Hello again.
Can we please keep it civil. Usually, things are respectful, and so this is the only forum I contribute to. Strong opinions are all very well but insulting each other gets us nowhere. During the past 27 years that I have been entitled to vote I have voted for all the main parties and for a variety of reasons. I do not like huge majorities, weak oppositions or sleazy administrations. So, this time I voted against Messrs Johnson, Raab,Gove, Rees-Mogg et al and for Labour as the party of Jess Phillips, Keir Starmer, Angela Rayner and Lisa Nandy.
You are quite right Johnhurtdoctor, we do need to keep Boris Johnson to his promises. Resistance takes many forms. I am just as angry at the state of this country. We need to engage with both parties, to remind the Tories of their promises and to challenge Labour to come up with realistic solutions to the problems facing this country. I have been an interested observer for years, but no more. I shall be finding a way to engage with politics in some way.
As for the constitutional ramifications of Thursday's vote and the forthcoming exit from the EU. Poor old Wales has been forgotten, just lumped in with England. Scotland must at some point be given the opportunity to decide it's future as the referendum result of 2014 was Yes on the assumption that the UK stayed in the EU. It is Northern Ireland that has been left out in the cold, their new politicians need to work together to bring back local decision-making.
Your tagline JHD, reminds me of some graffiti emblazoned on a wall in Bridgwater, "STATE FED LIES CHARM EMPTY EYES." Take care all, and think before you tpye your thoughts!

Can i suggest some of the more active posters on all sides of the political spectrum remind themselves of the forum rules. In particular the respect and soapboxing at the beginning

Can i suggest some of the more active posters on all sides of the political spectrum remind themselves of the forum rules. In particular the respect and soapboxing at the beginning Thanks Tony. I hope I've been respectful and not 'soapboxing'? Genuine question because I'm not sure who else from the centre-right side of the political spectrum is particularly active on this thread, so can't think who else on this 'side' you might mean? I do at least think I try to behave

Hello again.
I am centrish, identifying with both right and left policies. Generally, a fan of a bit of old-fashioned consensus politics. Although, not afraid of radical solutions if there are well-reasoned arguments and independent research behind them.
I certainly believe in fair and transparent government for everyone in the UK. I also believe that a proper separation of powers between government, Parliament and the judiciary is essential. Also, Parliament is supreme in our democracy not government.
Sorry about the lecture, in another life I was a law student, some of my constitutional law lectures must have sunk in while I was nodding off at the back of the lecture theatre!!

Where's John (Roddy Piper) Neda when you need him. Who's he? You ever get the chance watch John Carpenter's They Live.

According to Wikipedia, the new co-leader of the Lib Dems, Baroness Brinton, worked as a floor manager on Dr Who in the 1970s. Maybe the more devoted fans than me already knew this, but it is news to me.
Has she been on a Toby Hadoke's Who's Round?

She’s not the only one with a Who connection in the House of Lords, Baron Cashman played Bilton in Time-Flight-en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Cashman

I’m broadly the same. A centrist willing to vote for any main party if I think their proposals are sensible and their leadership credible. I’ve been a bit disappointed with past few years of politics to say the least.

The older I get the more socialist I become. There you go. Colours nailed to the mast. I think I get along with most of the centreish/rightish people on here though.

I guess I am broadly left, but not the Jeremy Corbyn/Momentum nonsense. I could never ever vote Tory.

(*cough* Momentum?) I'm fairly sure I can still play 'spot the placard' at demos (as seen on TV, I hasten to add. Not really my scene... ) Anyway, printed papers are so 'dead media'
