritating, but I think the Moff pulled it off. Still... David Bradley, eh? The biggest shock appearance of any (effectively) outside character in any BBC show since - oh, last night. Anyone else spot they changed the running order of "Count Arthur Strong" so that last night was an episode guest starring JOHN SHUTTLEWORTH?!!! Earlier Doctors? Pah!

That past me by... When he's talking about Cybermen not having one set origin, that they happen over and over as an inevitability, he mentions meeting them on Marinus. Which he did...in The World Shapers.
