A man on a galloping horse, etc...
I think it looks really good. If we'd have got that from the beginning, it would still have been a lucrative release. The booklet is still high quality, the TARDIS backdrop is the reverse cover and of course all the discs are as is. I don't think it will retain consistency forever, though; as soon as we get to the 60s seasons they'll be twice the size. The square photo of the Doctor on the spine works better than the stretched version on the limited edition sets, though. As more releases come out, the slightly varying widths of the LE sets are bothering me less; it's looking like quite the encyclopaedic collection and that helps compensate for the bulky sets. Although it's worth noting every single one is considerably slimmer than the individual stories of the DVD range!

Having finished all of the stories in Season 8 now, I think the colour quality definitely dips on Axos 2 & 3 and all of Colony. Would that be why those episodes are also included in their standard definition versions? (I was a bit confused why they'd include the DVD versions before watching the HD episodes, though I'm even more confused as to why they'd include the 2005 DVD versions of the Axos episodes and not their Special Edition versions). Those stories' original DVD releases had some or all episodes as Reverse Standards Conversions, which are softer but have exactly the original motion from the 50Hz PAL video. The default versions on BD (and the SE of Axos) have these episodes as 25fps b/w film recordings, VidFIREd back to 50Hz, with the colour overlaid from the RSCs. This is sharper, but VidFIRE (as with all motion estimation) isn't perfect. Fast motion can cause the motion estimation algorithm to make mistakes which causes parts of the picture to judder or ripple. Some people don't notice or mind this, so they prefer the newer versions. Others find the VidFIRE artefacts very annoying, so prefer the original RSC versions. I'm in the latter camp, and I'm very glad they include both versions on the BDs. Inferno is in a similar situation, and will hopefully have its 2006 RSC restoration as an extra when Season 7 comes out. I hope in vain that the eventual BDs of 60s seasons might have non-VidFIREd 25fps alternative versions on the discs, as all surviving stories from this era come from film recordings, and I find the VidFIRE artefacts distracting there too.

Well this is splendid - such a pity it is likely to remain fairly unique. I would happily pay a tenner for the trouble of obtaining a copy (sans discs, natch) but it likely would not be worth his time....

The traditional one week delay has been announced - S24 is now June 28th rather than 21st. What's a week though? Too late to be anything content related, usually just the actual production of the physical product when it's a very short delay. Given the unique nature of the design of these...understandable.

Isn't this nice to see? The top 3 bluray pre-orders on Amazon UK as of this minute... Interesting about the re-releases being so quickly released now. They announced these S10 and S18 standards for release only 6 weeks after the initial two of S12 and S19 came out in late May, with these in early July. It took a year for the same 4 to come out on the LE sets so I'd wager that rather than increase the limited edition print run, they'll just put these standards out a lot faster, given how quickly they're now catching up. If S23 and S26 follow in the next few months, that'll confirm that. After all, these are cheaper to produce and don't cost much less to the customer at all so it's in BBCWW's best interests to get them out ASAP to avoid scalpers. Essentially they'll do what Arrow, Indicator and Eureka do in the bluray boutique world - "Limited sold out, Standard to follow soon". They're halfway house too - they've not made them as bare as the US/CA ones - they do all have slipcovers, a booklet (shorted from the LE version, essentially with the disc contents and some artwork) and individual artwork. So they've not gone as cheap as I thought they might by just making what the North American versions are. Someone has hopefully pointed out every scalped copy (and some will still go to scalpers for the "best" version) is a sale lost, I'd imagine. Otherwise there's no need for 4 re-releases in just over a month. But if I had to guess - and I've guessed quite well with this range - then when they catch up with the re-releases, there will be a much, much shorter window between the Limited selling out and the standard being released. Again though - how nice to see Who as all of the top 3 pre-orders.

Isn't this nice to see? The top 3 bluray pre-orders on Amazon UK as of this minute... With the rate these re-released are being released now as standard editions, I think the gap between the LE selling out and a standard edition will be all but gone in the near future. There's no real reason for it now they know fans will support the range anyway. Some will want the "best" edition but for those who don't have the cash on hand or who maybe just don't love an era they've made the standards still very nice - still a nice thick box, a slipcover, slimmed down book and art (essentially with disc contents) and individual disc art. The last two puzzle me. I get some like the North American sets for space reasons. But surely a contents list is something that should be standard? Why the Region A ones don't get one is beyond me. Not every extra relates directly to the story so I can imagine some shoving discs in looking for things that are elsewhere, or having to google just to find something. When even the standard UK release gives a booklet for contents, surely the US/CA ones could give something? Just seems like extreme penny pinching. I was quite astonished when someone posted they stopped including them after the first few sets. And disc art may not be important at all to some but I like that the Region B sets (well, the UK ones, I can't remember for Australia) have unique art for each disc relating to the story. I mean it is art..it's been designed. Seems a shame not to use it. Is it really cheaper just reprinting the cover art? Again though...how cool to see Who as all three of the top spots for bluray pre-orders. When you think that Russell Minton and co practically begged people from the UK to buy Season 12 as it was a big gamble and it needed to work or we wouldn't see more. Within months the only gamble became how quickly to order or you might miss out. Took BBCWW by surprise. I posted an article at the turn of the year about physical media in the UK sales wise and these sets, alongside Jodie's S12, were accounting for a big chunk of the market in 2020.

Just as I was wondering above and silly things like that I like to know! Of course you can import these but having now dealt with Australian Post 3 times this year I think I'd rather cut off my thumbs than deal with them for much more than anything domestic. The single worst export postage service I've ever dealt with.

Not exaggerating, 3 orders from there this year and the fastest delivery was 2 months to Scotland. Audio Watchdog got the same to the US. We're both trying to support Imprint Films who are doing some AMAZING things. Exclusive Hammer bluray content with Kim Newman doing commentaries, world premieres on blu of the 50s War Of The Worlds, Paul Thomas Anderson's Hard 8, Bad News Bears, Black Sunday, The Duellists, Sorry Wrong Number, A Place In The Sun, No Way To Treat A Lady and other classics and cult faves. An AMAZING label and I like to support boutiques direct as I do with Arrow, Indicator, Severin, the BFI and others but 3 orders all taking that long, when the postage ain't cheap? Ouch. I ordered a CD from Japan last Tuesday and it came today. What's the story with Aus mail? Do you know Imprint stuff? Do you see it in shops there? viavision.com.au/shop/category/imprint-films/?sort=newest

The CEO decided to give himself a yearly pay of like $10 million or something ridiculous? 1 of the staff below him, she decided to "gift" about 10 Executives with a fancy watch worth Thousands.. It escalated up to Parliament and the Aussie Prime Minister ripping into her during Parliament Time I believe.. Aussie Post price$ for everything is escalating and the level of service is decreasing.. I have waited 7 days for 2 separate cd packages within Australia.. Hopefully it's in my PO Box today. ! Have you checked www.jbhifi.com.au Davy? I don;t think I have seen what you are after just off the top of my head..

Amazon have dispatched Season 24 I've just got a message saying July 14th is when mine will arrive 😧 Same here. I really don't understand their business plan. They must know they can sell twice as many copies as they produce. It's like they want people to be scalping them for 5-10 times the price.

Hang on so the Standard Edition re-issues can be dispatched within a week but Season 24 might take as long as 2 months. This Range's PR and delivery is diabolical.
