Quite right! As one of the tabloids put it in the 1980s: ' No hanky-panky in the TARDIS!' I like Tom Baker's idea that the Doctor has a certain innocent detachment, as seen in 'The Pirate Planet'. When he can't get any of the locals to talk to him, but Romana immediately can, K-9 explains: "She is much prettier than you are, master." And the Doctor says, in total surprise: " Is she?" That always made me cringe. K9, reducing Romana to "pretty". Urghh. How is assigning an attribute reducing? How would it be any different to saying "She is more intelligent than you are" or "She is more aggressive than you are" and so on? If my examples are not reducing, yet saying "prettier" is then is anyone who has ever been called pretty reduced just by that alone? Or is it the comparison with the Doctor? Because if its the comparison with the Doctor, it seems to me that it is the Doctor that is reduced, as he is the one lacking the attribute.

I think Bradley Walsh being the companion is going to be the reason why I 'quit' the show...

I think Bradley Walsh being the companion is going to be the reason why I 'quit' the show... My thoughts, especially as it doesn't seem to have been officially announced yet (which in itself is ... strange), is that he might be playing an occasional companion, a bit like Nardole was this latest series. Or even as irregular as Kate Stewart or Osgood. I can't see him as a regular TARDIS traveller somehow. But then I'm always wrong about most things - or mostly wrong about everything!

That can't be true, otherwise you'd be right. But if that was wrong, then what you're saying is wrong, because it's right. But it isn't right, because you have to be wrong. But...

I think Bradley Walsh being the companion is going to be the reason why I 'quit' the show... Wait a few years and the show will be different again, that's Doctor Who. What exactly about the casting don't you like?

It's been confirmed that he's not leaving any of his ITV shows but at the same time it seems an odd thing to pop up out of nowhere. What if he's playing the father of the actual companion? So he'll appear in a few ratings-boosting episodes but not as a full-time gig.

He hasn't even had an episode yet ffs Maybe, but at least I'm not quitting over Jodie Whitaker... I'm sure he's fine, but i just really can't see him 'in' the show. (Though if he is, just give me time...).

What exactly about the casting don't you like? Of course. I don't know, I really don't... If he is cast, I'll give it a shot, but can't guarantee that he'll warm on me... To be honest? Looking at his IMDB I'm actually surprised he has any acting credits (I thought he'd only done game-shows). If Jodie can warm on me during the course of an evening, I'm sure that he'll (eeeeeventually) warm on me, if cast, of course.

Bradley Walsh also once played a character named...Steven Taylor. It's like Capaldi playing the W.H.O. Doctor in World War Z all over again. It's a sign from the universe I tells ya!

Huh, did NOT know he played the piper in 'Day Of The Clown! I've just got back from work & don't think I have time to watch it this evening, but will try to give it a shot tomorrow!

Ugh multiple companions. No thanks. There's simply not enough screen time for all these characters. Writers had a hard time with so many companions during the Fifth Doctor era and they had longer stories.

Wow, they really did get Bradley Walsh. That's amazing given how much money he makes from ITV.

I'm down. I prefer a bigger TARDIS team, as opposed to just one companion - the Eleven/Amy/Rory/River and Twelve/Bill/Nardole teams were fun, so it'll be interesting to see this new team in action.
