]To the general public, Nick's distinct tones have become instriciable part of their conception of a Dalek I disagree, I really don't think the general public would notice, in any circumstance other than if the new voice artist messed it up. I'm not even sure I would notice unless I knew before hand, and I hear Nicks voice skills on a near daily basis.

I tried to veer this topic into talking about the replicability of Briggs, and I guess I succeeded. But I never did WISH that such would happen, as I think Nick does a good job of it. Still, he's become Da Man at BF, but over at the old Beeb he's just a guy with a big ring modulator in his pocket.

Yep, I agree, although I was fascinated by his location in the end of filming Capaldi family photo, and still think it suggest that he has either a far more important role than is obvious already or is held in very high regard by that team.

I'm not sure if he's just 'a guy'. He's friends with Russell T Davies and Steven Moffatt and from interviews, there was an incredible amount of respect for his performance - that carries certain weight. He's just as responsible as Russell T Davies is for bringing back the Daleks back to icon status. As long as Who is in the hands of people who love it, I think Nick's job is safe

Well, RTD and Moffatt are kind of not-there any more, right? I've not really heard much regarding Briggs and Chibnall... and thus came the question.

But they've had words, I'd imagine. I know it's all hypothetical, but I think it's pretty much a certantity Nick isn't going anywhere

Moffat denied the contractual obligation to use them in his column and I think RTD did at some point too though I dont remember if that was DWM or not. Sudden realization: we've already had a year without any Dalek appearances - 2016! [EDIT: just saw elgranto's post that reminded me of Friend From the Future. Does that count? It was essentially a commercial.] I think the reason we get them every year is no more complicated than the one Moffat have when asked - the Daleks are Doctor Who and it would be silly not to at least wink at them each year. We will have to see if Chibnall thinks the same.
