They gave out the new schedules at work and I'm really pissed off at the one I had to take. Perhaps a silly thing to be angry about given everything else going on, but I just know they screwed me over on purpose because the arseholes in middle management want me to either quit or lose my temper and get fired. I'm the best damn worker they have, but they don't care because I'm not a far right loon like they are. So wait they are giving you a schedule you don’t like because of your politics? I thought that there was an unwritten rule/etiquette that people generally don’t talk about their politics at work but I guess it’s different everywhere So supposedly there is, they'll have some bs written in their company policy for legal reason that they never actually follow through on, because in the deep south everyone thinks being an a loudmouth bigoted jackass is the norm and if you dare to have standers and report someone for being offensive, well then they can 'point you' for not having the 'right tone of voice' to customers... just because you didn't sound cheerful enough over the phone or some shit. Like they'll never come out and say it's your political beliefs that they are punishing you for. They'll make up some other excuse and hope you quit on your own so that they don't have to pay benefits. That's what living in a 'right to work' state boils down to. You have no rights as a worker. The end.

That would be the famous, "southern charm," I take it? I'm a bit further a North, I'd wager, but I'm very well-familiar with having to work with/for loudmouthed bigots. The "unwritten rule" is absolutely not to discuss politics, but for these people... their bigotry isn't political to them, it's just a fact of life. They don't think twice about sharing the most banal, casually cruel takes -- it's just normal to them. And in the absence of any pushback, they'll project their own opinions on to others, and assume you agree with them -- after all, they're just normal opinions. Back when my mutism was especially bad, I noticed it really didn't take very long for a certain type of person to just completely unmask around me and start saying the most abhorrent ****. Like... less than a week. You wouldn't believe it. Or maybe you would -- things certainly seem worse in that regard now than they were, say, 9 years ago. .... .... .... .... .... Anyway, I know I'm several years late, but I literally only just today realized the double-meaning of the Diary of River Song range. Gonna put it behind a spoiler gate just in case any of y'all are similarly oblivious and want to try puzzling it out now that you know it's there. {Spoiler} So, the range is titled, The Diary of River Song, or to put it another way, The Diary of River Song, or DRS -- the plural of DR, or doctors. Actually come to think of it, this may actually be a triple meaning, as the DRS could be referring to the multiple incarnations of The Doctor that River meets in most of her boxsets... but also the fact that every time she's opposite The Doctor, there are two DRS in the scene -- since River Song, presumably, would have a doctorate in archeology.

I've honestly got to say that seems a stretch on both counts and is prime "I love Humans, always seeing patterns in things that aren't there" from the 8th Doctor. River's initials are RS, the storytelling device used for her and The Doctor to sync-up is her diary. That the range is called The Diary Of River Song is, therefore, just the most obvious thing to call it since we're seeing the adventures on pages not on screen. But saying "DRS" is anything more than coincidence is a stretch, just a coincidence.

So I kind of went "F- it!" yesterday and went and bought a new PC last night. Just setting it up now. I'm both excited and nervous.
On the one hand, even the cheapest desktop was $350 dollars and I probably should be saving money right now
On the other hand my old PC died like months ago and while the laptop will do in a pinch, it doesn't have the storage space I need for larger projects
But on the other, other hand, I don't know if going the cheapest route really did me any favors on that front as I will still have to be conservative about certain programs/storage
However, getting the fancy gaming PC I originally wanted would have required making payments and if saving money for the next six months is to be a viable option then I need something that I could just pay in full and not break the bank.
Also I can now entertain people on the rare occasion have visitors, like today for instance.
I also already have a nice big monitor and my mother is bringing me a new office chair today.
And plus, it gave me an excuse to finally clean my desk.
So here's hoping I didn't just make a mistake

I am not a technical or computer person (at all) but from what I heard, you could always upgrade with a more fancy graphics card and so on when you have the money. Different from a laptop where things are not as easy. So I do not really think it is so much of a mistake?

That's what I'm hoping. If nothing else I do have external hard drives to store files at least.

"Due to suspicious activity, we need to secure your account and check your credentials..." Thanks Outlook, thanks... =_=
"You've reached the limit for account recovery requests, please try again in 24 hours" Yeah, because you're not sending me the (smegging) code by text, even though I'm giving you the last 4 numbers of my mobile number correctly, and so I have to do it by another email account?!?!
Edit: It's now logged me out of my phone, so I now can't check me emails at all... For (smeg)'s sake -!

Woke up today to the pained cries of a fawn. Probably less than a year old? I'd estimate its weight at maybe 30lbs (or around 15kg). The young deer had, somehow, for some reason, lodged itself in-between two slats of an iron fence, and was unable to extricate itself. I suspect it broke several ribs and one or both forelegs. There were also some injuries on its snout. The fawn would basically just lie there, draped over the fence's lower horizontal bar, unmoving, very occasionally flailing around and screaming before flopping back down. Spent some time trying to contact animal services -- services that were either closed for the day, or "didn't do deer," and so on, so it too, a while to find help. Naturally, it was the fire department -- they really are the only civil service out there you can reliably count on, huh? Unfortunately the fawn was dead by the time they arrived. So that's been my day. But of it is a desktop PC- they can be easily upgraded, can they not? I am not a technical or computer person (at all) but from what I heard, you could always upgrade with a more fancy graphics card and so on when you have the money. Different from a laptop where things are not as easy. So I do not really think it is so much of a mistake. Ya, desktop PCs are (generally) pretty easy to upgrade, but things can get a bit more complicated with prebuilt PCs. At the most superficial level, there's the problem of cable management -- some prebuilt are like rats' nests of loose cables that can be a real pain to untangle and get through to even access the parts. And not all parts are equally easy to replace -- like the motherboard or CPU. That said, the things that'll have the biggest impact on your performance for things like games and general media use are gonna be the GPU, RAM and storage, all of which are super-easy to swap out, so it's not really an issue. The biggest potential issue w/ upgrading in the future would be making sure the PSU has enough power to support anything new you're putting in there. Like I just built my current PC last year, and I definitely cheaped out on some components just because I knew how easy they'd be to upgrade later, when prices are (hopefully) much cheaper and the tech is (hopefully) much better. I only really splurged a bit on the CPU, mobo and cooling just 'cause I didn't want to bother with those components for as long as possible.

So I might end up going back to school after all. I've been on the phone most of this morning getting an information session scheduled for this weekend. I'm looking at pursuing a second bachelors in nursing, which is definitely still in the "stressful" category my last job was in, but it's one I know I'll find work in at the very least.
Now all I need to do is figure out how to get to the college while having enough money to afford a major surgery I'm ALSO trying to schedule. It's all very tough, but it's still a plan which is what I really need right now to give me some purpose and drive, so at the very least that's a bit of a mood booster.

Awe that's sad about the baby deer, and so true about the fire department unfortunately. I make it a point to have them in my contacts instead using 911.
I currently work in appliance repair so I feel pretty comfortable digging around wires to replace things. The hardest thing is taking the casing off as it's that 'office sleek' design that's not intended for owners to break into.

It's in a blue state with some good laws for LGBT+ people, which is much better than where I'm currently living!

Really looking forward to the concert tonight- I am going to see Blackbriar live. They are a Dutch Symphonic Metal band and they make some beautiful music. Love their latest album.
Tomorrow I will be traveling to Hannover to attend a veterinary conference for next week. Sit back, relax and listen to some interesting talks, that sort of thing.
And although the weather all week (it was my week off) was atrocious, storm, wind, cold and rain (isn't it supposed to be summer?), I had a good holiday week, I got lots of adults things done (like buying new tyres) and took part in the scuba dive training of our club at the pool (during torrential rain, but we were under water anyways). Yesterday, my brake lights of my car broke down, but luckily, one member of my dive club noticed and he helped me fix it, so that was pretty nice. Honestly, I cannot complain, really.
However, not looking forward to going back to work on Thursday. I am pretty sure that things have NOT miraculously improved in the past 10 days. What joy.

Good news along with a little disappointment:
Evan has been accepted to a small art school in LA. Even though they are not an official "teach out" school for UArts they are accepting ALL of his credits and he will graduate on time. It's a very good move for him since LA is where his industry is and he can maybe get a leg up with some contacts before he even graduates. His girlfriend and another friend of theirs have been accepted as well with EXTREMELY generous financial aid packages, so he has friends there. And we have some close family there too, so he won't be moving across the country alone. We are just waiting for his financial aid award to make his final acceptance. So this is all very good for him, and the stress of not knowing where he will be will be over this week.
However, he will be across the country so it's just a touch bittersweet for this mama. I knew he would be going out there eventually, but I wasn't expecting it so soon. However, it is definitely the right choice, so good for him. The real disappointment is that I will most likely have to miss LI Who. That is killing me. It's one of my favorite weekends of the year and I am supposed to be interviewing Jason Haigh-Ellery. And I'm going to miss seeing a lot of friends and the most guests they've had at that con in years. But I am almost certain that it's the weekend that Evan will be moving in to the dorms. I could just send him there with his friends and let my nephew help him move in, but in my heart I know I can't do that. I'm waiting until he accepts his position before I make any hasty decisions, but I'm fairly certain that I will be flying to CA. Oh well. There will always be next year.

So long story short. Finally have my 2nd person to assist me, he has done his 1 week of training and 1 week out in the "trenches" with me. I am teaching him slowly but surely so he doesn't get overlwhelmed and quits like someone did a few years ago.
Funnily enough I sekret squirrel found out that my original Manager applied for the role (she has retired around March last year after 27 years in her role..so she know it all definitely). She asked if she could do WFH and they declined her! I had been pushing the point for months I need a physical person in the office with me, as there are sensitive matter documents that need to be printed off daily and as per Policy there is no printing when you are WFH.
The new guy also lives literally down the street from me. I can walk to his place in about 20-25 minutes.
I also have officially stopped wearing the moonboot from when I Wrecked my ankle/foot on my wet front lawn 3 1/2 weeks ago. It's still swollen you can clearly still see it- I can now walk unaided, I just still won't be hopping on that foot for a few more weeks.

The black and blueness has 99.99% gone. The ankle is still swollen, I am still putting ice packs all around my foot/ankle 4-6 times a day, and doing gentle stretches.
