And a new Master? I'm hoping that the rumours of Chris Marshall being a new Master and not a new Doctor are true. Yuk, I don't want him in either role. But them both stabbing each other in the back was fantastic.

Was it directly stated Missy is straight after Simm? Or has Moffat left another gap for BF?

Maybe I am being a thicko, but was the 12th Doctor's attitude to regeneration implying he wanted to die at last, or simply was comfortable in his body? Both, I'd say. He was sick of just running away and changing faces to hide the dark days. It was a lovely sequence so well acted. Yes but cheapens nearly every speech prior in the Ep almost, but aside from that and there was still nothing to indicate why Missy was open to change in the 1st place ie let herself be caught and be put in the Doctor's judgement, otherwise it is a brilliant EP.

You can't just have a new Master after Missy's death, would totally detract. Like Smith, wouldn't be surprised if the next Doc doesn't get "their own" Master. And, yeah, Chris Marshall will be free to play the part since Kris Marshall will be The Doctor.

When he's talking about Cybermen not having one set origin, that they happen over and over as an inevitability, he mentions meeting them on Marinus. Which he did...in The World Shapers. *Tinfoil hat theory time, maybe it's a hint at BF's upcoming comic strip adaptation

I don't think we'll be getting a new Master right away. Yep. I think the character will go into semi-retirement for a while.

Was it directly stated Missy is straight after Simm? Or has Moffat left another gap for BF? Simm's Master reckoned that was the case, and Missy's supposedly vague memories ended up with a firm affirmation that he would turn into her. But, hell, if the Doctor lies, why should we take the Master's word for gospel? (I mean, we aren't going to believe that rubbish about no point her trying to regenerate? We could very easily have *both* incarnations make incredible escapes and have them return to battle the Doctor in the future.)

That's true, but I feel this was a great permanent ending to the Master, being stabbed in the back by himself after finally turning back towards the Doctor's friendship, regenerating Missy after this will ruin some of the impact I think...

Well she was stuck in that cell for decades (perhaps even centuries) plenty of time to brood over her past actions.

I hope he does a good job, as frankly I find him atrocious in almost everything I've ever seen him in. I'll reserve judgment.

So you don't think Missy didn't remember her "death" at the hands of her predecessor? Unlikely. She was prepared for that, and the moment was foreshadowed by the scene with the demat circuit.

I had preconceived notions of him till I saw his Death In Paradise eps and he was often quite wonderful and able to balance drama and comedy very, very well. I've not got a dog in the race, really, none of the main contenders massively excite nor worry me. I'd still be banging the drum for Chiwitel Ejifor but he's not gonna do 10 months a year in Cardiff's night rain

I read somewhere suggestions he couldn't agree to a fee and/or was worried that he'd be thought of as the Black Doctor, rather than a Doctor who happened to be black, no idea if that is true, but he'd make a fantastic Doctor (though I doubt the BBC could afford him anymore).

What does that matter though, storytelling wise? The story requirement was that she be held prisoner. It doesn't really matter the whys and wherefores. Being economical with the story comes first before having to fill gaps that don't actually need filling.

Good question, probably just wanted to prove she could escape and point out she was better than him or something

Well, Patterson Joseph was the odds-on favourite overwhelmingly one day before Matt was announced so I think he's the one Moffat referenced when saying the role had been offered to a black actor. Chiwitel would be a dream but hey - I got my dream casting with Capaldi who was top of my list for years so I shouldn't be greedy.
