So just looking at the latest page of the updates thread, and how I would improve it. For starters there’s the reminder of the end of a sale, yes that’s an update. The poster has said do in his post, then in the same post there is the whole tweet with picture from BF. Personally what I would do differently is to remove the whole tweet and I’d just have a link TO THE tweet. It’s the constant posting of the whole tweet with images that I personally find annoying. The post has told me the sale is ending, I don’t need to see the tweet as well. Just include the link as proof and leave it up to me if I want to check the source of the news. The tweets take f o r e v e r to load and clog up the page. Thanks. For what it’s worth, you can’t just link to the tweet - pasting the link automatically turns it into the embed. That’s a bit pants.

Ironically, this has been one of the most entertaining discussions on this forum for years!

mark687 - I can only speak for myself, but certainly this week with less tweets my phone has loaded up the forum a lot quicker. It is a shame the conversation turned the way it did as it shouldn't have become personal, but Tui's opening post needed to be said.

Agreed, a much better balance on the tweets. Edit: mark687 I forgot to say thank you as well. It’s very much appreciated that you listened, despite how personal some people made it.

I have to agree, this is much improved. Much better reading of the threads, especially on mobile devices. I also apologize if this became a bit heated, and I admit I started the topic just because of my general mood of annoyance. But looking at it now, just the ease of access, the shorter loading times using my slow internet access here in the woods... It is better. Thank you all!

For what it’s worth, you can’t just link to the tweet - pasting the link automatically turns it into the embed. That’s a bit pants. I wonder if it would be worth quickly putting the tweet through tinyurl.com and posting the output of that - that way tweets get linked and don't clog up the timeline. Just to see if it works: New review of Torchwood: Among Us 1 - tinyurl.com/cwnmfs94

Yep, would agree that it is much better. Threads are easier to navigate and load faster.
One thing I would say is some updates are being posted with instructions to find the link in the OP. I think that’s a bit off; if you’re going to make the update with good intentions, then link to the relevant article or product listing. Otherwise it feels a bit hollow and pointless.

Probably don’t even need to specify it’s the BF Product Page; save those fingers typing!

Couldn’t think of a more appropriate thread, but thought it was worth sharing. Amongst the ongoing limits imposed on Twitter, they have also prevented the ability to view tweets without an account. I think that should pretty much eliminate the need to use embedded tweets on the forum, as presumably they were shared for those that didn’t have accounts in the first place. techcrunch.com/2023/06/30/twitter-now-requires-an-account-to-view-tweets/amp/

Since this thread has been revived, could I just say that the updates thread is much improved in the last few weeks and much less cluttered with non-news. This has definitely been a worthwhile thread

Well, it has, obviously. But for people not on Twitter [like me] it's a godsend... if I wanted to read Twitter posts (tweets) I'd have a Twitter account. I chose not to be on that platform so I don't particularly want to read through hundreds of random tweets as I travel through cyberspace.
There are only so many hours in a day!

Perhaps it's time to bump this thread? It seems to me that Twitter reposts are on the increase again.
