Thanks for that!! Lovely Susanne Freytag as well. She was one of only two original members to contribute to their curious second album 1,2,3,4 - which I actually rather liked. It's a shame they all fell out with each other. I had an interest in Claudia's Act, er, act (Snobbery and Decay remains an amazing song) and OneTwo with Paul Humphreys - but Propaganda will always be the pinnacle.
To get back on topic. Today I learned ... that the first cut won't hurt at all !!
(But yes - regarding YouTube and the internet as a whole. How did we exist without it?)
Pleased you enjoyed it - always worth doing a search now and again. I tend to bookmark things like that to save looking up again. I bought the second album myself about 1995 as one of my first CD's. Ministry of Fear was probably the closest to the first album, but it was quite good in its own right, though much of it has dated compared to the way the first album is of its own time. But yes - Susanne Freytag was always very easy on the eye, though Claudia Brücken had style herself that comes across better in the performances. I will look up the references you make to her other works... Its a pity that the HD version of P Machinery is no longer available but it is still a stylish video even in low res: Wonderful stuff! Let me know what you think of 'Snobbery and Decay' 😃

That they’re doing a sequel to The Railway Children with Jenny Agutter reprising her role from the original.
Wouldn’t have been my first choice of film to get a sequel but I guess this is just the norm now.

She's a veteran of the property - played Roberta twice in 68 and 70, and then played the Mother in the 2000 ITV version with Richard Attenborough. If she's involved, maybe it's the sign of something good?

OMG, this is absolutely amazing and exciting! Most exciting science article I have seen in months. I wonder if it really is parasites transmitting new genes and that would make parasites in the ecosystem (and for evolution!) even more valuable and important than they already are! Also, this could revolutionize new treatments. Jaw meets floor. (not sure who on this forum will be able to appreciate this, since I am a parasitologist now working at a molecular genetics department at a lab... but let me tell you, this is a HUGE deal)
Edit: And I hereby present myself as an even greater nerd than previously thought...

This is great news.. science fact. when presented with new evidence the "belief system" changes once its fully supported. This is futuristic sci-fi stuff happening now

Only this has been going on for millions of years. And only now we are catching on. But I can see a whole host of opportunities and applications as soon as we know how this works.

That Peter Davison was apparently leading two sitcoms at the same time he was filming Who.
Give the man his dues he certainly knew how to keep busy...

Bridge over The River Kwai and Planet of the Apes were written by the same man, Pierre Boulle.

One of the original meanings of the word "outlaw" actually has a few other connotations beyond straightforward criminality. An outlaw was someone quite literally "outside of the law". In a very real and legal sense. They weren't protected by the justice system in the same way that other citizens were. So, if anyone robbed, cheated or harmed them, they couldn't turn to the police or courts for aid. They were very much on their own. Puts a whole new spin on the old legends of bandits and outlaws, doesn't it?

About sixteen years too late but alright, I’ll bite.

What's odd is that Radio 4 only did a sequel, with Bernard Cribbins reprising his original role, a month or so back.

Today I learned that the carat is just a measure of mass. 200 milligrams. I always assumed it measured something more distinctive, not just another way of slicing up existing measurements. Unquestionably the biggest disappointment of my life.

One of the best things for me about Youtube has been the steady release of rare footage of bands such as Propaganda. Some really good videos get removed due to copyrights or replaced with inferior recordings, but some really showcase how they could play live very well indeed. Its a pity that the euro version of Frozen Faces seems to have vanished and there is only a VHS transfer of a mimed performance from The Tube, but the Rotterdam concert is brilliant. Just as good out of the studio: Edit: come to think of it, I have the original album on Vinyl in the collection somewhere....pretty low quality 80's thin grade pressing so no benefit playing over the CD remasters, but I wonder. It should be fairly rare ...Thanks for that!! Lovely Susanne Freytag as well. Just a quick update to this conversation, @davros1. I did indeed check out Snobbery and Decay at the time of posting. Still undecided on it, though it was nice to listen to something from her prime post Propaganda. I came across this update a day or two ago though, which is worth keeping tabs on (though if I saw just the photo I would never have identified them as the same two):

'Here's to you, here's to me: a future aristocracy,' and all that. Of course, it sunk without trace! As for xPropaganda - I've heard a few rumblings too. There have been so many rumours about the band, I am very cautious, I must say - but wouldn't it be great to hear more stuff from Propaganda?! I listened to the '1234' album the other day - very underrated I think, especially the track 'Ministry of Fear'.

As with her smaller scale Propaganda revival that Claudia Brücken has been doing, whilst it was perhaps fine in a club setting, one only has to watch their peak 80's Rotterdam concert to appreciate the full impact of the original musicians. Key vocalists aside (brill though they were), that's where the musical talent and significant impact came from. It is kind of reminiscent of Human League nowadays where it is just Phil & the Girls with whoever they roped in on the synths for the booking (harsh but its kind of like that to me). It just sounds like the HL are thrashing it out these past few decades. I agree regards Ministry of Fear (I listened to that the other week too). That was the closest the second album came to the original lineup. Plus the first track was promising too. Its all down to the quality of new material and musicians they can get together, otherwise it may be another karaoke trip. Sometimes one likes something through memories of what was, rather than what is. If it does not wash with those who have no memory of the original then you have to accept they are past it. Hope for something interesting though.

Hope for something interesting though. It's a shame that The Human League, having brilliantly reinvented themselves after two originals left, rarely seemed to get their act together after the success of Dare. Did you ever hear their Credo album? I'm not sure I ever got to the end of it. They seem to be their own tribute band now, and they put on a great live show, but a new album that is actually good would be nice.
And that's the worry I have for xPropaganda. Without Michael Mertens and Ralf Dörper, I'm not sure how much weight any new ensemble might carry. It would be great to hear something with the power of Dr Mabuse again, but I'm not sure, forty years on, that that's the kind of thing they'd go for. Still, it's interesting to have them back. Here's to the future!

On a tangent, but I remember buying Dare at a car boot sale early 1992 (March), around the same time I bought Logopolis on VHS. I was secretly (!) getting back into Doctor Who again and watched it on the portable TV... The thing was, much of the synth mood matched the incidental music too. So 'I am the law' just seemed like and additional soundtrack. It fits so well. To this day I still associate the two with 1992 and as a similar evocation of what, to myself at the time seemed a long time previous. Ten years seemed a long time nostalgically when you were only 20!

Paddy, Roger and especially Peter Howell we're creating some amazing Human League/Visage/Jarre-style incidentals. Beautiful stuff - I hope the soundtracks are all released at some stage.
