Purves is a much better than Russell. not that Russell is bad, but his doctor & narration voice are not that distinct. but I would be happy for a recast for 1st & 2nd docs, it works well for 3rd doc & would rather have full cast for all eras. we cannot bring them back to play the doctor as much as I would like too, so I can accept a stand in Funny... I feel the opposite way. To me, Russell sounds closer to Hartnell. Oh well. Anyway, I'd rather just stay with the people we have until one or both doesn't feel like doing it any more. Would be a bit odd to have three different people trying to sound like Hartnell.... We already have at least five people doing their Hartnells. I've not heard the new Companion Chronicle set yet so it could even be six. What's one more - especially when that one is an actual First Doctor.

David Bradley, and anyone else who didn't originate a Doctor or Companion, will always be "doing their Hartnell" as it were. The Doctors in that way are more like actual historical people than fictional characters. If this was James Bond or Hamlet we'd never be having this discussion. You don't get to do your own thing when you play one of the Doctors AFTER the originator. So definitely never a replacement.
If they had gone the traditional route of replacing Hartnell with Troughton and hadn't come up with the whole renewal gubbins then we'd be in a weird state if the show was still running, wouldn't we?

I don't get the CCs, so I wouldn't know if others imitated Hartnell. I suppose I better take another look at the full cast ones I have, but I only recall Purves and Russell. Are you counting CCS, the Unbound where he never left Gallifrey, etc?

Carole Ann Ford, Peter Purves, William Russell, Maureen O'Brian, Anneke Wills and Eliot Chapman would have all done their version of Hartnell in the various Companion Chronicles.

Of all of those, only Purves and Russell were reasonable, and Russell has retired from working so I don't see any more coming from him. Ford, Eills and Chapman's impressions may be enough for a companion chronicle, but for Early Adventures we're going to be really restricted next year.

No argument on that. I was just answering the question about who else had read for Hartnell in the CCs.

Bit of potential gossip from Twitter: *** @georgebaker47 #dwsr David Bradley finishes filming tomorrow! @dannylavery9 can't we lock him in the studio with some actors and a camera and make him do some missing episodes? @georgebaker47 Replying to @dannylavery9 He’ll be in another studio soon, for doctor who 😉 can’t say much more than that *** If not Big Finish then maybe a BBC audiobook? Or animation?! They don't need to do the missing episodes on audio of course because we have the soundtracks

I'm guessing either Big Finish or BBC audiobook.

Hopefully Big Finish, but I wouldn't say no to animation. I remember back in 2013 there was a proposed animated series by Dan Norton (ThunderCats remake). I wish that would've been made.

But I think it would've been great as a webcast; little 20min/half hour adventures with the classic Doctors, released each week (or whatever) between TNotD and TDotD. Alas, it never happened. But I liked the concept. Still, I think it would be a great way to promote the Christmas special, by releasing a few 5min or so episodes (6? Thus creating a half hour serial) in their usual advent calendar, although I'm not holding out any hope.

I can just see them gently closing the door to their workstation behind them, crossing over to their coordinator, grabbing them by the lapels and whispering with a shudder -- "I have lost all objective sense of colour... What even is red, huh? WHAT EVEN IS RED?"

Although personally, I don't think you can find a better depiction of that blue coat than the smooth navy blues and blacks imagined by Paul Hanley. Marvellous bit of imagining there.

The style reminds me of something, but for the life of me, I can't figure out what that is. Maybe it's Paul Johnson's attempt at doing an anime version of the show with the Third Doctor.

It was... interesting to see, to say the least
