Having set themselves up for disappointment once are people really go to immediately do it again for next week?

Okay I know the teaser was a really bad tease but the few positives:
1. It looks gorgeous, the new camera work just looks more vibrant than previously
And
2. Actually I can’t think of a two so I guess we know that more is coming Thursday?

Rest assured, Thursday’s comic con footage WILL be shared online So a more substantial teaser (assuming it is, could be just another tease I suppose) will be broadcast to attendees of SDCC (who are pretty much guaranteed to watch anyway) and then released online, rather than broadcast during one of the biggest sporting events of the year watched mainly by the general audience the show needs to bring onboard? Seems a odd way round imo. Very true. The BBC are messing this up big time.

Doctor Who is doing their panel on the first day of the convention as one of the first things to be seen and not at a later date where it could get washed away with the other hype.

SDCC is geek mecca so of course they're getting something meatier to keep all the sites and blogs and streams rolling till the run up to the run up and keep Who a talking point in the online sphere. The world cup final is still a ways away from October, so playing a bigger hand now may mean said casuals forget or not be wowed as much later when the gears really turn in September. All Chibbs needed to do now, really, was let them know it exists at all.

I truly and honestly feel sorrow for you guys and galls. You deserved so much better than the rubbish teaser you got. I wouldn't be so dramatic about it, it was a fun little promo. If people are getting wound up about the lack of substantial footage then that's their own fault for reading too much into the press release. What exactly would you say made the teaser so "rubbish"? At the very least, some dialogue.

SDCC is preaching to the converted though. Even if they had still given us a proper trailer the hype would have not diminished at SDCC. & it would surely have been more interesting for tv audiences than seeing Bradley Walsh reading a comic, a bloke eating a fry up & a woman getting another pizza?

Preaching to the converted in the house, yes but also a worldwide media hub that has served as a kick-off for several franchises with global reach. Don't underestimate what SDCC means to genre programs & movies.
And post-tease, we don't know any more or less about series 11 than we did before. I'm still looking forward to seeing what we have in store with the 13th Doctor.

The show should be focusing beyond the 'geek mecca' audience. Everyone who pays attention to SDCC will likely be planning to watch anyway. As to just letting the audience know the shows exists, I'll use another person's words:

True but as i said giving BBC audiences, the channel on which the show debuts, a proper trailer would not have diminished the impact of what happens at SDCC because that also involves live appearances etc

I don't know that it matters. BBC & the production team clearly have a vision & a timetable for how they are going to introduce & market the 13th Doctor and company. It is a timetable that they seem to be sticking to. I'm sure the home network will end up featuring a lot of the new Doctor Who as things move closer. We've waiting this long, I don't know that waiting another few days or weeks is going to make a whole lot of difference.

As to just letting the audience know the shows exists, I'll use another person's words: Surely that "trip of a lifetime" one was a proper trailer though, and much closer to transmission than we are now? Apples and oranges. This is a teaser. I think that tweet is a little harsh comparing it. The trip of a lifetime trailer is still one of the best I've ever seen for Who. For anyone not a fan at the time: www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYIu7Qlqh4MIt made me fall in love with the new show before it aired. I still want a full version of the theme that was used for it (anyone know where to find it?) but there's nothing to say the actual trailer for Series 11 won't be as thrilling. It's not as though anyone will be put off by what they saw today - the full trailer will drop nearer the time and everyone will go nuts anyway.

I don't know what the fuss is; the title of the thread says 'First Glimpse of S11' and a glimpse is what we got...and as far as glimpses go, it was fine.
