the title of the thread says 'First Glimpse of S11' and a glimpse is what we got...and as far as glimpses go, it was fine. It wasn't a first glimpse of S11 though. It was a teaser specifically made for broadcast during the interval of the 2018 World Cup! ... and as far as teasers go, it was fine.

Well that was crap.......sorry but it was........who really wants to watch nothing, when they promise something.
I am ready for the torrent of abuse but are the bbc holding back on showing just how weak an impact Jodie Whittakers doctor is.......giving the companions more screen time it looked for the most part like a trailer for eastenders. She is still a terrible choice in my eyes, nice she maybe but charismatic she ain’t, in my eyes at least. If I hadn’t made up my mind not to watch it, stunts like this might just do it.

It did nothing to entice the fan that doesn't want a female Doctor. And why would they want to appeal to those people?

Don't you want them back? The 1.8 million that switch off didn't get anything to talk about.

Ehhh not a huge fan of a teaser that tells people nothing other than "did you know that Doctor Who is coming back?!"
Watched that "Trip of a Lifetime" thing for the first time just now - along with the Matt Smith/Karen Gillan promo - and yeah, they're both way better.
So, a little disappointing but promos aren't the show so I don't care that much.

Don't you want them back? The 1.8 million that switch off didn't get anything to talk about. A) Where did you pull that number from, B) How do you know they were all Jodie detractors or at least unsold? and C) Who needs to appeal to more than 1.8 million to survive or even grow agan.

You than had the female reveal, which many fans disagree with. There was nothing in that teaser to persuade them to tune in for series 11. If the series is to succeed, you'll have to get those 1.8 million back.

If the series is to succeed, you'll have to get those 1.8 million back. Except there's one rather large problem with all that. Even with the Season 9 ratings - the worst the show had in the UK since returning - it got renewed in January 2016 for two seasons, the longest re-comission the show has had. Those lost viewers aren't a good thing, obviously, but they're clearly not terminal or we wouldn't be getting Series 11 nor would we have had Series 10. The Beeb of course want to grow the audience again but I don't think we reasonably can expect to get back to, say, Season 4 ratings when outside of the World Cup and the Royal Wedding nothing else is these days. Getting someway back would be a victory. And you don't need that same audience to return - it still counts if you get a new one. And while it's not the home market, it really shouldn't just be written off that the latest episode aired was the biggest ratings BBC America have had in 2 years. Whatever ratings have been lost here, someone forgot to tell the colonials. It's all semantics just now from any side, the only proof will be in the pudding. When Series 11 premieres we'll see how many give it a chance. When it ends we'll know how many cared to stick it out. Till then we're all spitting in the rain.

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

Marvel do this sort of thing all the time: release a brief glimpse at what's coming then gradually tease out more information in the weeks and months leading up to the release of a film. I was disappointed that we didn't get a longer ad but I liked what I saw and it - to me - was a great mix of the domestic and otherworldly which is what Doctor Who has been about since it returned.

When Series 11 premieres we'll see how many give it a chance. When it ends we'll know how many cared to stick it out. Till then we're all spitting in the rain. you are right (you usually are), but its not the whole picture. doctor who is a brand (like the dead horse top gear)that the bbc sells around the world, its good business......of course they want to keep the train running, but the downside is we are in danger of losing the show we all love, and it changing to what sells and whats cheap....the gender change its a gimmick, to create headlines and buzz, more than to aid a show that has been losing scheduled tv views for a good few years. didn't I read that 40% of under 20's never watch bbc one or two with only 5% of that 40% using iplayer….. when you look at the current state of it, its not hard to see why. we saw a shift in the tone of the show over the last three seasons to a more adult orientated one. there's not enough of it annually for it to be many under 20's favourite show there's too much choice in genre TV these days. The BBC and showrunner have treated it and its viewers appallingly, shunting it round the schedule's, missing years, splitting seasons......all in the name to save money. and lets not forget that series 10 & 11 were given only slightly more money for both seasons than RTD had to make the 4 specials! I don't think we are in any danger of not seeing commissions for series 12, 13 and so on...….but how long till we just see commissions for only six episodes or just xmas specials. its stupid stunts like promising something then delivering nothing that does the show a disservice...…….how is keeping back a clips trailer to showcasing your product helping to grow your viewers ......when will it have a bigger audience......madness

Only 8 million watched the World Cup Final on BBC. Not what they were hoping for if England had made it through....but still way beyond the wildest dreams of Doctor Who ratings

Only 8 million watched the World Cup Final on BBC. Are you sure? Because that's the figure I read for the England vs Belgium play-off, not the final.

Only 8 million watched the World Cup Final on BBC. Average viewers were 8.57, with a peak of 10.26 million. So it is just slightly higher than you say. But it is interesting that you seem to be putting a negative spin on the amount of people who will have seen the Doctor Who trailer, which of course you didn't like.
I'm a little confused - you don't appear to listen to Big Finish, and you haven't liked Doctor Who for some years. I'm sure you're absolutely right in everything you say, but why keep coming back to a forum dedicated to Big Finish and Doctor Who?

I found this fab trailer on the 'Doctor Who' site - odd place to put it but I loved it! ... The BBC's new food show looks great!! Full English brekkie, pizza, fish 'n chips : Tasty Artery-Restricting Dishes In Sequence.
(I believe there's a 'Doctor Who' trailer around somewhere too, anyone got a link? Oh well, I'm happy to wait for October. )
