Well, he's not been cast yet! I had preconceived notions of him till I saw his Death In Paradise eps and he was often quite wonderful and able to balance drama and comedy very, very well. I've not got a dog in the race, really, none of the main contenders massively excite nor worry me. I'd still be banging the drum for Chiwitel Ejifor but he's not gonna do 10 months a year in Cardiff's night rain Get Chiwitel to play the master x That'll do for me!

No why did she get caught and wait for the Doctor in the 1st place why not try and escape before he arrives?

What does that matter though, storytelling wise? The story requirement was that she be held prisoner. It doesn't really matter the whys and wherefores. Being economical with the story comes first before having to fill gaps that don't actually need filling. It doesn't matter its a case of personal Fan quirkiness

Wasn't Ejifor rumoured to be one of the final choices for the 11th Doctor? I read somewhere suggestions he couldn't agree to a fee and/or was worried that he'd be thought of as the Black Doctor, rather than a Doctor who happened to be black, no idea if that is true, but he'd make a fantastic Doctor (though I doubt the BBC could afford him anymore). Well, Patterson Joseph was the odds-on favourite overwhelmingly one day before Matt was announced so I think he's the one Moffat referenced when saying the role had been offered to a black actor. Chiwitel would be a dream but hey - I got my dream casting with Capaldi who was top of my list for years so I shouldn't be greedy. Well if it wasn't for the fact that he's earning serious money and has signed for a third season of Lucifer I'd have loved to have seen Tom Ellis in the role. They want a Tennant-alike? There you go. Plus he's got the chops.

Lynch is back directing. I'm dreaming of an episode of Who directed by him, especially after watching Ep 8 of Twin Peaks the Return.

Well she was stuck in that cell for decades (perhaps even centuries) plenty of time to brood over her past actions. No why did she get caught and wait for the Doctor in the 1st place why not try and escape before he arrives?

Dunno. None of us know the circumstances leading up to that...

And kudos to Nick Briggs, getting to take over the BBC continuity announcing for the ep! That was a nice little easter egg our overseas friends won't get, I guess.

Maybe I am being a thicko, but was the 12th Doctor's attitude to regeneration implying he wanted to die at last, or simply was comfortable in his body and refusing to regenerate out of arrogance? Or a bit of both? Definitely came across as the latter to me.

If it is the latter, its quite fitting he's being partnered with the 1st Doctor (not a stranger to a bit of arrogance himself), perhaps they both help each other ease themselves into regenerating.

Yeah, from what the first Doc was saying, echoing Capaldi's line about not being willing to change, I think Capaldi's Doc will in turn teach and then learn from his earlier self's example. Hartnell's lack of dialogue in Tenth Planet 4 will be an advantage here, there's nothing to worry about contradicting.
Prediction: Capaldi will tell Bradley "Life depends on change and renewal."

mark687 I've said it a million times, there's a specific type of fan who still has PTSD from the 80s and thinks Grade and Powell are hiding under their beds.

Keeping it simple; what a rollercoaster of a ride! Brilliant episode, one of the best Doctor Who episodes ever... 10/10.

I loved the way that they kept Bill a Cyberman, but also had Pearl acting.
This is the first Moffat 'not-death' that I have been happy with, I didn't want to see Bill go.

Don't get the love for this episode. Felt like the masters were just tagged on. The doctors big speeches were nonsense rubbish. The cyber man menace seemed pointless. The final fight was also utter bobbins. I'll dance among the cyber men flicking my sonic about and then blow the whole level up with just doc and Bill surviving. Just bloody run away.
Water Bill was okay but could have done with more preshadowing through the season.
The refusal to regenerate seemed to come out of nowhere as well.
At least there were some excellent bits. Bill as cyberman was played perfectly. Master v Master was good.
A question though. What killed the doctor? He was already regenerating long before the final battle. Was it Missy who did for him?

That wasn't a final fight per se, it was the Doctor keeping the cybermen busy long enough for the others to get away, running away would mean the others would be caught.
