Almost ordered the limited edition today, but the per order shipping charge put me off. I think I am going to wait until March. That way I will order the rest of the monthly range that I don't have (I think the last 13) and this at the same time. If this is sold out, then I'll just get the standard edition download. Either way that will probably be the end for me of getting physical product from Big Finish.

Must admit I was slightly taken aback at how they’ve gone down the manic route with Simms Master but I suppose it makes sense considering he will be paired up with the War Master.

Someone needs to update the Decayed Master's Tardis wiki with his new official designation: The Jeremy.

I don’t think that trailer is great. A lot of clips that don’t follow on and I think it doesn’t really sell the many different incarnations they’ve got in this.
I wouldn’t have guessed that was John Simm if I didn’t figure it out by process of elimination. I’m surprised they’ve gone with the manic take too, but it’s not just that; he doesn’t really sound much like he did on TV to my ears!

It must be hard to feature such a large cast of leading characters in a short trailer, but this seemed strangely cluttered without selling the many versions of the Master - as shallacatop says. I didn't recognise Simm either, nor did I notice Eric Roberts in there.
There have been several less-than-stellar trailers for releases that turned out to be pretty brilliant, however, so I'm still excited to hear this.

It’s been a strangely promoted release. I still have absolutely no idea what it’s about, except for the Master pairings and the Terror of the Master audiobook. And if I can’t really discern the different incarnations in the trailer, then I don’t really feel any excitement.
Shame to have stumbled for such a big release.

They all sort of blended together and with the exception of bit at the end was dull.

Hopefully they out a video trailer because that would help me associate the voices with each incarnation. I see from the cast list they're doing Kamelion as the Ainley Master again. Why does it always need to be Kamelion as him?

I quite liked the trailer. I’m enjoying not really knowing what to expect from this release, the Vortex preview hinting that the Master has won and in doing so unleashed another power so it’s not up to all his selves to either stop it or just let it rampage was enough for me.
That said, I can’t figure out who says the variant of “You’re a beautiful woman” line.

Wow that trailer was boring Just jumbled a heap of clips together that don’t even match I have to admit From what I heard Jon Culshaw’s ainley master isn’t as good from the TLV short trip sadly wonder if this was recorded first?

Just gave the trailer another listen. It’s still not the best choice of clips in my opinion but I do think Simms Master comes across a lot better. I know many of us were surprised that they were going for the more manic Series 3 Master but I think we’ll probably get some more quiet moments with him. Especially when playing opposite the War Master.
In any case, I feel like we’re in good hands with James Goss as a writer. This is the writer who brought us the fantastic The Sky Man after all.

Just gave the trailer another listen. This is the writer who brought us the fantastic The Sky Man after all. He also wrote the doctor who lockdown special: doctors assemble One of the worst multi doctor stories i have ever seen It was also a 13 minute literally every Doctor have a quick laugh to entertain people in Lockdown special free Youtube videk, not a 3 hour 50th anniversary story that has room to breathe. This is the writer who also brought R&J, one of the most beautiful stories that combined larger than life characters. Or Expiry Dating. And again: wrote one of the highest praised Master tales. And this is a Master release. So even on those terms you're complaining about a Multi-Doctor story (let alone a 13 minute freely produced one) when they're seemingly different kettles.

I once took special notice of a writer for a truly bad episode and resolved to think twice before ever listening to any of their stories again. Then I took notice of another writer for an especially good episode and thought to prioritize more of their episodes in the future.
Both writers were the same person.
Suffice it to say that most writers cannot be consistently good. Most people are not John Dorney! They'll have really good stories, and real stinkers, too. And it's not always going to be their fault: sometimes they just won't have enough time or editing passes; sometimes they'll be stuck with a lousy premise that no one could spin into gold (which, I suspect, was the case with that first story I alluded to); sometimes they'll simply commit the selves to an idea that isn't very good, but will devote so much time to it that when they realize there's a better angle, it's too late. It's important to realize that BF's audio dramas, much like television, are a very restrictive medium and the writers must work within several constraints.
Which is all a roundabout way of saying that you shouldn't place too much stock in a writer's portfolio. They can and often will surprise you, both positively and negatively. The lesson I've learned is a simple one: approach everything with an open mind. If nothing else, I think we can all agree that Big Finish maintains a relatively high standard of quality, and even their worst stories--of which there are few--are still worth listening to.

I predict for this we won’t hear Milo Parker’s evil Master laugh until the very end of the piece where he is inevitably returned to Gallifrey.
At least that’s how I would do it.

Here's an idea: maybe the young master is brought into Masterful at the moment of the "test," so rather than being driven mad by the untempered schism, he's instead driven to madness by meeting all of his future incarnations.
